Susan Monarez Explains How AI Will Accelerate Better Health Outcomes for All

MONAREZ We think about ░░░░░░░░ AI for health care ░░░░░░░░ a number of different ░░░░░░░░ So some are direct ░░░░░░░░ the patients what tools ░░░░░░░░ what capabilities can we ░░░░░░░░ to help them really ░░░░░░░░ where they are in ░░░░░░░░ health care journey and ░░░░░░░░ them to make great ░░░░░░░░ We also think about ░░░░░░░░ from the provider side ░░░░░░░░ how can we help ░░░░░░░░ better understand their patients ░░░░░░░░ can we help providers ░░░░░░░░ their time within the ░░░░░░░░ system as they re ░░░░░░░░ patients as they re ░░░░░░░░ to make complex decisions ░░░░░░░░ create the conditions for ░░░░░░░░ patient health outcomes We ░░░░░░░░ think about AI from ░░░░░░░░ defensive side So we ░░░░░░░░ that there is a ░░░░░░░░ vulnerability within the health ░░░░░░░░ More and more is ░░░░░░░░ online in the internet ░░░░░░░░ things that are going ░░░░░░░░ have an incredibly positive ░░░░░░░░ but we also know ░░░░░░░░ creates vulnerabilities And so ░░░░░░░░ re using that same ░░░░░░░░ technology to help defend ░░░░░░░░ those vulnerabilities to anticipate ░░░░░░░░ negative implications that are ░░░░░░░░ within the health systems ░░░░░░░░ to try to stay ░░░░░░░░ of it ARPA H ░░░░░░░░ on the entirety of ░░░░░░░░ healthy ecosystem It s ░░░░░░░░ just biomedical research it ░░░░░░░░ not just resilience systems ░░░░░░░░ s not just investing ░░░░░░░░ the tech of the ░░░░░░░░ It is all of ░░░░░░░░ And what we do ░░░░░░░░ we actually go out ░░░░░░░░ we seek these incredible ░░░░░░░░ we call them our ░░░░░░░░ managers and they come ░░░░░░░░ us and they say ░░░░░░░░ know here the big ░░░░░░░░ that we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ the health ecosystem space ░░░░░░░░ will fund anything across ░░░░░░░░ health ecosystem so long ░░░░░░░░ it helps further our ░░░░░░░░ which is to improve ░░░░░░░░ outcomes for everyone So ░░░░░░░░ AI Cyber Challenge fits ░░░░░░░░ well within the mission ░░░░░░░░ ARPA H in that ░░░░░░░░ are funding traditional type ░░░░░░░░ which are big and ░░░░░░░░ and ambitious We also ░░░░░░░░ these challenges where we ░░░░░░░░ that there is a ░░░░░░░░ problem within the health ░░░░░░░░ And we need to ░░░░░░░░ the most innovative solutions ░░░░░░░░ come to the table ░░░░░░░░ come in and look ░░░░░░░░ that problem set in ░░░░░░░░ entirely different ways And ░░░░░░░░ have said Here are ░░░░░░░░ we understand are those ░░░░░░░░ we ve given them ░░░░░░░░ access to so much ░░░░░░░░ the capability that that ░░░░░░░░ see here at DEF ░░░░░░░░ and we say We ░░░░░░░░ going to tell you ░░░░░░░░ the solution is You ░░░░░░░░ us how you would ░░░░░░░░ that problem And we ░░░░░░░░ it through this challenge ░░░░░░░░ The incredible benefit that ░░░░░░░░ H is going to ░░░░░░░░ from watching this type ░░░░░░░░ the challenge is that ░░░░░░░░ re gonna see a ░░░░░░░░ of solutions that come ░░░░░░░░ from all of these ░░░░░░░░ competitors where they don ░░░░░░░░ look at the problem ░░░░░░░░ same way They each ░░░░░░░░ with their own perspective ░░░░░░░░ they say Here s ░░░░░░░░ I would solve this ░░░░░░░░ Here is the vulnerability ░░░░░░░░ I m finding And ░░░░░░░░ will be the beneficiaries ░░░░░░░░ ultimately the whole health ░░░░░░░░ will be the beneficiaries ░░░░░░░░ what they re developing ░░░░░░░░ through this first year ░░░░░░░░ we re getting to ░░░░░░░░ semi finals and then ░░░░░░░░ the next year where ░░░░░░░░ re actually getting to ░░░░░░░░ finalists we re