Dayton Mayor: Trump’s ‘All Talk and No Action’ on Gun Control

MITCHELL When you joined ░░░░░░░░ Trump when he toured ░░░░░░░░ earlier this month your ░░░░░░░░ him the people of ░░░░░░░░ are hungry for action ░░░░░░░░ know you re a ░░░░░░░░ of action The President ░░░░░░░░ your hand and responded ░░░░░░░░ ll like what you ░░░░░░░░ Have you liked what ░░░░░░░░ ve seen He s ░░░░░░░░ off on background checks ░░░░░░░░ WHALEY No I m ░░░░░░░░ really surprised I wrote ░░░░░░░░ down because I wanted ░░░░░░░░ remember what he said ░░░░░░░░ I m not surprised ░░░░░░░░ said before I met ░░░░░░░░ and during the time ░░░░░░░░ met him that I ░░░░░░░░ t think he knows ░░░░░░░░ he believes around gun ░░░░░░░░ He does that regularly ░░░░░░░░ people will forget He ░░░░░░░░ that in Parkland He ░░░░░░░░ done that with every ░░░░░░░░ mass tragedy shooting that ░░░░░░░░ got any sort of ░░░░░░░░ says he s going ░░░░░░░░ do something and then ░░░░░░░░ becomes all talk and ░░░░░░░░ action MITCHELL I know ░░░░░░░░ ve been working with ░░░░░░░░ Brown and other elected ░░░░░░░░ What is your message ░░░░░░░░ the senators to Mitch ░░░░░░░░ to the House members ░░░░░░░░ they haven t passed ░░░░░░░░ ban against assault weapons ░░░░░░░░ they return coming back ░░░░░░░░ week there s a ░░░░░░░░ short window for them ░░░░░░░░ tackle this WHALEY Right ░░░░░░░░ know I m happy ░░░░░░░░ be joined with over ░░░░░░░░ mayors of bipartisan effort ░░░░░░░░ the country calling on ░░░░░░░░ to take the vote ░░░░░░░░ we want is an ░░░░░░░░ or down vote We ░░░░░░░░ that the senators will ░░░░░░░░ the right thing on ░░░░░░░░ background checks and closing ░░░░░░░░ of these loopholes All ░░░░░░░░ has to do is ░░░░░░░░ the vote and let ░░░░░░░░ country see where everybody ░░░░░░░░ You know 94 percent ░░░░░░░░ Americans support background checks ░░░░░░░░ Ohio 87 percent of ░░░░░░░░ that own guns support ░░░░░░░░ checks This is something ░░░░░░░░ we ve never seen ░░░░░░░░ don t think in ░░░░░░░░ long time seen such ░░░░░░░░ acceptance for the folks ░░░░░░░░ Washington can t get ░░░░░░░░ on it I think ░░░░░░░░ s what makes people ░░░░░░░░ frustrated with government in ░░░░░░░░ When everybody agree why ░░░░░░░░ it have to be ░░░░░░░░ hard And yet somehow ░░░░░░░░ McConnell in Washington D ░░░░░░░░ that s what they ░░░░░░░░ in MITCHELL And you ░░░░░░░░ 20 000 people I ░░░░░░░░ with Dave Chappelle hosting ░░░░░░░░ benefit concert over the ░░░░░░░░ The people of Ohio ░░░░░░░░ speaking loud and clear ░░░░░░░░ Yes I mean I ░░░░░░░░ been really amazed by ░░░░░░░░ outpouring of support from ░░░░░░░░ only our community but ░░░░░░░░ across the state You ░░░░░░░░ Dayton is a town ░░░░░░░░ a lot of people ░░░░░░░░ in and out of ░░░░░░░░ city because of the ░░░░░░░░ force space and because ░░░░░░░░ our universities so we ░░░░░░░░ a lot more ties ░░░░░░░░ one would suspect Everyone ░░░░░░░░ has been through this ░░░░░░░░ has spent a dinner ░░░░░░░░ evening a walk through ░░░░░░░░ Oregon district I think ░░░░░░░░ s why it s ░░░░░░░░ connected to so many ░░░░░░░░ across the country We ░░░░░░░░ super grateful for Dave ░░░░░░░░ s generous gift on ░░░░░░░░ where anywhere from 20 ░░░░░░░░ 30 000 people showed ░░░░░░░░ to enjoy themselves to ░░░░░░░░ to the victim funds ░░░░░░░░ really to celebrate their ░░░░░░░░ Dave lives about 20 ░░░░░░░░ from Dayton He actually ░░░░░░░░ last time I talked ░░░░░░░░ him before the event ░░░░░░░░ actually in the Oregon ░░░░░░░░ He s well aware ░░░░░░░░ this area It meant ░░░░░░░░ lot to the community ░░░░░░░░ he took the time ░░░░░░░░ spent his generosity for ░░░░░░░░ city MITCHELL Mayor Nan ░░░░░░░░ Thank you so much ░░░░░░░░ Dayton Ohio and for ░░░░░░░░ you re doing across ░░░░░░░░ country with your voice ░░░░░░░░ you.”
