ACOSTA Good morning You ░░░░░░░░ live in the CNN ░░░░░░░░ I m Jim Acosta ░░░░░░░░ Washington We re following ░░░░░░░░ news from the Supreme ░░░░░░░░ The justices have just ░░░░░░░░ an opinion on the ░░░░░░░░ of TikTok Let me ░░░░░░░░ straight to Paula Reid ░░░░░░░░ is here in Washington ░░░░░░░░ me Paula what do ░░░░░░░░ know Reid Jim huge ░░░░░░░░ out of the Supreme ░░░░░░░░ as the justices uphold ░░░░░░░░ controversial ban on the ░░░░░░░░ media app TikTok Now ░░░░░░░░ justices signaled that they ░░░░░░░░ uphold this ban several ░░░░░░░░ ago when they had ░░░░░░░░ arguments This all started ░░░░░░░░ year in April when ░░░░░░░░ with broad bipartisan support ░░░░░░░░ that the app would ░░░░░░░░ banned if it didn ░░░░░░░░ divest from its parent ░░░░░░░░ ByteDance because of concerns ░░░░░░░░ that company s ties ░░░░░░░░ China It s a ░░░░░░░░ security concern that has ░░░░░░░░ expressed by presidents of ░░░░░░░░ parties Specifically the concern ░░░░░░░░ is that this app ░░░░░░░░ collecting data massive amounts ░░░░░░░░ data from all of ░░░░░░░░ users and then potentially ░░░░░░░░ data could be used ░░░░░░░░ the Chinese government especially ░░░░░░░░ the event of a ░░░░░░░░ to sow discord in ░░░░░░░░ country or otherwise jeopardize ░░░░░░░░ security Now TikTok they ░░░░░░░░ challenging this ban arguing ░░░░░░░░ this was a violation ░░░░░░░░ the First Amendment And ░░░░░░░░ they heard arguments a ░░░░░░░░ days ago it s ░░░░░░░░ rare day when you ░░░░░░░░ sort of a unanimous ░░░░░░░░ across the bench But ░░░░░░░░ was clear that the ░░░░░░░░ on both sides of ░░░░░░░░ aisle were skeptical about ░░░░░░░░ First Amendment argument So ░░░░░░░░ of now unless TikTok ░░░░░░░░ divests from its parent ░░░░░░░░ by Sunday this app ░░░░░░░░ be rendered inoperable for ░░░░░░░░ of its 170 million ░░░░░░░░ so far This is ░░░░░░░░ the biggest decision out ░░░░░░░░ the Supreme Court this ░░░░░░░░ Jim.”
