Hogg on 2018: ‘Unacceptable’ Only 18 Percent of 18-24-Year Olds Registered to Vote

>> Joining me now Stoneman ░░░░░░░░ high school students David ░░░░░░░░ and Cameron Caskey We ░░░░░░░░ from the president shortly ░░░░░░░░ the shooting at the ░░░░░░░░ school obviously he struck ░░░░░░░░ very different tone than ░░░░░░░░ did today Back then ░░░░░░░░ talked to you you ░░░░░░░░ he was heading in ░░░░░░░░ right direction when it ░░░░░░░░ to gun control What ░░░░░░░░ you think today Well ░░░░░░░░ know he was saying ░░░░░░░░ things that implied that ░░░░░░░░ was stepping forward into ░░░░░░░░ right direction for gun ░░░░░░░░ in this country and ░░░░░░░░ he had a meeting ░░░░░░░░ some NRA officials a ░░░░░░░░ meeting and afterwards he ░░░░░░░░ and claimed that the ░░░░░░░░ Amendment was under siege ░░░░░░░░ he was going to ░░░░░░░░ it So as to ░░░░░░░░ or not the NRA ░░░░░░░░ changed his views that ░░░░░░░░ kind of up to ░░░░░░░░ but I will tell ░░░░░░░░ that is hopefully the ░░░░░░░░ Russian funded group he ░░░░░░░░ met with And I ░░░░░░░░ like to say I ░░░░░░░░ it really shows what ░░░░░░░░ s doing right now ░░░░░░░░ where his heart and ░░░░░░░░ are and that s ░░░░░░░░ the exact same place ░░░░░░░░ of the interesting things ░░░░░░░░ thought Trump brought it ░░░░░░░░ we don t talk ░░░░░░░░ mental health I didn ░░░░░░░░ tell in one of ░░░░░░░░ recent spending bills they ░░░░░░░░ they cut mental health ░░░░░░░░ for schools by over ░░░░░░░░ million that doesn t ░░░░░░░░ like improving the mental ░░░░░░░░ system for schools to ░░░░░░░░ Cameron when the president ░░░░░░░░ in that meeting with ░░░░░░░░ and Republicans he castigated ░░░░░░░░ Republicans saying you re ░░░░░░░░ of the NRA Do ░░░░░░░░ believe today he showed ░░░░░░░░ he is scared of ░░░░░░░░ NRA I think he ░░░░░░░░ very interested in the ░░░░░░░░ that the NRA will ░░░░░░░░ him and that the ░░░░░░░░ in turn gets from ░░░░░░░░ manufacturers You know the ░░░░░░░░ the NRA used to ░░░░░░░░ itself as being an ░░░░░░░░ Joe coalition of Americans ░░░░░░░░ are trying to protect ░░░░░░░░ Second Amendment rights and ░░░░░░░░ you will see that ░░░░░░░░ are getting a lot ░░░░░░░░ kickbacks from gun manufacturers ░░░░░░░░ I don t necessarily ░░░░░░░░ Trump is scared of ░░░░░░░░ NRA I think Trump ░░░░░░░░ very I think people ░░░░░░░░ the situation that would ░░░░░░░░ scared would be the ░░░░░░░░ Theories this is the ░░░░░░░░ time they had the ░░░░░░░░ vice president come out ░░░░░░░░ the annual convention for ░░░░░░░░ NRA What they are ░░░░░░░░ is they are worried ░░░░░░░░ the support we ve ░░░░░░░░ getting and the support ░░░░░░░░ ll have in mid ░░░░░░░░ Like it or not ░░░░░░░░ don t care if ░░░░░░░░ are exact or Republican ░░░░░░░░ you are sported with ░░░░░░░░ NRA you don t ░░░░░░░░ with kids you stand ░░░░░░░░ the gun manufacturers and ░░░░░░░░ making money off this ░░░░░░░░ and tragedy that per ░░░░░░░░ 80s itself David that ░░░░░░░░ where your focus is ░░░░░░░░ There was a lot ░░░░░░░░ concern I think among ░░░░░░░░ of gun safety gun ░░░░░░░░ and people who are ░░░░░░░░ the March that after ░░░░░░░░ March that sort of ░░░░░░░░ would wane For yoekz ░░░░░░░░ on mid terms Is ░░░░░░░░ right Exactly And right ░░░░░░░░ what we are trying ░░░░░░░░ do we have the ░░░░░░░░ goal of getting 90 ░░░░░░░░ high schoolers registered to ░░░░░░░░ by June I think ░░░░░░░░ s something we can ░░░░░░░░ There is over 26 ░░░░░░░░ high schools across perk ░░░░░░░░ need every one of ░░░░░░░░ to sign up through ░░░░░░░░ count to create their ░░░░░░░░ voter registration vote to ░░░░░░░░ kids get out and ░░░░░░░░ regardless of opinions I ░░░░░░░░ one thing we can ░░░░░░░░ on both sides of ░░░░░░░░ ace sell voter participation ░░░░░░░░ now 18 of 18 ░░░░░░░░ 24 year olds participate ░░░░░░░░ mid terms and that ░░░░░░░░ unacceptable The thing is ░░░░░░░░ is just simply about ░░░░░░░░ your civic duty and ░░░░░░░░ And we can get ░░░░░░░░ lot of people registered ░░░░░░░░ vote But they don ░░░░░░░░ show up at polls ░░░░░░░░ they need to Another ░░░░░░░░ we are focusing on ░░░░░░░░ making it accessible and ░░░░░░░░ and making sure people ░░░░░░░░ educated with the vote ░░░░░░░░ they use the resources ░░░░░░░░ easily access to know ░░░░░░░░ they re voting for ░░░░░░░░ everything the candidate is ░░░░░░░░ and have an educated ░░░░░░░░ effective vote Well Cameron ░░░░░░░░ David hogg I appreciate ░░░░░░░░ time ton Thanks for ░░░░░░░░ with us Thank you ░░░░░░░░ much.
