Raskin: ‘GOP Is Really at War with the Government of the People’

People are just a ░░░░░░░░ bit ticked off joining ░░░░░░░░ now is Congressman Jamie ░░░░░░░░ who is just finished ░░░░░░░░ own town hall in ░░░░░░░░ Maryland welcome Congressman it ░░░░░░░░ great to have you ░░░░░░░░ so Frederick Maryland um ░░░░░░░░ uh not necessarily uh ░░░░░░░░ exact backyard but I ░░░░░░░░ the thinking tell us ░░░░░░░░ the town hall so ░░░░░░░░ Frederick used to be ░░░░░░░░ of the eth district ░░░░░░░░ got Jerry mandard out ░░░░░░░░ there Alas and lost ░░░░░░░░ those wonderful people but ░░░░░░░░ re now in the ░░░░░░░░ district with April Delaney ░░░░░░░░ she invited me to ░░░░░░░░ uh to talk about ░░░░░░░░ work that I ve ░░░░░░░░ doing on the legal ░░░░░░░░ because as you know ░░░░░░░░ top Democrat on the ░░░░░░░░ Committee I ve been ░░░░░░░░ our efforts to work ░░░░░░░░ the litigators around the ░░░░░░░░ the state attorney generals ░░░░░░░░ anybody who s in ░░░░░░░░ against this nightmare tomorrow ░░░░░░░░ head to Pennsylvania and ░░░░░░░░ I will go out ░░░░░░░░ Andy Harris s District ░░░░░░░░ which is on the ░░░░░░░░ Shore as you know ░░░░░░░░ and he has not ░░░░░░░░ a an in person ░░░░░░░░ hall meeting since uh ░░░░░░░░ as I understand it ░░░░░░░░ he s refusing to ░░░░░░░░ with people now and ░░░░░░░░ now have uh built ░░░░░░░░ giant uh milk boxes ░░░░░░░░ Andy Harris s picture ░░░░░░░░ it saying where s ░░░░░░░░ well I I would ░░░░░░░░ the as a fellow ░░░░░░░░ I would invite the ░░░░░░░░ to come spend some ░░░░░░░░ with the constituents who ░░░░░░░░ him I mean what ░░░░░░░░ could possibly go wrong ░░░░░░░░ voted for you um ░░░░░░░░ the reality though is ░░░░░░░░ that uh congresswoman Hegman ░░░░░░░░ is beginning to to ░░░░░░░░ and realize we have ░░░░░░░░ coming out that at ░░░░░░░░ Town Hall they ve ░░░░░░░░ you know lines uh ░░░░░░░░ uh to get in ░░░░░░░░ and a lot of ░░░░░░░░ noise around you know ░░░░░░░░ how the how this ░░░░░░░░ is treating the American ░░░░░░░░ what is your sense ░░░░░░░░ how this is playing ░░░░░░░░ um and the disconnect ░░░░░░░░ the Congressional members who ░░░░░░░░ elected to represent the ░░░░░░░░ people who are apparently ░░░░░░░░ pissed off right now ░░░░░░░░ look um the Republicans ░░░░░░░░ in a full blown ░░░░░░░░ on Medicaid they re ░░░░░░░░ want to cut 880 ░░░░░░░░ doll from the Medicaid ░░░░░░░░ uh Elon Musk has ░░░░░░░░ Social Security of course ░░░░░░░░ the big one that ░░░░░░░░ the big Target that ░░░░░░░░ re aiming for um ░░░░░░░░ they are uh hollowing ░░░░░░░░ all kinds of federal ░░░░░░░░ and departments that the ░░░░░░░░ people depend on like ░░░░░░░░ which does The Cutting ░░░░░░░░ medical research uh and ░░░░░░░░ s now got swept ░░░░░░░░ in their whole anti ░░░░░░░░ uh Crusade same thing ░░░░░░░░ uh you know the ░░░░░░░░ they sacked the director ░░░░░░░░ fa FAA on the ░░░░░░░░ day of their Administration ░░░░░░░░ 20th because Elon Musk ░░░░░░░░ t like him and ░░░░░░░░ got rid of his ░░░░░░░░ codery and what do ░░░░░░░░ know we have the ░░░░░░░░ fatal airplane crash in ░░░░░░░░ years followed by a ░░░░░░░░ bunch of other uh ░░░░░░░░ and near collisions that ░░░░░░░░ taken place so people ░░░░░░░░ beginning to recognize that ░░░░░░░░ GOP is really at ░░░░░░░░ with the government of ░░░░░░░░ people and they don ░░░░░░░░ like the idea that ░░░░░░░░ government is an instrument ░░░░░░░░ the common good they ░░░░░░░░ to use it for ░░░░░░░░ billionaires and it s ░░░░░░░░ billionaires cabinet and we ░░░░░░░░ who was