Reporter Mayor I wanted ░░░░░░░░ ask you about your ░░░░░░░░ at the CTU who ░░░░░░░░ sable rattling they said ░░░░░░░░ yesterday that the conflict ░░░░░░░░ contract dispute is barreling ░░░░░░░░ an escalated conflict instead ░░░░░░░░ a landed contract Do ░░░░░░░░ believe the CTU would ░░░░░░░░ when one of its ░░░░░░░░ occupies the fifth floor ░░░░░░░░ I share the frustration ░░░░░░░░ do As I stated ░░░░░░░░ there is no other ░░░░░░░░ that has the commitment ░░░░░░░░ I have for our ░░░░░░░░ schools I believe in ░░░░░░░░ education I do I ░░░░░░░░ benefited from public education ░░░░░░░░ family has My children ░░░░░░░░ CPS students the first ░░░░░░░░ in the history of ░░░░░░░░ to send my children ░░░░░░░░ our public schools I ░░░░░░░░ the frustration in the ░░░░░░░░ I do As an ░░░░░░░░ teacher as well as ░░░░░░░░ high school teacher the ░░░░░░░░ that the people of ░░░░░░░░ have is that we ░░░░░░░░ towards really fully funding ░░░░░░░░ public education system And ░░░░░░░░ does that mean That ░░░░░░░░ ensuring that no matter ░░░░░░░░ you live in this ░░░░░░░░ you can count on ░░░░░░░░ social worker and a ░░░░░░░░ being in your building ░░░░░░░░ matter where you live ░░░░░░░░ the city you can ░░░░░░░░ on class sizes that ░░░░░░░░ smaller and manageable No ░░░░░░░░ where you live in ░░░░░░░░ city you should have ░░░░░░░░ reasonable expectation to know ░░░░░░░░ your children are being ░░░░░░░░ to the arts extracurricular ░░░░░░░░ that can help create ░░░░░░░░ in our young people ░░░░░░░░ help build purpose That ░░░░░░░░ what I m fighting ░░░░░░░░ That s what the ░░░░░░░░ of Chicago voted for ░░░░░░░░ voted for a parent ░░░░░░░░ some of the experiences ░░░░░░░░ they re having with ░░░░░░░░ negotiations there are individuals ░░░░░░░░ are not working in ░░░░░░░░ faith on behalf of ░░░░░░░░ expectations that the people ░░░░░░░░ Chicago have And that ░░░░░░░░ a frustration The people ░░░░░░░░ Chicago have spoken They ░░░░░░░░ They trust my vision ░░░░░░░░ public schools sustainable community ░░░░░░░░ I put my body ░░░░░░░░ the line for public ░░░░░░░░ in this city I ░░░░░░░░ t know if you ░░░░░░░░ name any other mayor ░░░░░░░░ blocked elevators and went ░░░░░░░░ a hunger strike to ░░░░░░░░ sure that a school ░░░░░░░░ t be closed And ░░░░░░░░ help us if that ░░░░░░░░ would have been closed ░░░░░░░░ young boys would not ░░░░░░░░ experienced the joy of ░░░░░░░░ and winning Our children ░░░░░░░░ left for dead Our ░░░░░░░░ were fired And speaking ░░░░░░░░ cuts I remember two ░░░░░░░░ ago a 4 percent ░░░░░░░░ was snatched away from ░░░░░░░░ And it s that ░░░░░░░░ of animus and disdain ░░░░░░░░ the public good that ░░░░░░░░ re also experiencing from ░░░░░░░░ It s the same ░░░░░░░░ Cut Lay people off ░░░░░░░░ programs that work That ░░░░░░░░ what Donald Trump is ░░░░░░░░ We cannot have a ░░░░░░░░ that acquiesces to the ░░░░░░░░ that s coming from ░░░░░░░░ C where people are ░░░░░░░░ educators and blaming children ░░░░░░░░ growing up in neighborhoods ░░░░░░░░ have been historically disinfested ░░░░░░░░ And so you know ░░░░░░░░ m trying my best ░░░░░░░░ you know show some ░░░░░░░░ here But I m ░░░░░░░░ now I don t ░░░░░░░░ to do that In ░░░░░░░░ C I had to ░░░░░░░░ that But I m ░░░░░░░░ We have been fighting ░░░░░░░░ public schools in this ░░░░░░░░ for decades Al Raby ░░░░░░░░ campaign manager for the ░░░░░░░░ black mayor in the ░░░░░░░░ of Chicago you know ░░░░░░░░ for justice at Marshall ░░░░░░░░ School and led wildcat ░░░░░░░░ Black folks in particular ░░░░░░░░ been dealing with the ░░░░░░░░ and frustration of administrations ░░░░░░░░ refuse to invest in ░░░░░░░░ The school closings in ░░░░░░░░ over 1 000 children ░░░░░░░░ We don t even ░░░░░░░░ an account for where ░░░░░░░░ were or where they ░░░░░░░░ Willis Wagons the fact ░░░░░░░░ we have lost half ░░░░░░░░ the black teaching force ░░░░░░░░ is the system that ░░░░░░░░ have grappled with And ░░░░░░░░ we re in a ░░░░░░░░ where we can do ░░░░░░░░ by veteran teachers that ░░░░░░░░ overwhelmingly black We can ░░░░░░░░ right by children who ░░░░░░░░ special education services and ░░░░░░░░ education We can do ░░░░░░░░ by the workers of ░░░░░░░░ city And unfortunately we ░░░░░░░░ an individual that believes ░░░░░░░░ he doesn t have ░░░░░░░░ acquiesce to the demands ░░░░░░░░ the people of Chicago ░░░░░░░░ frustration is not directed ░░░░░░░░ the fifth floor Their ░░░░░░░░ is directed at the ░░░░░░░░ who believe that they ░░░░░░░░ the only arbiter for ░░░░░░░░ the people of Chicago ░░░░░░░░ And so here s ░░░░░░░░ I m going to ░░░░░░░░ here now I m ░░░░░░░░ on the city of ░░░░░░░░ all of us to ░░░░░░░░ the Board of Education ░░░░░░░░ well as challenge the ░░░░░░░░ of Chicago Public Schools ░░░░░░░░ challenge them to make ░░░░░░░░ that we do not ░░░░░░░░ back to a dark ░░░░░░░░ with layoffs privatization harming ░░░░░░░░ disinvesting in our children ░░░░░░░░ you re on the ░░░░░░░░ side of Chicago the ░░░░░░░░ southeast side and everywhere ░░░░░░░░ in between we deserve ░░░░░░░░ quality education And I ░░░░░░░░ the city of Chicago ░░░░░░░░ you voted for me ░░░░░░░░ stand with me to ░░░░░░░░ that we don t ░░░░░░░░ an individual or individuals ░░░░░░░░ want to take us ░░░░░░░░ a dark time in ░░░░░░░░ city s history that ░░░░░░░░ cannot acquiesce to the ░░░░░░░░ forms of government that ░░░░░░░░ coming down from Washington ░░░░░░░░ C We re Chicago ░░░░░░░░ are better than that.”
