DNC Vice Chair: We’re Trying to Replace Ineffective Persons with Generational Leaders

Sanders TOWNSEND The man ░░░░░░░░ question joins me now ░░░░░░░░ You made a lot ░░░░░░░░ people mad today HOGG ░░░░░░░░ few Sanders TOWNSEND I ░░░░░░░░ heard from a few ░░░░░░░░ As the former Senator ░░░░░░░░ campaign staffer in me ░░░░░░░░ Yes fight the power ░░░░░░░░ former DNC member in ░░░░░░░░ says I don t ░░░░░░░░ if this is what ░░░░░░░░ DNC vice chair should ░░░░░░░░ doing What do you ░░░░░░░░ to the people who ░░░░░░░░ very critical of this ░░░░░░░░ you are an elected ░░░░░░░░ chair of the Democratic ░░░░░░░░ Committee HOGG I mean ░░░░░░░░ look at former vice ░░░░░░░░ that have been involved ░░░░░░░░ primaries previously as well ░░░░░░░░ would also say when ░░░░░░░░ was running for this ░░░░░░░░ I was running as ░░░░░░░░ was president of Leaders ░░░░░░░░ Deserve in the years ░░░░░░░░ to this where we ░░░░░░░░ in primaries to help ░░░░░░░░ young Democrats to state ░░░░░░░░ in Congress And I ░░░░░░░░ to clear one thing ░░░░░░░░ This is not an ░░░░░░░░ that we re taking ░░░░░░░░ age in particular Like ░░░░░░░░ are ineffective older people ░░░░░░░░ ineffective younger people across ░░░░░░░░ party Sanders TOWNSEND You ░░░░░░░░ not just targeting old ░░░░░░░░ HOGG No Sanders TOWNSEND ░░░░░░░░ The Washington Post story ░░░░░░░░ y all are going ░░░░░░░░ primary Democrats in safe ░░░░░░░░ districts and the age ░░░░░░░░ then but it did ░░░░░░░░ The age of members ░░░░░░░░ nothing to do with ░░░░░░░░ calculus But the other ░░░░░░░░ played up the age ░░░░░░░░ Exactly Because that s ░░░░░░░░ more controversial story here ░░░░░░░░ are not here there ░░░░░░░░ great older people in ░░░░░░░░ party that are leading ░░░░░░░░ fight against Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ have been doing so ░░░░░░░░ nearly a decade at ░░░░░░░░ point like Congresswoman Pelosi ░░░░░░░░ also have people obviously ░░░░░░░░ Jan Schakowsky and so ░░░░░░░░ others that are meeting ░░░░░░░░ moment But the reality ░░░░░░░░ we know that only ░░░░░░░░ of our base is ░░░░░░░░ of where we are ░░░░░░░░ now as a party ░░░░░░░░ we lost voting shares ░░░░░░░░ every single demographic except ░░░░░░░░ older voters and highly ░░░░░░░░ voters That is a ░░░░░░░░ problem And what we ░░░░░░░░ trying to do here ░░░░░░░░ not just focus on ░░░░░░░░ where there s potentially ░░░░░░░░ older incumbent but more ░░░░░░░░ anything an ineffective person ░░░░░░░░ that position and we ░░░░░░░░ them with a generational ░░░░░░░░ to build the future ░░░░░░░░ our party We re ░░░░░░░░ focusing on competitive races ░░░░░░░░ support the Democrat in ░░░░░░░░ races Sanders TOWNSEND Competitive ░░░░░░░░ election races HOGG Yes ░░░░░░░░ we re not going ░░░░░░░░ challenge the Democratic incumbent ░░░░░░░░ those races We do ░░░░░░░░ want to lose the ░░░░░░░░ here but we want ░░░░░░░░ help make sure that ░░░░░░░░ win back the House ░░░░░░░░ even had a friend ░░░░░░░░ is part of the ░░░░░░░░ why I m doing ░░░░░░░░ who called me from ░░░░░░░░ a few weeks ago ░░░░░░░░ said David I am ░░░░░░░░ mad that my member ░░░░░░░░ a certain way and ░░░░░░░░ re a Democrat I ░░░░░░░░ to primary them And ░░░░░░░░ said Whoa who is ░░░░░░░░ member And I looked ░░░░░░░░ up and it was ░░░░░░░░ Democrat in a D ░░░░░░░░ seat And I said ░░░░░░░░ understand your frustration here ░░░░░░░░ what you need to ░░░░░░░░ as well is we ░░░░░░░░ lose the House if ░░░░░░░░ run here So let ░░░░░░░░ help figure out what ░░░░░░░░ can run for because ░░░░░░░░ is a growing movement ░░░░░░░░ that happening across our ░░░░░░░░ and I do not ░░░░░░░░ that to happen But ░░░░░░░░ have to show our ░░░░░░░░ how we are changing ░░░░░░░░ how we are meeting ░░░░░░░░ this moment to fight ░░░░░░░░ because we re losing ░░░░░░░░ young people too They ░░░░░░░░ losing faith in democracy ░░░░░░░░ Sanders TOWNSEND They are ░░░░░░░░ losing faith in democracy ░░░░░░░░ The answer to that ░░░░░░░░ showing them how we ░░░░░░░░ using democracy to rebuild ░░░░░░░░ review the American dream ░░░░░░░░ they feel like is ░░░░░░░░ farce to them Sanders ░░░░░░░░ So one I think ░░░░░░░░ friend should call up ░░░░░░░░ run for something They ░░░░░░░░ help them run for ░░░░░░░░ absolutely.”
