David Hogg: We Need To Recognize ‘Indigenous Mass Shootings’ Conducted by the American Government

RUSH TRANSCRIPT HAYES For ░░░░░░░░ you said something very ░░░░░░░░ there about the sort ░░░░░░░░ gun violence and what ░░░░░░░░ daily reality of it ░░░░░░░░ And I think there ░░░░░░░░ a little bit of ░░░░░░░░ mismatch The things that ░░░░░░░░ covered are the most ░░░░░░░░ spectacular in the most ░░░░░░░░ of morbid sense shootings ░░░░░░░░ what happened at your ░░░░░░░░ There is a grinding ░░░░░░░░ violence that happens across ░░░░░░░░ and where you have ░░░░░░░░ that you are referring ░░░░░░░░ that have been working ░░░░░░░░ years There is also ░░░░░░░░ that happen which are ░░░░░░░░ leading cause of gun ░░░░░░░░ How do you think ░░░░░░░░ opening the aperture Because ░░░░░░░░ ends up happening is ░░░░░░░░ focus is on the ░░░░░░░░ mass shootings and people ░░░░░░░░ well that person wouldn ░░░░░░░░ have passed a background ░░░░░░░░ There is a broader ░░░░░░░░ HOGG Yeah I think ░░░░░░░░ broader conversation that we ░░░░░░░░ have to realize is ░░░░░░░░ for us to be ░░░░░░░░ in this movement we ░░░░░░░░ to create we don ░░░░░░░░ just need to change ░░░░░░░░ The only thing that ░░░░░░░░ really has changed Congress ░░░░░░░░ changed our country is ░░░░░░░░ our culture changes And ░░░░░░░░ think with that we ░░░░░░░░ to actually be talking ░░░░░░░░ why there are these ░░░░░░░░ for people to believe ░░░░░░░░ violence is a resolution ░░░░░░░░ our problems why people ░░░░░░░░ that it is more ░░░░░░░░ to pick up a ░░░░░░░░ because you re afraid ░░░░░░░░ what you don t ░░░░░░░░ than it is to ░░░░░░░░ explore what you don ░░░░░░░░ know and have the ░░░░░░░░ to actually address that ░░░░░░░░ I would personally argue ░░░░░░░░ peace is patriotic right ░░░░░░░░ your fellow Americans is ░░░░░░░░ And I think I ░░░░░░░░ what s important to ░░░░░░░░ as well is that ░░░░░░░░ plans that we ve ░░░░░░░░ not everyone agrees with ░░░░░░░░ but I think we ░░░░░░░░ to ask ourselves what ░░░░░░░░ the plan you know ░░░░░░░░ we only pass universal ░░░░░░░░ checks great But that ░░░░░░░░ putting a band aid ░░░░░░░░ this massive dam that ░░░░░░░░ about to break right ░░░░░░░░ we need to rebuild ░░░░░░░░ dam HAYES Right It ░░░░░░░░ interesting you say that ░░░░░░░░ sometimes that very argument ░░░░░░░░ used by opponents of ░░░░░░░░ safety measures and not ░░░░░░░░ but incorrectly saying this ░░░░░░░░ you want will only ░░░░░░░░ a little bit of ░░░░░░░░ And it s true ░░░░░░░░ have a ton of ░░░░░░░░ We have a culture ░░░░░░░░ is a very violent ░░░░░░░░ in America How do ░░░░░░░░ and the movement think ░░░░░░░░ that HOGG I think ░░░░░░░░ comes down to reckoning ░░░░░░░░ our history and our ░░░░░░░░ of white supremacy in ░░░░░░░░ United States and the ░░░░░░░░ that we live in ░░░░░░░░ post genocidal society oftentimes ░░░░░░░░ was orchestrated by the ░░░░░░░░ States government and that ░░░░░░░░ we want toshootings we ░░░░░░░░ to recognize the massive ░░░░░░░░ of mass shootings that ░░░░░░░░ initiated by the United ░░░░░░░░ government I think back ░░░░░░░░ the battle of wounded ░░░░░░░░ and predominantly men women ░░░░░░░░ children that were slaughter ░░░░░░░░ I the United States ░░░░░░░░ back in the 19th ░░░░░░░░ and how that s ░░░░░░░░ discussed as a mass ░░░░░░░░ and that s wrong ░░░░░░░░ those people were not ░░░░░░░░ and we were stealing ░░░░░░░░ land I think it ░░░░░░░░ down to reckoning with ░░░░░░░░ tough history and realizing ░░░░░░░░ it s okay if ░░░░░░░░ recognize the actual history ░░░░░░░░ the United States it ░░░░░░░░ okay to hate that ░░░░░░░░ that much of this ░░░░░░░░ has been founded on ░░░░░░░░ much of the oppression ░░░░░░░░ this country was founded ░░░░░░░░ That doesn t mean ░░░░░░░░ hate America because it ░░░░░░░░ you love your fellow ░░░░░░░░ so much that you ░░░░░░░░ t want to repeat ░░░░░░░░ same mistakes we ve ░░░░░░░░ in the past.”
