BERMAN With us now ░░░░░░░░ CNN anchor chief Washington ░░░░░░░░ and fantastic author Jake ░░░░░░░░ Jake tell us more ░░░░░░░░ that moment between President ░░░░░░░░ and George Clooney and ░░░░░░░░ it ultimately led to ░░░░░░░░ dropping out of the ░░░░░░░░ TAPPER So thanks so ░░░░░░░░ for having me John ░░░░░░░░ President Biden came into ░░░░░░░░ Los Angeles fundraiser June ░░░░░░░░ and behind the scenes ░░░░░░░░ were little tiny fundraisers ░░░░░░░░ the big big donors ░░░░░░░░ was the thing the ░░░░░░░░ on stage with Jimmy ░░░░░░░░ and Barack Obama but ░░░░░░░░ also behind the scenes ░░░░░░░░ and smaller speeches for ░░░░░░░░ donors And it was ░░░░░░░░ that President Biden walked ░░░░░░░░ to George Clooney and ░░░░░░░░ realized and other people ░░░░░░░░ realized that Biden did ░░░░░░░░ recognize him This despite ░░░░░░░░ fact that they d ░░░░░░░░ each other since roughly ░░░░░░░░ 9 11 They d ░░░░░░░░ many meetings when Biden ░░░░░░░░ vice president They d ░░░░░░░░ each other for a ░░░░░░░░ time Biden had awarded ░░░░░░░░ a Kennedy Center award ░░░░░░░░ December 2022 And obviously ░░░░░░░░ I mean Clooney was ░░░░░░░░ this fundraiser for him ░░░░░░░░ record setting fundraiser And ░░░░░░░░ was just walking around ░░░░░░░░ Hello thanks for being ░░░░░░░░ Hello thanks for being ░░░░░░░░ And an aide said ░░░░░░░░ know George And the ░░░░░░░░ was like Yeah sure ░░░░░░░░ are you Thanks for ░░░░░░░░ here And the aide ░░░░░░░░ to say No George ░░░░░░░░ And it was just ░░░░░░░░ for everyone involved And ░░░░░░░░ fact it wasn t ░░░░░░░░ those in that specific ░░░░░░░░ that were shocked President ░░░░░░░░ was there he was ░░░░░░░░ BERMAN Yeah TAPPER He ░░░░░░░░ it to the rough ░░░░░░░░ that Biden had going ░░░░░░░░ Europe to Delaware back ░░░░░░░░ Europe and then to ░░░░░░░░ A but he realized ░░░░░░░░ on that it wasn ░░░░░░░░ just the schedule that ░░░░░░░░ the issue.”
