BERMAN So you just ░░░░░░░░ the President a nationalist ░░░░░░░░ you know who else ░░░░░░░░ him a nationalist Donald ░░░░░░░░ Trump CARDIN He did ░░░░░░░░ BERMAN That s right ░░░░░░░░ a rally last night ░░░░░░░░ said I m a ░░░░░░░░ So what s wrong ░░░░░░░░ that CARDIN There is ░░░░░░░░ wrong for rooting for ░░░░░░░░ I root for America ░░░░░░░░ believe in our country ░░░░░░░░ the question is do ░░░░░░░░ believe America is of ░░░░░░░░ certain type of person ░░░░░░░░ that the diversity issues ░░░░░░░░ something that is foreign ░░░░░░░░ our country I don ░░░░░░░░ I believe diversity is ░░░░░░░░ strength I m a ░░░░░░░░ of immigrant families My ░░░░░░░░ came to this country ░░░░░░░░ Americans have come to ░░░░░░░░ country as immigrants We ░░░░░░░░ a diverse nation that ░░░░░░░░ our strength And when ░░░░░░░░ President refers to nationalism ░░░░░░░░ provokes an anti immigrant ░░░░░░░░ anti majority view that ░░░░░░░░ nation is of a ░░░░░░░░ demographic rather than being ░░░░░░░░ diverse nation we are ░░░░░░░░ You are suggesting there ░░░░░░░░ some kind of dog ░░░░░░░░ there CARDIN It is ░░░░░░░░ does provoke hate activities ░░░░░░░░ does provoke discrimination We ░░░░░░░░ seen a rise in ░░░░░░░░ in America based upon ░░░░░░░░ based upon religion All ░░░░░░░░ is provoked by the ░░░░░░░░ we use when we ░░░░░░░░ America needs to be ░░░░░░░░ a certain demographic BERMAN ░░░░░░░░ President s approval rating ░░░░░░░░ on the rise universally ░░░░░░░░ almost every poll not ░░░░░░░░ the same amount but ░░░░░░░░ up Are things turning ░░░░░░░░ the wrong direction for ░░░░░░░░ and what is the ░░░░░░░░ you think Democrats should ░░░░░░░░ in the next two ░░░░░░░░ CARDIN Well we ll ░░░░░░░░ out in two weeks ░░░░░░░░ I think Americans recognize ░░░░░░░░ it s important to ░░░░░░░░ an independent Congress that ░░░░░░░░ as a check and ░░░░░░░░ with the President They ░░░░░░░░ the midterms as an ░░░░░░░░ to provide that check ░░░░░░░░ balance to our system ░░░░░░░░ m very optimistic that ░░░░░░░░ blue wave will bring ░░░░░░░░ change to Congress and ░░░░░░░░ a greater voice to ░░░░░░░░ independent Congress BERMAN How ░░░░░░░░ you explain the rise ░░░░░░░░ the President s approval ░░░░░░░░ CARDIN Well you know ░░░░░░░░ president s approval ratings ░░░░░░░░ consistently been below 50 ░░░░░░░░ He was elected without ░░░░░░░░ popular vote of this ░░░░░░░░ I think quite frankly ░░░░░░░░ the President s views ░░░░░░░░ way he operates most ░░░░░░░░ disagree with I can ░░░░░░░░ you as I go ░░░░░░░░ Maryland and this country ░░░░░░░░ see an energy level ░░░░░░░░ has been motivated by ░░░░░░░░ President to try to ░░░░░░░░ something about the way ░░░░░░░░ acts So I do ░░░░░░░░ you re going to ░░░░░░░░ a blue wave BERMAN ░░░░░░░░ Ben Cardin of Maryland ░░░░░░░░ so much for being ░░░░░░░░ us Two weeks to ░░░░░░░░ Appreciate it, sir.”
