PHILLIPS So as Trump ░░░░░░░░ his term taking decisive ░░░░░░░░ Dems are still trying ░░░░░░░░ find their way out ░░░░░░░░ the wilderness Faced with ░░░░░░░░ approval ratings and a ░░░░░░░░ of power in the ░░░░░░░░ and a lack of ░░░░░░░░ leadership they re wondering ░░░░░░░░ is the Democratic Party ░░░░░░░░ our next guest says ░░░░░░░░ starts with being honest ░░░░░░░░ not making promises that ░░░░░░░░ can t keep Subject ░░░░░░░░ a pretty glowing New ░░░░░░░░ Times profile titling him ░░░░░░░░ the key to the ░░░░░░░░ of the Democratic Party ░░░░░░░░ Jason Crow of Colorado ░░░░░░░░ me now Yeah it ░░░░░░░░ not often you get ░░░░░░░░ a nice writeup as ░░░░░░░░ politician whether you re ░░░░░░░░ Republican or a Democrat ░░░░░░░░ Well trust me plenty ░░░░░░░░ people say less PHILLIPS ░░░░░░░░ the opposite CROW less ░░░░░░░░ things about me it ░░░░░░░░ part of the business ░░░░░░░░ just have to take ░░░░░░░░ highs with the lows ░░░░░░░░ this PHILLIPS Well let ░░░░░░░░ talk about why folks ░░░░░░░░ saying this and your ░░░░░░░░ First of all I ░░░░░░░░ how do you rebrand ░░░░░░░░ party that has so ░░░░░░░░ baggage right now I ░░░░░░░░ what are Democrats not ░░░░░░░░ that they need to ░░░░░░░░ in this moment CROW ░░░░░░░░ you know I don ░░░░░░░░ want to overstate the ░░░░░░░░ of the problem right ░░░░░░░░ do a lot of ░░░░░░░░ things Like I m ░░░░░░░░ Democrat because we do ░░░░░░░░ great things and we ░░░░░░░░ the party of working ░░░░░░░░ Americans and we have ░░░░░░░░ best policies My broader ░░░░░░░░ here is that if ░░░░░░░░ re going to stop ░░░░░░░░ Trump from hurting this ░░░░░░░░ from hurting the people ░░░░░░░░ I represent from taking ░░░░░░░░ away from folks by ░░░░░░░░ tax breaks to billionaires ░░░░░░░░ the backs of working ░░░░░░░░ and middle class Americans ░░░░░░░░ we re going to ░░░░░░░░ that we need to ░░░░░░░░ winning elections in places ░░░░░░░░ we re not winning ░░░░░░░░ And that means flipping ░░░░░░░░ that Donald Trump won ░░░░░░░░ means flipping seats that ░░░░░░░░ held by Republicans flipping ░░░░░░░░ in areas of the ░░░░░░░░ where I grew up ░░░░░░░░ know I grew up ░░░░░░░░ a working class family ░░░░░░░░ started working when I ░░░░░░░░ 15 at McDonald s ░░░░░░░░ Arby s I worked ░░░░░░░░ construction to help put ░░░░░░░░ way through college I ░░░░░░░░ an Army Ranger I ░░░░░░░░ our country These are ░░░░░░░░ folks I grew up ░░░░░░░░ And right now we ░░░░░░░░ a brand problem People ░░░░░░░░ t think that we ░░░░░░░░ them So listening and ░░░░░░░░ with our roots is ░░░░░░░░ important right now PHILLIPS ░░░░░░░░ how do you do ░░░░░░░░ Because you haven t ░░░░░░░░ shy about standing up ░░░░░░░░ your party I mean ░░░░░░░░ voted against Nancy Pelosi ░░░░░░░░ said Biden was too ░░░░░░░░ to serve another 4 ░░░░░░░░ You know how do ░░░░░░░░ get Dems to trust ░░░░░░░░ right now and believe ░░░░░░░░ your new way is ░░░░░░░░ way CROW Well you ░░░░░░░░ I learned something growing ░░░░░░░░ in working class communities ░░░░░░░░ that is you just ░░░░░░░░ to be yourself right ░░░░░░░░ s plenty of politicians ░░░░░░░░ try to become a ░░░░░░░░ of something else right ░░░░░░░░ s a lot of ░░░░░░░░ that will walk in ░░░░░░░░ say oh I need ░░░░░░░░ prove that you know ░░░░░░░░ m an everyman or ░░░░░░░░ So I m going ░░░░░░░░ go into a Walmart ░░░░░░░░ m going to buy ░░░░░░░░ Carhartt jacket and some ░░░░░░░░ and I m going ░░░░░░░░ walk into a job ░░░░░░░░ or construction site or ░░░░░░░░ to a Friday night ░░░░░░░░ fry It doesn t ░░░░░░░░ right It doesn t ░░░░░░░░ because if you re ░░░░░░░░ yourself and you re ░░░░░░░░ authentic people automatically will ░░░░░░░░ that their BS meters ░░░░░░░░ go off right So ░░░░░░░░ be yourself tell people ░░░░░░░░ truth They may not ░░░░░░░░ like it but they ░░░░░░░░ know if you re ░░░░░░░░ a straight shooter with ░░░░░░░░ and actually start listening ░░░░░░░░ Part of the issue ░░░░░░░░ in a lot of ░░░░░░░░ in America people think ░░░░░░░░ the Democrats look down ░░░░░░░░ them that we malign ░░░░░░░░ way of life that ░░░░░░░░ don t understand their ░░░░░░░░ of life You know ░░░░░░░░ grew up hunting I ░░░░░░░░ duck and rabbit and ░░░░░░░░ But I m also ░░░░░░░░ that believes in preventing ░░░░░░░░ violence And you can ░░░░░░░░ both right But you ░░░░░░░░ to know what you ░░░░░░░░ talking about You ought ░░░░░░░░ know how a firearm ░░░░░░░░ You ought to know ░░░░░░░░ importance of hunting culture ░░░░░░░░ a lot of communities ░░░░░░░░ a lot of families ░░░░░░░░ our country So understanding ░░░░░░░░ people are coming from ░░░░░░░░ listening is critical here ░░░░░░░░ Alright.”
