RUSH TRANSCRIPT Those are ░░░░░░░░ different baskets If these ░░░░░░░░ not lead to a ░░░░░░░░ end to the Trump ░░░░░░░░ then it doesn t ░░░░░░░░ Watergate Michael I know ░░░░░░░░ qulir deep skepticism about ░░░░░░░░ conspiracy with Russia I ░░░░░░░░ wondering what you make ░░░░░░░░ this idea Do you ░░░░░░░░ it s just a ░░░░░░░░ soon to know And ░░░░░░░░ are you on this ░░░░░░░░ agree I think literally ░░░░░░░░ jury s out on ░░░░░░░░ Right It s not ░░░░░░░░ yet In Watergate if ░░░░░░░░ look at most of ░░░░░░░░ attorneys I talk toss ░░░░░░░░ count heads They count ░░░░░░░░ They count guilty pleas ░░░░░░░░ Watergate we had 69 ░░░░░░░░ 48 people and 20 ░░░░░░░░ found guilty In the ░░░░░░░░ investigation so far only ░░░░░░░░ people charged Only 7 ░░░░░░░░ found guilty I also ░░░░░░░░ t like in the ░░░░░░░░ piece the whole idea ░░░░░░░░ they were laying out ░░░░░░░░ that there was a ░░░░░░░░ power involved That s ░░░░░░░░ not true There s ░░░░░░░░ charges of collusion no ░░░░░░░░ pleas on collusion And ░░░░░░░░ the end you know ░░░░░░░░ have some Russians who ░░░░░░░░ indicted but we re ░░░░░░░░ going to see them ░░░░░░░░ court They re never ░░░░░░░░ to darken a courtroom ░░░░░░░░ And in fact those ░░░░░░░░ really don t intersect ░░░░░░░░ the campaign at all ░░░░░░░░ s almost like window ░░░░░░░░ on this prosecutor s ░░░░░░░░ gambit And I think ░░░░░░░░ the end we re ░░░░░░░░ to look back at ░░░░░░░░ thing It s not ░░░░░░░░ to be nearly as ░░░░░░░░ as we think it ░░░░░░░░ now I think we ░░░░░░░░ going to look back ░░░░░░░░ it in some ways ░░░░░░░░ a political charade trying ░░░░░░░░ weave Russia into the ░░░░░░░░ campaign Surely people think ░░░░░░░░ some things wrong Look ░░░░░░░░ what Paul did wrong ░░░░░░░░ are real crimes I ░░░░░░░░ t think history s ░░░░░░░░ to look back on ░░░░░░░░ and judge the major ░░░░░░░░ who exaggerated this very ░░░░░░░░ Right But there was ░░░░░░░░ Russian attorney who met ░░░░░░░░ the Trump folks and ░░░░░░░░ to them that Russia ░░░░░░░░ Trump to win And ░░░░░░░░ happened after that And ░░░░░░░░ s been charged on ░░░░░░░░ in that at all ░░░░░░░░ And of course we ░░░░░░░░ not done yet And ░░░░░░░░ s report although it ░░░░░░░░ rumored that it s ░░░░░░░░ to be coming out ░░░░░░░░ isn t out yet ░░░░░░░░ really I believe we ░░░░░░░░ have to sit back ░░░░░░░░ wait But there s ░░░░░░░░ so much pantomime fake ░░░░░░░░ travesty parody sham masquerade ░░░░░░░░ this whole thing I ░░░░░░░░ t think it s ░░░░░░░░ to measure up to ░░░░░░░░ in the end Kirsten ░░░░░░░░ you think Michael s ░░░░░░░░ that history s going ░░░░░░░░ look back at this ░░░░░░░░ say what was the ░░░░░░░░ about Well there s ░░░░░░░░ way to know Of ░░░░░░░░ if it ends up ░░░░░░░░ what a lot of ░░░░░░░░ think it is then ░░░░░░░░ is going to be ░░░░░░░░ bigger than Watergate Because ░░░░░░░░ was about a break ░░░░░░░░ into the Democratic National ░░░░░░░░ and then the obstruction ░░░░░░░░ justice on the part ░░░░░░░░ the president to cover ░░░░░░░░ up If what has ░░░░░░░░ alleged here happened we ░░░░░░░░ talking about a foreign ░░░░░░░░ interfering in an American ░░░░░░░░ and our current president ░░░░░░░░ his associates having been ░░░░░░░░ or involved or colluding ░░░░░░░░ some way with that ░░░░░░░░ that would be a ░░░░░░░░ bigger