Norris on Tariffs: Everything Is Going to Go Up, They Don’t Understand That Many Americans ‘Live on the Margins’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT Wallace Michelle ░░░░░░░░ will forever remember your ░░░░░░░░ reports on Election Day ░░░░░░░░ Election Day Every Election ░░░░░░░░ is about a lot ░░░░░░░░ than one thing but ░░░░░░░░ thing that everybody talked ░░░░░░░░ in trying to explain ░░░░░░░░ understand the results was ░░░░░░░░ the price of all ░░░░░░░░ not the price of ░░░░░░░░ from China the price ░░░░░░░░ eggs and Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ his trumpian 2 instead ░░░░░░░░ 30 sort of inability ░░░░░░░░ really even pretend to ░░░░░░░░ how normal people live ░░░░░░░░ it the grocery We ░░░░░░░░ an election in this ░░░░░░░░ that turned in our ░░░░░░░░ of political media on ░░░░░░░░ price of eggs everything ░░░░░░░░ is sort of in ░░░░░░░░ bucket of cost triggers ░░░░░░░░ about to go up ░░░░░░░░ I mean and put ░░░░░░░░ for a moment But ░░░░░░░░ you ve got a ░░░░░░░░ that dances costumes are ░░░░░░░░ to go up shoes ░░░░░░░░ going to go up ░░░░░░░░ are going to go ░░░░░░░░ makeup is going to ░░░░░░░░ up hair clips are ░░░░░░░░ to go up Kid ░░░░░░░░ plays baseball cups more ░░░░░░░░ The pants are more ░░░░░░░░ the belts more expensive ░░░░░░░░ socks are more expensive ░░░░░░░░ single thing that you ░░░░░░░░ for for a family ░░░░░░░░ about to cost more ░░░░░░░░ America And I and ░░░░░░░░ am so so overwhelmingly ░░░░░░░░ guess dismayed that the ░░░░░░░░ are going to March ░░░░░░░░ the cliff with Trump ░░░░░░░░ months after the American ░░░░░░░░ threw out an entire ░░░░░░░░ over the price of ░░░░░░░░ NORRIS And you know ░░░░░░░░ s Someone I check ░░░░░░░░ regularly who runs a ░░░░░░░░ And I checked they ░░░░░░░░ to me that the ░░░░░░░░ of eggs normally a ░░░░░░░░ of 15 eggs would ░░░░░░░░ 35 It s now ░░░░░░░░ to around 150 So ░░░░░░░░ price of eggs is ░░░░░░░░ high But I like ░░░░░░░░ examples that you gave ░░░░░░░░ the beginning of this ░░░░░░░░ you were talking about ░░░░░░░░ that people use who ░░░░░░░░ with their hands sports ░░░░░░░░ if your kids are ░░░░░░░░ know are playing sports ░░░░░░░░ you re shopping at ░░░░░░░░ or temu maybe those ░░░░░░░░ impulse purchases You might ░░░░░░░░ need that cute lavender ░░░░░░░░ that you have your ░░░░░░░░ on but you know ░░░░░░░░ many other things are ░░░░░░░░ to go up that ░░░░░░░░ do need paper products ░░░░░░░░ products You know if ░░░░░░░░ want to go on ░░░░░░░░ picnic the paper products ░░░░░░░░ you use for that ░░░░░░░░ going to go up ░░░░░░░░ is going to go ░░░░░░░░ And what they don ░░░░░░░░ understand is that so ░░░░░░░░ Americans live on the ░░░░░░░░ live on the margins ░░░░░░░░ so if everything is ░░░░░░░░ up by 20 every ░░░░░░░░ category is going up ░░░░░░░░ 20 this is pushing ░░░░░░░░ closer and closer to ░░░░░░░░ edge And we re ░░░░░░░░ about the consumer goods ░░░░░░░░ are going to be ░░░░░░░░ expensive You know we ░░░░░░░░ t talked about the ░░░░░░░░ chain So many of ░░░░░░░░ things that actually are ░░░░░░░░ here in the us ░░░░░░░░ on parts and equipment ░░░░░░░░ and gadgets that are ░░░░░░░░ from overseas And so ░░░░░░░░ we get into the ░░░░░░░░ and the third quarter ░░░░░░░░ David certainly knows probably ░░░░░░░░ more about this than ░░░░░░░░ do but we re ░░░░░░░░ to be probably be ░░░░░░░░ at manufacturing slowdowns And ░░░░░░░░ that means layoffs That ░░░░░░░░ people if they re ░░░░░░░░ laid off they re ░░░░░░░░ re not pulling that ░░░░░░░░ shift They re just ░░░░░░░░ know scaling down their ░░░░░░░░ So people are going ░░░░░░░░ start to feel this ░░░░░░░░ all kinds of ways ░░░░░░░░ on top of all ░░░░░░░░ then we start to ░░░░░░░░ something called malaise in ░░░░░░░░ economy And people just ░░░░░░░░ t have the kind ░░░░░░░░ confidence that you would ░░░░░░░░ with the economy that ░░░░░░░░ Trump inherited And it ░░░░░░░░ worth repeating that he ░░░░░░░░ a very strong economy ░░░░░░░░ even though people were ░░░░░░░░ about the price of ░░░░░░░░ and the price of ░░░░░░░░ and the price of ░░░░░░░░ and the price of ░░░░░░░░ and everything else the ░░░░░░░░ of the economy were ░░░░░░░░ pretty strong And people ░░░░░░░░ t feel that way ░░░░░░░░ now And so even ░░░░░░░░ he were to reverse ░░░░░░░░ tariffs even if we ░░░░░░░░ get boats on the ░░░░░░░░ and get equipment over ░░░░░░░░ and get goods and ░░░░░░░░ over here much more ░░░░░░░░ much more quickly the ░░░░░░░░ that has settled in ░░░░░░░░ the chaos and the ░░░░░░░░ in the economy is ░░░░░░░░ to linger like a ░░░░░░░░ like a bad hangover ░░░░░░░░ a very long time.”
