PORTER Hi I m ░░░░░░░░ Katie Porter Today I ░░░░░░░░ to speak directly to ░░░░░░░░ people of California s ░░░░░░░░ District There s been ░░░░░░░░ lot of noise in ░░░░░░░░ C and the press ░░░░░░░░ impeachment so I wanted ░░░░░░░░ share my thoughts with ░░░░░░░░ I ve spent hours ░░░░░░░░ and analyzing the Constitution ░░░░░░░░ written by reading scholars ░░░░░░░░ the 200 year history ░░░░░░░░ our democracy and its ░░░░░░░░ of checks and balances ░░░░░░░░ weeks of study deliberation ░░░░░░░░ conversations with Orange County ░░░░░░░░ I ve decided to ░░░░░░░░ an impeachment investigation of ░░░░░░░░ President I have not ░░░░░░░░ to this easily I ░░░░░░░░ to this decision after ░░░░░░░░ deliberation and I know ░░░░░░░░ what this means for ░░░░░░░░ democracy I didn t ░░░░░░░░ to Congress to impeach ░░░░░░░░ President I ran to ░░░░░░░░ my decades of consumer ░░░░░░░░ to help Orange County ░░░░░░░░ I ran to fight ░░░░░░░░ against Big Pharma and ░░░░░░░░ prescription drug pricing to ░░░░░░░░ families with the crushing ░░░░░░░░ of childcare and to ░░░░░░░░ on the affordable housing ░░░░░░░░ hurting our community And ░░░░░░░░ will continue to do ░░░░░░░░ things and much more ░░░░░░░░ when faced with a ░░░░░░░░ of this magnitude I ░░░░░░░░ with a clean conscience ░░░░░░░░ my duty to defend ░░░░░░░░ Constitution I can t ░░░░░░░░ to be committed to ░░░░░░░░ out corruption and putting ░░░░░░░░ over politics and then ░░░░░░░░ apply those same principles ░░░░░░░░ standards in all of ░░░░░░░░ work I do I ░░░░░░░░ reached a point of ░░░░░░░░ in my decision Congress ░░░░░░░░ continue the work of ░░░░░░░░ Counsel Mueller In his ░░░░░░░░ and public remarks Director ░░░░░░░░ emphasized that under current ░░░░░░░░ he did not have ░░░░░░░░ option to indict the ░░░░░░░░ But despite the limits ░░░░░░░░ his authority the Special ░░░░░░░░ was clear that he ░░░░░░░░ not exonerate the President ░░░░░░░░ he presented extensive evidence ░░░░░░░░ obstruction of justice that ░░░░░░░░ continued investigation by Congress ░░░░░░░░ administration has refused to ░░░░░░░░ the rule of law ░░░░░░░░ have ignored multiple subpoenas ░░░░░░░░ ve directed current and ░░░░░░░░ high ranking officials to ░░░░░░░░ summons to testify and ░░░░░░░░ President has continued his ░░░░░░░░ to mistrust of our ░░░░░░░░ enforcement contempt for our ░░░░░░░░ and false information about ░░░░░░░░ law Director Mueller s ░░░░░░░░ and basic uncontested facts ░░░░░░░░ question is not whether ░░░░░░░░ not a crisis is ░░░░░░░░ our midst but rather ░░░░░░░░ we choose to fight ░░░░░░░░ it I ve been ░░░░░░░░ congresswoman for five months ░░░░░░░░ and serving you and ░░░░░░░░ country is one of ░░░░░░░░ greatest honors of my ░░░░░░░░ But I came to ░░░░░░░░ position as an attorney ░░░░░░░░ a law professor a ░░░░░░░░ to three amazing kids ░░░░░░░░ as a patriot And ░░░░░░░░ will continue to draw ░░░░░░░░ that and on our ░░░░░░░░ of this country and ░░░░░░░░ principles as we navigate ░░░░░░░░ trying time As always ░░░░░░░░ welcome feedback on this ░░░░░░░░ whether you agree with ░░░░░░░░ or not and will ░░░░░░░░ you updated moving forward ░░░░░░░░ will continue to be ░░░░░░░░ transparent with you even ░░░░░░░░ especially when it s ░░░░░░░░ Today I have a ░░░░░░░░ heart and a deep ░░░░░░░░ about the state of ░░░░░░░░ nation But I have ░░░░░░░░ in our Constitution and ░░░░░░░░ tools that it gives ░░░░░░░░ to meet this challenge ░░░░░░░░ on.”
