Rep. Jayapal: We’re Here at the ICE Detention Center in Tacoma to Perform Our Congressional Duty and Conduct Oversight

RANDALL Hi it s ░░░░░░░░ Randall I m here ░░░░░░░░ my colleagues Congresswomen Jayapal ░░░░░░░░ Dexter We re at ░░░░░░░░ Northwest Detention Center getting ░░░░░░░░ to do an announced ░░░░░░░░ visit I m so ░░░░░░░░ to be joined by ░░░░░░░░ colleagues and anything you ░░░░░░░░ to say about this ░░░░░░░░ Jayapal Well I m ░░░░░░░░ grateful to Congresswoman Randall ░░░░░░░░ Northwest Detention Center is ░░░░░░░░ in her district and ░░░░░░░░ Congresswoman Dexter for driving ░░░░░░░░ I think it is ░░░░░░░░ important for people to ░░░░░░░░ that it is actually ░░░░░░░░ congressional duty obligation to ░░░░░░░░ oversight of detention facilities ░░░░░░░░ is written into statute ░░░░░░░░ is absolutely not appropriate ░░░░░░░░ anybody to try and ░░░░░░░░ us from going into ░░░░░░░░ detention center These visits ░░░░░░░░ not have to be ░░░░░░░░ So we are here ░░░░░░░░ do our oversight duty ░░░░░░░░ check in on some ░░░░░░░░ detainees that are here ░░░░░░░░ also to listen to ░░░░░░░░ of the staff here ░░░░░░░░ well as the detainees ░░░░░░░░ the conditions here at ░░░░░░░░ detention center DEXTER Yeah ░░░░░░░░ I ll just share ░░░░░░░░ bit We ve had ░░░░░░░░ of concerns across the ░░░░░░░░ with medical support and ░░░░░░░░ services for folks especially ░░░░░░░░ who are medically fragile ░░░░░░░░ needing follow up more ░░░░░░░░ than they are getting ░░░░░░░░ that is one of ░░░░░░░░ issues that we absolutely ░░░░░░░░ to check in on ░░░░░░░░ RANDALL Yeah And Maxine ░░░░░░░░ were in El Salvador ░░░░░░░░ some of our colleagues ░░░░░░░░ there too And folks ░░░░░░░░ remember that we came ░░░░░░░░ month but we had ░░░░░░░░ coordinated announced visit then ░░░░░░░░ wanted to come back ░░░░░░░░ see what we hear ░░░░░░░░ see when we haven ░░░░░░░░ coordinated ahead of time ░░░░░░░░ make sure that folks ░░░░░░░░ being treated respectfully with ░░░░░░░░ and get the services ░░░░░░░░ support that they need ░░░░░░░░ they re here Jayapal ░░░░░░░░
