Pete Muntean: American Airlines that Caught on Fire Landed Safely

COLLINS This is all ░░░░░░░░ preliminary just topic ph ░░░░░░░░ I m just going ░░░░░░░░ go back to the ░░░░░░░░ from them And this ░░░░░░░░ all very very preliminary ░░░░░░░░ let s just reset ░░░░░░░░ American Airlines flight COLLINS ░░░░░░░░ s a new picture ░░░░░░░░ MUNTEAN Yes COLLINS Just ░░░░░░░░ you start to read ░░░░░░░░ MUNTEAN OK So this ░░░░░░░░ COLLINS to show what ░░░░░░░░ looks like MUNTEAN And ░░░░░░░░ we can sort of ░░░░░░░░ the narrative here That ░░░░░░░░ to be flames and ░░░░░░░░ there not on the ░░░░░░░░ side that looks to ░░░░░░░░ on the right side ░░░░░░░░ the airplane although that ░░░░░░░░ dark smoke and that ░░░░░░░░ not a good sign ░░░░░░░░ Why is that not ░░░░░░░░ good sign MUNTEAN Well ░░░░░░░░ generally I mean it ░░░░░░░░ much thicker than the ░░░░░░░░ smoke It looks to ░░░░░░░░ like maybe the fire ░░░░░░░░ got there and were ░░░░░░░░ it out while we ░░░░░░░░ seeing some of this ░░░░░░░░ smoke imagery The black ░░░░░░░░ is usually the worst ░░░░░░░░ sign just because it ░░░░░░░░ much more thick and ░░░░░░░░ it seems to be ░░░░░░░░ burning But let s ░░░░░░░░ reset here on what ░░░░░░░░ FAA tells us American ░░░░░░░░ Flight 1006 landed safely ░░░░░░░░ Denver International Airport 05 ░░░░░░░░ local time That s ░░░░░░░░ 15 Mountain Time 07 ░░░░░░░░ on the East Coast ░░░░░░░░ Thursday Crew reported engine ░░░░░░░░ at some point in ░░░░░░░░ air They landed While ░░░░░░░░ to the gate an ░░░░░░░░ caught fire and passengers ░░░░░░░░ the aircraft using slides ░░░░░░░░ don t see the ░░░░░░░░ slides in these images ░░░░░░░░ I do see the ░░░░░░░░ from below the wing ░░░░░░░░ crew there at the ░░░░░░░░ on the ramp This ░░░░░░░░ a 737 800 according ░░░░░░░░ the FAA COLLINS Well ░░░░░░░░ if you freeze on ░░░░░░░░ image MUNTEAN Yes COLLINS ░░░░░░░░ mean you can still ░░░░░░░░ the fire on the ░░░░░░░░ of the plane MUNTEAN ░░░░░░░░ COLLINS as the people ░░░░░░░░ literally in the middle ░░░░░░░░ evacuating MUNTEAN And you ░░░░░░░░ see the overwing emergency ░░░░░░░░ They re open Folks ░░░░░░░░ out under the wing ░░░░░░░░ of this airplane We ░░░░░░░░ still sort of waiting ░░░░░░░░ get a little bit ░░░░░░░░ here from American Airlines ░░░░░░░░ have had an incredible ░░░░░░░░ here of incidents where ░░░░░░░░ ve had to respond ░░░░░░░░ these not only the ░░░░░░░░ crash that was American ░░░░░░░░ regional jet over the ░░░░░░░░ River not even just ░░░░░░░░ six weeks ago almost ░░░░░░░░ But now they re ░░░░░░░░ to deal with this ░░░░░░░░ so they re sort ░░░░░░░░ getting spooled up to ░░░░░░░░ us more information from ░░░░░░░░ airline We have the ░░░░░░░░ preliminary data right now ░░░░░░░░ the preliminary information right ░░░░░░░░ from the FAA And ░░░░░░░░ have the preliminary data ░░░░░░░░ FlightAware And we can ░░░░░░░░ that this flight was ░░░░░░░░ airborne and at least ░░░░░░░░ the Denver Airport once ░░░░░░░░ m going to pull ░░░░░░░░ up again COLLINS And ░░░░░░░░ to get pretty close ░░░░░░░░ to where the gate ░░░░░░░░ I ll let you ░░░░░░░░ up stuff Pete once ░░░░░░░░ MUNTEAN: “Sure.”
