Wallace Matt Dowd let ░░░░░░░░ bring you in on ░░░░░░░░ and let me just ░░░░░░░░ back the curtain Our ░░░░░░░░ conversation about your next ░░░░░░░░ on this show was ░░░░░░░░ a piece you wrote ░░░░░░░░ trauma and now you ░░░░░░░░ in the middle of ░░░░░░░░ state you love with ░░░░░░░░ you love suffering this ░░░░░░░░ heartbreak Where are your ░░░░░░░░ today DOWD Well I ░░░░░░░░ glad to be here ░░░░░░░░ talk about this And ░░░░░░░░ m I mean I ░░░░░░░░ just like to put ░░░░░░░░ context to follow up ░░░░░░░░ what Ryan said I ░░░░░░░░ this is incredibly tragic ░░░░░░░░ sad All of us ░░░░░░░░ this who visited this ░░░░░░░░ spent time on the ░░░░░░░░ had you know I ░░░░░░░░ spent a lot of ░░░░░░░░ in Center Point I ░░░░░░░░ a cabin on the ░░░░░░░░ and understand the flood ░░░░░░░░ that exists there But ░░░░░░░░ camps and especially a ░░░░░░░░ like Camp Mystic just ░░░░░░░░ people understand this is ░░░░░░░░ tradition that everyone in ░░░░░░░░ central Texas Houston Dallas ░░░░░░░░ of of these kids ░░░░░░░░ time boys and girls ░░░░░░░░ these camps And this ░░░░░░░░ specifically I ve talked ░░░░░░░░ people whose grandmothers went ░░░░░░░░ this camp whose mothers ░░░░░░░░ to this camp and ░░░░░░░░ their daughters have gone ░░░░░░░░ this camp And so ░░░░░░░░ is a tradition that ░░░░░░░░ in Texas it s ░░░░░░░░ been completely shattered in ░░░░░░░░ very traumatic way in ░░░░░░░░ I so disagree with ░░░░░░░░ idea of like oh ░░░░░░░░ s no way to ░░░░░░░░ this thing was going ░░░░░░░░ come There was no ░░░░░░░░ to know you know ░░░░░░░░ was going to happen ░░░░░░░░ was as Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ it s a 100 ░░░░░░░░ event How would we ░░░░░░░░ This is flash flood ░░░░░░░░ As the senator who ░░░░░░░░ m sure we ll ░░░░░░░░ about this is something ░░░░░░░░ we know about that ░░░░░░░░ should have been prepared ░░░░░░░░ that we should have ░░░░░░░░ doing something about for ░░░░░░░░ and decades and decades ░░░░░░░░ and at the state ░░░░░░░░ and at the federal ░░░░░░░░ The fact that we ░░░░░░░░ t and now we ░░░░░░░░ sort of sort of ░░░░░░░░ with this immense tragedy ░░░░░░░░ so and so incredibly ░░░░░░░░ in this because this ░░░░░░░░ in my view the ░░░░░░░░ of this and the ░░░░░░░░ of the tragedy of ░░░░░░░░ was totally preventable because ░░░░░░░░ ve known on the ░░░░░░░░ River and that river ░░░░░░░░ this kind of thing ░░░░░░░░ happen Maybe not as ░░░░░░░░ as what happened and ░░░░░░░░ s tragic it did ░░░░░░░░ this is this is ░░░░░░░░ every 100 years This ░░░░░░░░ every few years where ░░░░░░░░ flood events happen And ░░░░░░░░ fact that people weren ░░░░░░░░ prepared that all levels ░░░░░░░░ government in this is ░░░░░░░░ so, so incredibly disturbing.”
