MADDOW And joining us ░░░░░░░░ live is Governor Kathy ░░░░░░░░ of New York Governor ░░░░░░░░ really appreciate you making ░░░░░░░░ to be here Thank ░░░░░░░░ Tell us about this ░░░░░░░░ that you made when ░░░░░░░░ received this extradition order ░░░░░░░░ Louisiana How should people ░░░░░░░░ this country expect this ░░░░░░░░ to move forward How ░░░░░░░░ you expect the Louisiana ░░░░░░░░ to respond HOCHUL We ░░░░░░░░ this in place as ░░░░░░░░ as we heard about ░░░░░░░░ overturning of Roe v ░░░░░░░░ I needed to protect ░░░░░░░░ doctors because telemedicine is ░░░░░░░░ number one reason people ░░░░░░░░ get abortion pills and ░░░░░░░░ thirds of all abortions ░░░░░░░░ now by pills and ░░░░░░░░ ve been approved by ░░░░░░░░ FDA for 20 years ░░░░░░░░ s safe We have ░░░░░░░░ doctor who s trying ░░░░░░░░ help someone in another ░░░░░░░░ who s been denied ░░░░░░░░ right of control over ░░░░░░░░ own body just doing ░░░░░░░░ her oath requires her ░░░░░░░░ do and now she ░░░░░░░░ treated like a criminal ░░░░░░░░ was not a tough ░░░░░░░░ for me Rachel I ░░░░░░░░ No and hell no ░░░░░░░░ will never ever send ░░░░░░░░ person into harm s ░░░░░░░░ to stand for 15 ░░░░░░░░ of possible jail time ░░░░░░░░ just being a doctor ░░░░░░░░ that s what our ░░░░░░░░ has come to This ░░░░░░░░ the ripple effect of ░░░░░░░░ overturning of Roe v ░░░░░░░░ and the stacking of ░░░░░░░░ Supreme Court under the ░░░░░░░░ Trump Administration My mother ░░░░░░░░ generation fought for these ░░░░░░░░ My generation was able ░░░░░░░░ take them for granted ░░░░░░░░ they re not there ░░░░░░░░ my daughter s generation ░░░░░░░░ God we ve got ░░░░░░░░ stand up and fight ░░░░░░░░ let these women know ░░░░░░░░ I m sorry for ░░░░░░░░ sisters in these states ░░░░░░░░ they re being repressed ░░░░░░░░ we should not allow ░░░░░░░░ mandated pregnancies That s ░░░░░░░░ happens when women don ░░░░░░░░ have control of their ░░░░░░░░ bodies So we re ░░░░░░░░ proud to stand up ░░░░░░░░ women s rights here ░░░░░░░░ the state of New ░░░░░░░░ MADDOW I feel like ░░░░░░░░ ve been both anticipating ░░░░░░░░ for a long time ░░░░░░░░ you signed that shield ░░░░░░░░ because you knew this ░░░░░░░░ coming but I also ░░░░░░░░ very unsettled by the ░░░░░░░░ that it s on ░░░░░░░░ I really don t ░░░░░░░░ how this is going ░░░░░░░░ resolve I presume that ░░░░░░░░ re expecting this to ░░░░░░░░ up in federal court ░░░░░░░░ with the United States ░░░░░░░░ Court deciding the strength ░░░░░░░░ your shield law versus ░░░░░░░░ strength of Louisiana or ░░░░░░░░ Texas s ability to ░░░░░░░░ action against this New ░░░░░░░░ doctor despite the shield ░░░░░░░░ that where you think ░░░░░░░░ is going HOCHUL I ░░░░░░░░ it is because what ░░░░░░░░ ve set up was ░░░░░░░░ saying this goes back ░░░░░░░░ the individual states well ░░░░░░░░ have to stand up ░░░░░░░░ my state laws The ░░░░░░░░ that I signed in ░░░░░░░░ and again updated in ░░░░░░░░ says I have a ░░░░░░░░ a legal responsibility to ░░░░░░░░ this doctor and other ░░░░░░░░ who are exercising this ░░░░░░░░ of care for women ░░░░░░░░ out of state So ░░░░░░░░ it will probably end ░░░░░░░░ in another judicial litigation ░░░░░░░░ but we ve got ░░░░░░░░ we can t just ░░░░░░░░ over and play dead ░░░░░░░░ Rachel I mean what ░░░░░░░░ we supposed to do ░░░░░░░░ this happen No we ░░░░░░░░ got to fight for ░░░░░░░░ rights This is the ░░░░░░░░ where the women s ░░░░░░░░ movement started in 1848 ░░░░░░░░ had reproductive rights passed ░░░░░░░░ a Republican governor and ░░░░░░░░ legislature three years before ░░░░░░░░ v Wade Let s ░░░░░░░░ at that history and ░░░░░░░░ people start saying My ░░░░░░░░ how did this happen ░░░░░░░░ cannot have this And ░░░░░░░░ a governor I will ░░░░░░░░ stand up for the ░░░░░░░░ of my state.”