deal than a ░░░░░░░░ in into the Democratic ░░░░░░░░ Committee headquarters Even though ░░░░░░░░ was terrible So I ░░░░░░░░ we don t know ░░░░░░░░ you know everything everything ░░░░░░░░ out and we find ░░░░░░░░ you know what basically ░░░░░░░░ has found out Kirsten ░░░░░░░░ there is no conspiracy ░░░░░░░░ proven or ever there ░░░░░░░░ the potential campaign finance ░░░░░░░░ the hush money payments ░░░░░░░░ that a real scandal ░░░░░░░░ look at that and ░░░░░░░░ look campaign finance violations ░░░░░░░░ all the time Obviously ░░░░░░░░ necessarily involving porn stars ░░░░░░░░ it s usually a ░░░░░░░░ penalty Well the difference ░░░░░░░░ this campaign finance violation ░░░░░░░░ other ones is that ░░░░░░░░ was intentional It wasn ░░░░░░░░ an accident And that ░░░░░░░░ a felony So it ░░░░░░░░ not quite the same ░░░░░░░░ as just you know ░░░░░░░░ just missing something The ░░░░░░░░ way I can make ░░░░░░░░ mistake on my taxes ░░░░░░░░ something and it s ░░░░░░░░ intentional This clearly was ░░░░░░░░ They were clearly trying ░░░░░░░░ do something here All ░░░░░░░░ said do I personally ░░░░░░░░ that that rises to ░░░░░░░░ level of a Watergate ░░░░░░░░ I don t I ░░░░░░░░ it s a problem ░░░░░░░░ think it s a ░░░░░░░░ if the president committed ░░░░░░░░ felony on his way ░░░░░░░░ winning the White House ░░░░░░░░ I don t no ░░░░░░░░ wouldn t rise to ░░░░░░░░ level of a Watergate ░░░░░░░░ you know certainly the ░░░░░░░░ accusations You know Tim ░░░░░░░░ other many other But ░░░░░░░░ big difference from Watergate ░░░░░░░░ president Nixon didn t ░░░░░░░░ Twitter There wasn t ░░░░░░░░ news on 24 hours ░░░░░░░░ day with multiple different ░░░░░░░░ know perspectives It wasn ░░░░░░░░ until the Nixon library ░░░░░░░░ releasing tapes we started ░░░░░░░░ that Nixon was unraveling ░░░░░░░░ crying getting Henry Kissinger ░░░░░░░░ pray with him You ░░░░░░░░ if Twitter had been ░░░░░░░░ and Nixon was prone ░░░░░░░░ use Twitter it would ░░░░░░░░ been I don t ░░░░░░░░ if it would have ░░░░░░░░ worse or seemed I ░░░░░░░░ t know how it ░░░░░░░░ have affected it But ░░░░░░░░ fact we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ real time the president ░░░░░░░░ thoughts is fascinating And ░░░░░░░░ re actually witnessing a ░░░░░░░░ social experiment One of ░░░░░░░░ big differences between Donald ░░░░░░░░ and Richard Nixon is ░░░░░░░░ Richard Nixon observed the ░░░░░░░░ of the presidency He ░░░░░░░░ not a disruptor of ░░░░░░░░ So the distance between ░░░░░░░░ real Nixon and the ░░░░░░░░ Nixon was huge And ░░░░░░░░ the American public felt ░░░░░░░░ deeply betrayed by him ░░░░░░░░ they figured out who ░░░░░░░░ was Donald Trump has ░░░░░░░░ pretended to embrace the ░░░░░░░░ of the and so ░░░░░░░░ distance between what could ░░░░░░░░ the behind the scenes ░░░░░░░░ and the tweeter Trump ░░░░░░░░ the Twitter Trump might ░░░░░░░░ actually be that great ░░░░░░░░ might lead to less ░░░░░░░░ a sense of betrayal ░░░░░░░░ that sense of betrayal ░░░░░░░░ 1974 helped spell the ░░░░░░░░ for the Nixon administration ░░░░░░░░ following the norms you ░░░░░░░░ argue is one of ░░░░░░░░ reasons People voted for ░░░░░░░░ They didn t want ░░░░░░░░ norms to be followed ░░░░░░░░ Caputo thank you Kirsten ░░░░░░░░ Tim Naftali fascinating Is ░░░░░░░░ an alarming new global
