RUSH TRANSCRIPT Welcome back ░░░░░░░░ m Stephanie Ruhle As ░░░░░░░░ 2020 field heats up ░░░░░░░░ is a democratic duo ░░░░░░░░ could jump into the ░░░░░░░░ next According to Axios ░░░░░░░░ Biden s advisers are ░░░░░░░░ naming a vice presidential ░░░░░░░░ straight out of the ░░░░░░░░ with Stacey Abrams as ░░░░░░░░ current front runner There ░░░░░░░░ been a lot of ░░░░░░░░ about what s next ░░░░░░░░ the popular Georgia Democrat ░░░░░░░░ she narrowly lost her ░░░░░░░░ for Georgia governor last ░░░░░░░░ And according to The ░░░░░░░░ journal the two met ░░░░░░░░ week in Washington to ░░░░░░░░ her political future Joining ░░░░░░░░ now president and CEO ░░░░░░░░ Voto Latino and an ░░░░░░░░ contributor and a friend ░░░░░░░░ mine Maria Teresa Kumar ░░░░░░░░ political reporter for Washington ░░░░░░░░ and moderator of Washington ░░░░░░░░ on PBS Robert Costa ░░░░░░░░ with us Arthur brooks ░░░░░░░░ of the American enterprise ░░░░░░░░ and author of this ░░░░░░░░ book that you must ░░░░░░░░ Love your enemies David ░░░░░░░░ s still with us ░░░░░░░░ to you first The ░░░░░░░░ and cons of this ░░░░░░░░ of move because earlier ░░░░░░░░ morning I was looking ░░░░░░░░ the Time magazine cover ░░░░░░░░ article about Alexandria Ocasio ░░░░░░░░ and how she represents ░░░░░░░░ next generation If Joe ░░░░░░░░ walks in with a ░░░░░░░░ Abrams does it solve ░░░░░░░░ criticism he gets about ░░░░░░░░ too old school and ░░░░░░░░ Well this has been ░░░░░░░░ talk for a long ░░░░░░░░ that if Biden were ░░░░░░░░ jump in one of ░░░░░░░░ things that he can ░░░░░░░░ is really appease a ░░░░░░░░ of the Wisconsin Minnesota ░░░░░░░░ older white voter men ░░░░░░░░ voted for Obama then ░░░░░░░░ for Trump but then ░░░░░░░░ running mate should be ░░░░░░░░ that basically helps usher ░░░░░░░░ into the future someone ░░░░░░░░ a Stacey Abrams but ░░░░░░░░ also talked about Julian ░░░░░░░░ Kamala Harris I think ░░░░░░░░ big challenge is how ░░░░░░░░ are rolling this out ░░░░░░░░ they should really caution ░░░░░░░░ Stacey Abrams she owns ░░░░░░░░ future So this idea ░░░░░░░░ they re going to ░░░░░░░░ here in a tent ░░░░░░░░ would just be careful ░░░░░░░░ how they frame it ░░░░░░░░ make sure it is ░░░░░░░░ that is something that ░░░░░░░░ wants because she s ░░░░░░░░ a fantastic job jumping ░░░░░░░░ the national stage and ░░░░░░░░ the hearts and imaginations ░░░░░░░░ the American people And ░░░░░░░░ minds Arthur we saw ░░░░░░░░ Cruz in a similar ░░░░░░░░ in 2016 naming Carly ░░░░░░░░ as vp in sort ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ a last ditch effort ░░░░░░░░ get some enthusiasm behind ░░░░░░░░ campaign It didn t ░░░░░░░░ for Ted Cruz Could ░░░░░░░░ work here And Ted ░░░░░░░░ obviously That was a ░░░░░░░░ ditch effort for Ted ░░░░░░░░ This is a first ░░░░░░░░ effort for Joe Biden ░░░░░░░░ The whole idea is ░░░░░░░░ I m older I ░░░░░░░░ a man This is ░░░░░░░░ party that s actually ░░░░░░░░ for somebody who s ░░░░░░░░ an older man necessarily ░░░░░░░░ get the nomination On ░░░░░░░░ other hand he s ░░░░░░░░ popular And so you ░░░░░░░░ I think on the ░░░░░░░░ of it it seems ░░░░░░░░ Roberto NBC News we ░░░░░░░░ been reporting that one ░░░░░░░░ the nation s biggest ░░░░░░░░ super PACS planning a ░░░░░░░░ million effort specifically aimed ░░░░░░░░ white working class voters ░░░░░░░░ Wisconsin Michigan Pennsylvania and ░░░░░░░░ Florida So it appears ░░░░░░░░ that they learned some ░░░░░░░░ from 2016 Does the ░░░░░░░░ House think these places ░░░░░░░░ vulnerable the White House ░░░░░░░░ the Democrats in this ░░░░░░░░ of Biden abrams as ░░░░░░░░ that s a strategic ░░░░░░░░ for them because they ░░░░░░░░ the super PAC is ░░░░░░░░ at the industrial midwest ░░░░░░░░ s also an area ░░░░░░░░ vice President Biden has ░░░░░░░░ had some strength and ░░░░░░░░ connections but they also ░░░░░░░░ at the 2018 midterms ░░░░░░░░ they see Stacey Abrams ░░░░░░░░ Georgia you see in ░░░░░░░░ Beto O rourke s ░░░░░░░░ Andrew Gillum in Florida ░░░░░░░░ Jones won a Senate ░░░░░░░░ in Alabama not too ░░░░░░░░ ago and they say ░░░░░░░░ Democrats could be coming ░░░░░░░░ even in the south ░░░░░░░░ if you had Biden ░░░░░░░░ that would be a ░░░░░░░░ real challenge for Republicans ░░░░░░░░ both the midwest and ░░░░░░░░ south David there is ░░░░░░░░ for President Trump in ░░░░░░░░ lot of these areas ░░░░░░░░ it s enthusiasm for ░░░░░░░░ President Trump is but ░░░░░░░░ hasn t delivered in ░░░░░░░░ ways especially if you ░░░░░░░░ about specifically jobs for ░░░░░░░░ working class voters Remember ░░░░░░░░ was telling people in ░░░░░░░░ don t sell your ░░░░░░░░ and now you know ░░░░░░░░ of those plants specifically ░░░░░░░░ lordstown are closing Is ░░░░░░░░ a good strategy for ░░░░░░░░ to go in or ░░░░░░░░ the president have these ░░░░░░░░ on lock Look you ░░░░░░░░ want to take any ░░░░░░░░ for granted meaning you ░░░░░░░░ t want to write ░░░░░░░░ off and say we ░░░░░░░░ t need them especially ░░░░░░░░ competitive states Wisconsin Pennsylvania ░░░░░░░░ these are competitive states ░░░░░░░░ s a competitive part ░░░░░░░░ the country And if ░░░░░░░░ look at how 2016 ░░░░░░░░ what the president accomplished ░░░░░░░░ pretty remarkable No Republican ░░░░░░░░ won those states in ░░░░░░░░ 30 40 years but ░░░░░░░░ were very narrowly decided ░░░░░░░░ I think Democrats would ░░░░░░░░ foolish to decide now ░░░░░░░░ re going to pivot ░░░░░░░░ a sun belt strategy ░░░░░░░░ we re gaining and ░░░░░░░░ re getting there but ░░░░░░░░ re not quite there ░░░░░░░░ t forget Andrew Gillum ░░░░░░░░ Abrams Beto O rourke ░░░░░░░░ came close They were ░░░░░░░░ remarkable campaigns They all ░░░░░░░░ And where did Democrats ░░░░░░░░ pretty well They did ░░░░░░░░ well in Ohio where ░░░░░░░░ held a Senate seat ░░░░░░░░ where they held a ░░░░░░░░ seat Pennsylvania where they ░░░░░░░░ a Senate seat also ░░░░░░░░ well in governors races ░░░░░░░░ I m leaving out ░░░░░░░░ another important state What ░░░░░░░░ need to do is ░░░░░░░░ of decide and this ░░░░░░░░ what the primary s ░░░░░░░░ is sort out what ░░░░░░░░ re all about and ░░░░░░░░ exactly they believe I ░░░░░░░░ one thing that the ░░░░░░░░ would be smart to ░░░░░░░░ that are running for ░░░░░░░░ it s not so ░░░░░░░░ that you don t ░░░░░░░░ and satisfy your Progressive ░░░░░░░░ if you re a ░░░░░░░░ but you don t ░░░░░░░░ to look like you ░░░░░░░░ a follower And so ░░░░░░░░ Ocasio Cortez for instance ░░░░░░░░ a lot of ambition ░░░░░░░░ a lot of ambitious ░░░░░░░░ They shouldn t all ░░░░░░░░ on the bandwagon to ░░░░░░░░ with everything she says ░░░░░░░░ need to be proactive ░░░░░░░░ say actually I don ░░░░░░░░ agree with that but ░░░░░░░░ is what I agree ░░░░░░░░ Here s how I ░░░░░░░░ going lead Ultimately it ░░░░░░░░ voters and it s ░░░░░░░░ of the things that ░░░░░░░░ Bernie Sanders so compelling ░░░░░░░░ 2016 because he was ░░░░░░░░ people I m not ░░░░░░░░ follower And even if ░░░░░░░░ think I m left ░░░░░░░░ center I m leading ░░░░░░░░ offering something I think ░░░░░░░░ s what s usually ░░░░░░░░ in a presidential winner ░░░░░░░░ you did hear Beto ░░░░░░░░ the spirit the idea ░░░░░░░░ need for a green ░░░░░░░░ deal makes it s ░░░░░░░░ details that he doesn ░░░░░░░░ yet know or support ░░░░░░░░ you see some level ░░░░░░░░ inclusion but not necessarily ░░░░░░░░ Maria I want to ░░░░░░░░ a clip of former ░░░░░░░░ governor