sitting behind ░░░░░░░░ Trump on his inauguration ░░░░░░░░ it was Elon Musk ░░░░░░░░ uh it was uh ░░░░░░░░ Zuckerberg and it was ░░░░░░░░ Bezos and behind them ░░░░░░░░ a cabinet of billionaires ░░░░░░░░ it s a government ░░░░░░░░ represents much less than ░░░░░░░░ of the American people ░░░░░░░░ what s happening in ░░░░░░░░ Town Hall meetings across ░░░░░░░░ country is extraordinary that ░░░░░░░░ vast majority of Americans ░░░░░░░░ turning out to say ░░░░░░░░ want their government back ░░░░░░░░ that s an important ░░░░░░░░ uh Congressman because you ░░░░░░░░ have uh at least ░░░░░░░░ from the Democratic the ░░░░░░░░ Democratic committee um the ░░░░░░░░ Congressional Campaign especially encouraging ░░░░░░░░ kind of action that ░░░░░░░░ re taking as a ░░░░░░░░ uh to go and ░░░░░░░░ these Town Hall meetings ░░░░░░░░ they re in your ░░░░░░░░ or fellow members District ░░░░░░░░ if it s a ░░░░░░░░ member um tomorrow you ░░░░░░░░ Democratic National Committee chair ░░░░░░░░ Ken Martin and yourself ░░░░░░░░ other and representative Susie ░░░░░░░░ um heading uh to ░░░░░░░░ Pennsylvania as you mentioned ░░░░░░░░ you re out there ░░░░░░░░ these these conversations but ░░░░░░░░ on the other side ░░░░░░░░ it you have for ░░░░░░░░ um uh Nancy Mace ░░░░░░░░ a member of the ░░░░░░░░ uh who is refusing ░░░░░░░░ do Town Halls because ░░░░░░░░ threatening constitu itu um ░░░░░░░░ then you ve got ░░░░░░░░ little diddy from the ░░░░░░░░ Carolina congresswoman Virginia Fox ░░░░░░░░ telling Fox News why ░░░░░░░░ doesn t do town ░░░░░░░░ I don t do ░░░░░░░░ Halls because I think ░░░░░░░░ s just an opportunity ░░░░░░░░ people to yell at ░░░░░░░░ member of Congress oh ░░░░░░░░ put upon members of ░░░░░░░░ making almost 200 000 ░░░░░░░░ years in a job ░░░░░░░░ which they barely meet ░░░░░░░░ that s how the ░░░░░░░░ people see this moment ░░░░░░░░ you can t stand ░░░░░░░░ help us as the ░░░░░░░░ is going to sign ░░░░░░░░ Congressman as executive order ░░░░░░░░ eliminate the department of ░░░░░░░░ education and so we ░░░░░░░░ why and then man ░░░░░░░░ Mace and and Virginia ░░░░░░░░ are sitting there going ░░░░░░░░ I can t talk ░░░░░░░░ my constituents because uh ░░░░░░░░ are threatening me and ░░░░░░░░ yell at me look ░░░░░░░░ democracy uh those of ░░░░░░░░ who and attain to ░░░░░░░░ office as you know ░░░░░░░░ are nothing but the ░░░░░░░░ of the people and ░░░░░░░░ minute that we think ░░░░░░░░ re the masters of ░░░░░░░░ people and we don ░░░░░░░░ have to face the ░░░░░░░░ and we don t ░░░░░░░░ to listen to the ░░░░░░░░ that is the moment ░░░░░░░░ evict eject reject impeach ░░░░░░░░ convict start all over ░░░░░░░░ and we are starting ░░░░░░░░ pick up everywhere across ░░░░░░░░ country this strong mood ░░░░░░░░ we need to get ░░░░░░░░ of the politicians who ░░░░░░░░ not acting like the ░░░░░░░░ of the people and ░░░░░░░░ s interesting that uh ░░░░░░░░ my dear colleague Virginia ░░░░░░░░ says she doesn t ░░░░░░░░ to go in a ░░░░░░░░ where people just yelling ░░░░░░░░ politicians that s all ░░░░░░░░ Republicans do in committees ░░░░░░░░ Democrats they turn and ░░░░░░░░ yelling at Democrats and ░░░░░░░░ about Hunter Biden and ░░░░░░░░ Biden they don t ░░░░░░░░ to mind yelling at ░░░░░░░░ other people when it ░░░░░░░░ to the Democrats but ░░░░░░░░ don t want to ░░░░░░░░ their own constituents it ░░░░░░░░ unbelievable Fair Point Congressman ░░░░░░░░ point we re going ░░░░░░░░ uh fit in a ░░░░░░░░ break uh but we ░░░░░░░░ have much more with ░░░░░░░░ jimie Raskin in a moment
