JACKSON I m joined ░░░░░░░░ here in Tokio by ░░░░░░░░ Karni of The New ░░░░░░░░ Times Sue Mi Terry ░░░░░░░░ joining us back home ░░░░░░░░ the east coast And ░░░░░░░░ me start with you ░░░░░░░░ when you listen to ░░░░░░░░ the president had to ░░░░░░░░ to Prime Minister Abe ░░░░░░░░ I know the folks ░░░░░░░░ the United States are ░░░░░░░░ waking up to this ░░░░░░░░ the idea that President ░░░░░░░░ would say that North ░░░░░░░░ s weapons testing is ░░░░░░░░ a violation of U ░░░░░░░░ Security Council resolutions what ░░░░░░░░ of message do you ░░░░░░░░ it sends not just ░░░░░░░░ Prime Minister Abe but ░░░░░░░░ rest of the world ░░░░░░░░ Talking to me first ░░░░░░░░ first of all I ░░░░░░░░ this is JACKSON Yes ░░░░░░░░ TERRY this is absolutely ░░░░░░░░ point of digression here ░░░░░░░░ though Prime Minister Abe ░░░░░░░░ to show that he ░░░░░░░░ closely aligned with President ░░░░░░░░ on all issues when ░░░░░░░░ comes to North Korea ░░░░░░░░ re not Prime Minister ░░░░░░░░ might be all smiles ░░░░░░░░ he knows short range ░░░░░░░░ missiles are a direct ░░░░░░░░ to Japan So the ░░░░░░░░ the fact that President ░░░░░░░░ said this is not ░░░░░░░░ threat to Japan or ░░░░░░░░ Korea this is a ░░░░░░░░ They re not aligned ░░░░░░░░ this on issue On ░░░░░░░░ Korea I think Prime ░░░░░░░░ Abe was aligned with ░░░░░░░░ Trump in 2017 when ░░░░░░░░ were pursuing maximum pressure ░░░░░░░░ right now Prime Minister ░░░░░░░░ is very wary of ░░░░░░░░ engagement policy this dialogue ░░░░░░░░ leaves North Korea nuclear ░░░░░░░░ and missile program intact ░░░░░░░░ all these sort of ░░░░░░░░ missile tests are a ░░░░░░░░ threat And let me ░░░░░░░░ you I think North ░░░░░░░░ will escalate It will ░░░░░░░░ a controlled escalation I ░░░░░░░░ North Korea would not ░░░░░░░░ to maybe intercontinental ballistic ░░░░░░░░ test or a nuclear ░░░░░░░░ until the end of ░░░░░░░░ year because they gave ░░░░░░░░ timeline but believe me ░░░░░░░░ re going to continually ░░░░░░░░ up this pressure and ░░░░░░░░ fly one over Japan ░░░░░░░░ a medium range missile ░░░░░░░░ re going to fly ░░░░░░░░ Japan maybe by the ░░░░░░░░ So I think this ░░░░░░░░ a point of a ░░░░░░░░ between allies JACKSON Given ░░░░░░░░ then do you think ░░░░░░░░ Trump is getting played ░░░░░░░░ Kim Jong Un TERRY ░░░░░░░░ now I ll say ░░░░░░░░ because they re at ░░░░░░░░ impasse North Korea is ░░░░░░░░ willing to get back ░░░░░░░░ the negotiation they are ░░░░░░░░ even talking to each ░░░░░░░░ we re reaching out ░░░░░░░░ North Korea is insisting ░░░░░░░░ we need to get ░░░░░░░░ relief with the United ░░░░░░░░ is not ready to ░░░░░░░░ So again what I ░░░░░░░░ what I predict is ░░░░░░░░ we give North Koreans ░░░░░░░░ they want which is ░░░░░░░░ big sanctions relief they ░░░░░░░░ going to dial up ░░░░░░░░ pressure And President Trump ░░░░░░░░ know maybe he has ░░░░░░░░ until the end of ░░░░░░░░ year but the fact ░░░░░░░░ he says that short ░░░░░░░░ ballistic missile test is ░░░░░░░░ a threat to Japan ░░░░░░░░ is a problem that ░░░░░░░░ a problem for our ░░░░░░░░
