CNN’s Jason Carroll Recounts Getting Detained by LAPD: ‘It Is Something that I Wasn’t Expecting’

COATES Jason what s ░░░░░░░░ right now Where are ░░░░░░░░ CARROLL Well I m ░░░░░░░░ the perimeter Laura Again ░░░░░░░░ think you heard John ░░░░░░░░ explain and I think ░░░░░░░░ explained it explained it ░░░░░░░░ You know as I ░░░░░░░░ walking over to the ░░░░░░░░ tried to explain you ░░░░░░░░ who I was identified ░░░░░░░░ I was with I ░░░░░░░░ he said I d ░░░░░░░░ you to turn around ░░░░░░░░ turned around I had ░░░░░░░░ hands behind my back ░░░░░░░░ did not put me ░░░░░░░░ zip ties but they ░░░░░░░░ grab both my hands ░░░░░░░░ I was escorted over ░░░░░░░░ the side They said ░░░░░░░░ are being detained while ░░░░░░░░ lead you out of ░░░░░░░░ area You are not ░░░░░░░░ to be in this ░░░░░░░░ So they took me ░░░░░░░░ to the side they ░░░░░░░░ down my name they ░░░░░░░░ me where I was ░░░░░░░░ You know they get ░░░░░░░░ basic information And I ░░░░░░░░ Am I being arrested ░░░░░░░░ said No you re ░░░░░░░░ being arrested You re ░░░░░░░░ detained And so there ░░░░░░░░ that You know as ░░░░░░░░ you know these are ░░░░░░░░ of the things that ░░░░░░░░ you know you take ░░░░░░░░ lot of risks as ░░░░░░░░ This is low on ░░░░░░░░ sort of scale of ░░░░░░░░ but it is something ░░░░░░░░ I wasn t expecting ░░░░░░░░ because we ve been ░░░░░░░░ here all day I ░░░░░░░░ covered any number of ░░░░░░░░ and normally there s ░░░░░░░░ know the you know ░░░░░░░░ officers put the press ░░░░░░░░ that the press is ░░░░░░░░ doing a job so ░░░░░░░░ speak But again this ░░░░░░░░ what happened It did ░░░░░░░░ last long Felt a ░░░░░░░░ a little longer than ░░░░░░░░ it was But there ░░░░░░░░ have it But we ░░░░░░░░ now outside the perimeter ░░░░░░░░ the protest at least ░░░░░░░░ this point is being ░░░░░░░░ Getting back to the ░░░░░░░░ why we re here ░░░░░░░░ reporting on why we ░░░░░░░░ here they re making ░░░░░░░░ number of arrests of ░░░░░░░░ demonstrators who were left ░░░░░░░░ a couple of dozen ░░░░░░░░ so They had put ░░░░░░░░ the announcement that anyone ░░░░░░░░ was still here would ░░░░░░░░ put under arrest for ░░░░░░░░ to disperse And so ░░░░░░░░ that point that s ░░░░░░░░ they took those demonstrators ░░░░░░░░ custody after they had ░░░░░░░░ of boxed them in ░░░░░░░░ at one point we ░░░░░░░░ ask Hey can we ░░░░░░░░ outside this perimeter so ░░░░░░░░ can get a better ░░░░░░░░ We were denied and ░░░░░░░░ that we were not ░░░░░░░░ to leave And so ░░░░░░░░ that point as I ░░░░░░░░ you before it happened ░░░░░░░░ would sort of play ░░░░░░░░ by ear and that ░░░░░░░░ how it went down.”
