Ocasio-Cortez at SXSW Likens America Today to ‘Garbage’

“so you mentioned he ░░░░░░░░ one of the things ░░░░░░░░ eyes is that you ░░░░░░░░ what if something is ░░░░░░░░ irredeemable then we shouldn ░░░░░░░░ be having conversations about ░░░░░░░░ it you know the ░░░░░░░░ is of Americans I ░░░░░░░░ that for the first ░░░░░░░░ a majority of Americans ░░░░░░░░ Americans feel favorably about ░░░░░░░░ and capitalism and increasingly ░░░░░░░░ are these kind of ░░░░░░░░ critiques of of capitalism ░░░░░░░░ you feel similarly that ░░░░░░░░ that the our our ░░░░░░░░ of government is your ░░░░░░░░ irredeemable I mean you ░░░░░░░░ you said in the ░░░░░░░░ you know you don ░░░░░░░░ think it s at ░░░░░░░░ cold have a country ░░░░░░░░ billionaires where there were ░░░░░░░░ many people who were ░░░░░░░░ know struggling to get ░░░░░░░░ there but basic health ░░░░░░░░ needs met you know ░░░░░░░░ what point does that ░░░░░░░░ into a broader systemic ░░░░░░░░ of the country and ░░░░░░░░ critique of what kind ░░░░░░░░ leaders we should be ░░░░░░░░ going forward Ocasio Cortez ░░░░░░░░ don t think that ░░░░░░░░ government is irredeemable and ░░░░░░░░ I did I would ░░░░░░░░ run for office GRAY ░░░░░░░░ the capitalism in particular ░░░░░░░░ Cortez because it could ░░░░░░░░ different so I think ░░░░░░░░ the tough part about ░░░░░░░░ about like is capitalism ░░░░░░░░ at track is that ░░░░░░░░ it s hard to ░░░░░░░░ these conversations I think ░░░░░░░░ a society because we ░░░░░░░░ have different ideas of ░░░░░░░░ just in the public ░░░░░░░░ there isn t there ░░░░░░░░ different ideas of what ░░░░░░░░ capitalism mean what to ░░░░░░░░ units that track but ░░░░░░░░ me when I think ░░░░░░░░ what those definitions are ░░░░░░░░ isn t to me ░░░░░░░░ it s an ideology ░░░░░░░░ capital it puts capital ░░░░░░░░ most important thing is ░░░░░░░░ concentration of capital and ░░░░░░░░ means that we seek ░░░░░░░░ prioritize profit and the ░░░░░░░░ of money above all ░░░░░░░░ and we seek it ░░░░░░░░ any human and environmental ░░░░░░░░ that is what that ░░░░░░░░ and to me that ░░░░░░░░ is not sustainable and ░░░░░░░░ be redeemed but when ░░░░░░░░ talk about ideas for ░░░░░░░░ like democratic socialism it ░░░░░░░░ putting democracy and society ░░░░░░░░ instead of capital first ░░░░░░░░ doesn t mean that ░░░░░░░░ put other things last ░░░░░░░░ doesn t mean that ░░░░░░░░ the actual concept of ░░░░░░░░ as a society is ░░░░░░░░ be abolished or or ░░░░░░░░ like that but it ░░░░░░░░ it s a question ░░░░░░░░ our priorities and I ░░░░░░░░ now I think we ░░░░░░░░ reckoning with are the ░░░░░░░░ of putting profit above ░░░░░░░░ else in society because ░░░░░░░░ we re what it ░░░░░░░░ is people getting paid ░░░░░░░░ than what it takes ░░░░░░░░ live what it means ░░░░░░░░ people that need insulin ░░░░░░░░ because they can t ░░░░░░░░ it even though us ░░░░░░░░ a society can afford ░░░░░░░░ and because it and ░░░░░░░░ because insulin was originally ░░░░░░░░ free because the idea ░░░░░░░░ of having to pay ░░░░░░░░ Lynn seem crazy even ░░░░░░░░ people who discovered it ░░░░░░░░ so for me it ░░░░░░░░ a question of priorities ░░░░░░░░ right now I don ░░░░░░░░ think our priorities are ░░░░░░░░ but there s also ░░░░░░░░ in the public imagination ░░░░░░░░ lot of fear mongering ░░░░░░░░ what democratic socialism means ░░░░░░░░ it s like your ░░░░░░░░ day you know that ░░░░░░░░ can like take over ░░░░░░░░ private sector and in ░░░░░░░░ in my opinion are ░░░░░░░░ those two things need ░░░░░░░░ need to be separate ░░░░░░░░ what were actually experiencing ░░░░░░░░ now is the opposite ░░░░░░░░ are experiencing is you ░░░░░░░░ just as there is ░░░░░░░░ this fear mongering that ░░░░░░░░ is going to take ░░░░░░░░ every corporation and government ░░░░░░░░ going to take over ░░░░░░░░ business or every form ░░░░░░░░ production we should be ░░░░░░░░ right now because corporations ░░░░░░░░ taken over government.”
