BOLDUAN Joining me right ░░░░░░░░ is Dr Paul Offit ░░░░░░░░ s the director of ░░░░░░░░ Vaccine Education Center at ░░░░░░░░ s Hospital of Philadelphia ░░░░░░░░ Offit thanks for coming ░░░░░░░░ in You have been ░░░░░░░░ clear about how dangerous ░░░░░░░░ and so many other ░░░░░░░░ and public health experts ░░░░░░░░ RFK would be heading ░░░░░░░░ America s public health ░░░░░░░░ As this now moves ░░░░░░░░ a full Senate vote ░░░░░░░░ next week you call ░░░░░░░░ a sad day for ░░░░░░░░ health Why OFFIT Well ░░░░░░░░ think it s said ░░░░░░░░ me that Senator Cassidy ░░░░░░░░ that Robert F Kennedy ░░░░░░░░ Will be anybody other ░░░░░░░░ what he s been ░░░░░░░░ the last 20 years ░░░░░░░░ mean RFK Jr Has ░░░░░░░░ he thinks no vaccine ░░░░░░░░ a benefit He thinks ░░░░░░░░ cause autism When he ░░░░░░░░ a parent carrying a ░░░░░░░░ on a hiking trail ░░░░░░░░ running path he goes ░░░░░░░░ to them and says ░░░░░░░░ t vaccinate your child ░░░░░░░░ he is reassured that ░░░░░░░░ Jr Is going to ░░░░░░░░ somebody completely different than ░░░░░░░░ he s been for ░░░░░░░░ last 20 years This ░░░░░░░░ an anti vaccine advocate ░░░░░░░░ science denialist who now ░░░░░░░░ about to head the ░░░░░░░░ public health agency in ░░░░░░░░ United States I think ░░░░░░░░ was a sad day ░░░░░░░░ children in this country ░░░░░░░░ he appears to move ░░░░░░░░ into that position BOLDUAN ░░░░░░░░ Cassidy cares deeply about ░░░░░░░░ understands the value of ░░░░░░░░ and vaccinations That was ░░░░░░░░ huge part of the ░░░░░░░░ hearing and his questioning ░░░░░░░░ RFK with Cassidy saying ░░░░░░░░ will support him because ░░░░░░░░ commitments that he s ░░░░░░░░ from RFK and things ░░░░░░░░ saying He s committed ░░░░░░░░ an unprecedently close collaborative ░░░░░░░░ relationship between him and ░░░░░░░░ assures him Is that ░░░░░░░░ to you at all ░░░░░░░░ it be reassuring to ░░░░░░░░ OFFIT No it s ░░░░░░░░ RFK Jr Misrepresents things ░░░░░░░░ the time and he ░░░░░░░░ I mean he says ░░░░░░░░ example during that hearing ░░░░░░░░ he is confronted with ░░░░░░░░ that he s made ░░░░░░░░ confronted with things that ░░░░░░░░ s written he ll ░░░░░░░░ Well I never said ░░░░░░░░ I never wrote that ░░░░░░░░ in fact he did ░░░░░░░░ the evidence is there ░░░░░░░░ he did So he ░░░░░░░░ willing to say whatever ░░░░░░░░ needs to say to ░░░░░░░░ and get this position ░░░░░░░░ I just am surprised ░░░░░░░░ Sen Cassidy who told ░░░░░░░░ great story about how ░░░░░░░░ took care of a ░░░░░░░░ an adult patient who ░░░░░░░░ hepatitis B virus associated ░░░░░░░░ liver cancer And Robert ░░░░░░░░ Kennedy Jr Has said ░░░░░░░░ doesn t think the ░░░░░░░░ B vaccine works And ░░░░░░░░ he confronted him with ░░░░░░░░ And so the stories ░░░░░░░░ told were emotional and ░░░░░░░░ and heartfelt and he ░░░░░░░░ to believe that RFK ░░░░░░░░ Is not going to ░░░░░░░░ the exact same person ░░░░░░░░ s been for the ░░░░░░░░ 20 years And I ░░░░░░░░ think it s a ░░░░░░░░