John hickenlooper last ░░░░░░░░ in a town hall ░░░░░░░░ s getting a whole ░░░░░░░░ of attention Governor some ░░░░░░░░ your male competitors have ░░░░░░░░ to put a woman ░░░░░░░░ the ticket Yes or ░░░░░░░░ would you do the ░░░░░░░░ Well again of course ░░░░░░░░ I think that we ░░░░░░░░ be well I ll ░░░░░░░░ you another question How ░░░░░░░░ But I m asking ░░░░░░░░ questions I know But ░░░░░░░░ come we re not ░░░░░░░░ more often the women ░░░░░░░░ you be willing to ░░░░░░░░ a man on the ░░░░░░░░ Okay Maria I know ░░░░░░░░ is getting slayed for ░░░░░░░░ but I watched it ░░░░░░░░ To me that was ░░░░░░░░ sort of like a ░░░░░░░░ dad joke awkward moment ░░░░░░░░ He said of course ░░░░░░░░ I actually took it ░░░░░░░░ in his terrible landing ░░░░░░░░ a joke that didn ░░░░░░░░ work almost paying homage ░░░░░░░░ the fact that so ░░░░░░░░ women just won in ░░░░░░░░ midterms and so many ░░░░░░░░ on the democratic side ░░░░░░░░ putting their hat in ░░░░░░░░ ring for the 2020 ░░░░░░░░ but that s not ░░░░░░░░ it s being read ░░░░░░░░ single candidate that is ░░░░░░░░ male candidate is considering ░░░░░░░░ woman are they going ░░░░░░░░ put on the ticket ░░░░░░░░ was basically saying of ░░░░░░░░ because it s a ░░░░░░░░ that they re all ░░░░░░░░ behind closed doors And ░░░░░░░░ agree with you Stephanie ░░░░░░░░ think they are trying ░░░░░░░░ make something out of ░░░░░░░░ and that s unfair ░░░░░░░░ him I think that ░░░░░░░░ way he actually reversed ░░░░░░░░ question said throwing it ░░░░░░░░ at her why aren ░░░░░░░░ we asking the women ░░░░░░░░ Because it s true ░░░░░░░░ re not asking the ░░░░░░░░ that So I think ░░░░░░░░ s nothing But I ░░░░░░░░ think that the trouble ░░░░░░░░ folks are going to ░░░░░░░░ in this election because ░░░░░░░░ s so many candidates ░░░░░░░░ that everybody s going ░░░░░░░░ want to have that ░░░░░░░░ moment And what the ░░░░░░░░ Party really needs is ░░░░░░░░ moment to reset to ░░░░░░░░ and talk about the ░░░░░░░░ issues that are going ░░░░░░░░ galvanize the American public ░░░░░░░░ come and vote And ░░░░░░░░ s not necessarily the ░░░░░░░░ that are on the ░░░░░░░░ know on the extreme ░░░░░░░░ know that are on ░░░░░░░░ extreme Progressive side that ░░░░░░░░ going to vote Is ░░░░░░░░ the independent voter that ░░░░░░░░ can capture Is it ░░░░░░░░ the moderate Republicans that ░░░░░░░░ t like where the ░░░░░░░░ s going under this ░░░░░░░░ How are they going ░░░░░░░░ bring them under the ░░░░░░░░ And I would actually ░░░░░░░░ us to think that ░░░░░░░░ is a new south ░░░░░░░░ the reason that Georgia ░░░░░░░░ Florida and Texas were ░░░░░░░░ for grabs is because ░░░░░░░░ is a new population ░░░░░░░░ not just the large ░░░░░░░░ Latino population but you ░░░░░░░░ industry coming And with ░░░░░░░░ you bring in money ░░░░░░░░ bring in young professionals ░░░░░░░░ bring families And that ░░░░░░░░ the new south that ░░░░░░░░ all of a sudden ░░░░░░░░ contested If we can ░░░░░░░░ with each other Florida ░░░░░░░░ and Georgia should never ░░░░░░░░ even been at arm ░░░░░░░░ reach for Democrats this ░░░░░░░░ midterm Then we are ░░░░░░░░ agreement I heard that ░░░░░░░░ thought it was a ░░░░░░░░ tip to all the ░░░░░░░░ in charge from a ░░░░░░░░ who like I don ░░░░░░░░ know probably does a ░░░░░░░░ on the dance floor ░░░░░░░░ next love your enemies ░░░░░░░░ friend Arthur brooks here ░░░░░░░░ literally written the book ░░░░░░░░ it Stay with us ░░░░░░░░ is what he says ░░░░░░░░ the key to not ░░░░░░░░ into a culture of ░░░░░░░░ and ultimately avoiding a ░░░░░░░░ divisive country You know ░░░░░░░░ important I think this ░░░░░░░░ We need to put ░░░░░░░░ first You don t ░░░░░░░░ to miss this conversation.