already ░░░░░░░░ some incredible work that ░░░░░░░░ coming out of these ░░░░░░░░ and we re leveraging ░░░░░░░░ to help solve some ░░░░░░░░ these big problems Coming ░░░░░░░░ the AIxCC city is ░░░░░░░░ think so well choreographed ░░░░░░░░ understand the vulnerabilities that ░░░░░░░░ across the health ecosystem ░░░░░░░░ whether it is that ░░░░░░░░ care site an emergency ░░░░░░░░ provider back office all ░░░░░░░░ that is collectively now ░░░░░░░░ in a AIxCC so ░░░░░░░░ cleverness of who came ░░░░░░░░ to think about what ░░░░░░░░ to be present to ░░░░░░░░ a health ecosystem to ░░░░░░░░ the competition so that ░░░░░░░░ Cyber Challenge really is ░░░░░░░░ represented by what we ░░░░░░░░ in the infrastructure of ░░░░░░░░ village is incredibly well ░░░░░░░░ It is so thoughtful ░░░░░░░░ should allow anyone who ░░░░░░░░ wondering what does it ░░░░░░░░ like in a healthcare ░░░░░░░░ to understand the vulnerabilities ░░░░░░░░ are present in a ░░░░░░░░ that maybe they ve ░░░░░░░░ even been able to ░░░░░░░░ about they ve never ░░░░░░░░ and never understood where ░░░░░░░░ those vulnerabilities come from ░░░░░░░░ do you identify them ░░░░░░░░ do you bend against ░░░░░░░░ That is all represented ░░░░░░░░ in the AIxCC village ░░░░░░░░ this space is moving ░░░░░░░░ fast that we re ░░░░░░░░ hoping that it illuminates ░░░░░░░░ that can help us ░░░░░░░░ what is the threat ░░░░░░░░ of tomorrow or two ░░░░░░░░ from now or five ░░░░░░░░ from now And so ░░░░░░░░ we build the capabilities ░░░░░░░░ the next year of ░░░░░░░░ it s going to ░░░░░░░░ lead us to what ░░░░░░░░ we doing in our ░░░░░░░░ portfolio in 2027 or ░░░░░░░░ or 2035 because it ░░░░░░░░ gonna continue to evolve ░░░░░░░░ this is the place ░░░░░░░░ we really think that ░░░░░░░░ can drive technical understanding ░░░░░░░░ how this is evolving ░░░░░░░░ what do we need ░░░░░░░░ do now to shape ░░░░░░░░ future to be able ░░░░░░░░ continue to have safe ░░░░░░░░ within our health systems ░░░░░░░░ of the other great ░░░░░░░░ of having ARPA H ░░░░░░░░ and really being at ░░░░░░░░ forefront of this technology ░░░░░░░░ part of our core ░░░░░░░░ as an agency we ░░░░░░░░ want to make sure ░░░░░░░░ that capabilities being developed ░░░░░░░░ democratized in such a ░░░░░░░░ is that they will ░░░░░░░░ not just the large ░░░░░░░░ systems those that have ░░░░░░░░ margins where they can ░░░░░░░░ on the greatest technologies ░░░░░░░░ be able to create ░░░░░░░░ safe and secure environment ░░░░░░░░ also those who operate ░░░░░░░░ a very low margin ░░░░░░░░ those in the rural ░░░░░░░░ critical access hospitals FQHCs ░░░░░░░░ of which have the ░░░░░░░░ sets of vulnerabilities now ░░░░░░░░ we create these capabilities ░░░░░░░░ goal is to make ░░░░░░░░ that they are accessible ░░░░░░░░ they are affordable and ░░░░░░░░ so that we create ░░░░░░░░ safer space across the ░░░░░░░░ ecosystem We also want ░░░░░░░░ make sure that we ░░░░░░░░ recruiting program managers that ░░░░░░░░ in with the same ░░░░░░░░ of energy and excitement ░░░░░░░░ really identify critical problems ░░░░░░░░ they see within the ░░░░░░░░ ecosystem that they want ░░░░░░░░ help be part of ░░░░░░░░ solution and when they ░░░░░░░░ to ARPA H we ░░░░░░░░ them the capabilities to ░░░░░░░░ forward in significant ways ░░░░░░░░ be able to address ░░░░░░░░ problems It has just ░░░░░░░░ an awesome experience and ░░░░░░░░ m so excited that ░░░░░░░░ H is now part ░░░░░░░░ this collective DEF CON ░░░░░░░░ AIxCC and I m ░░░░░░░░ forward to many opportunities ░░░░░░░░ come in the future.”
