Giridharadas You know it ░░░░░░░░ like just a biopsy ░░░░░░░░ another America that is ░░░░░░░░ contemporary You know the ░░░░░░░░ of Gerald Ford and ░░░░░░░░ and the friendship that ░░░░░░░░ after political competition again ░░░░░░░░ t feel like a ░░░░░░░░ up story it felt ░░░░░░░░ a real story of ░░░░░░░░ kind of real relationships ░░░░░░░░ political difference that feels ░░░░░░░░ now The notion even ░░░░░░░░ how the Carter s ░░░░░░░░ after the presidency it ░░░░░░░░ now normal that all ░░░░░░░░ our presidents sort of ░░░░░░░░ multi gazillionaires doing deals ░░░░░░░░ the world and they ░░░░░░░░ the right to do ░░░░░░░░ but this was a ░░░░░░░░ different life a kind ░░░░░░░░ life we don t ░░░░░░░░ see people living anymore ░░░░░░░░ don t see these ░░░░░░░░ of President Carter going ░░░░░░░░ the aisle and back ░░░░░░░░ his seat 39E of ░░░░░░░░ back of an airplane ░░░░░░░░ shaking everybody s hand ░░░░░░░░ just was this it ░░░░░░░░ watching this Washington power ░░░░░░░░ in the room and ░░░░░░░░ person who is completely ░░░░░░░░ from that power establishment ░░░░░░░░ in many ways lived ░░░░░░░░ life on very different ░░░░░░░░ And I will say ░░░░░░░░ just the fear of ░░░░░░░░ former presidents with President ░░░░░░░░ I mean as always ░░░░░░░░ gets at something very ░░░░░░░░ There was something strange ░░░░░░░░ m with Mika I ░░░░░░░░ civility and kindness is ░░░░░░░░ and there was something ░░░░░░░░ about seeing multiple leaders ░░░░░░░░ have warned that this ░░░░░░░░ is dictatorship on the ░░░░░░░░ this guy is fascism ░░░░░░░░ the horizon this guy ░░░░░░░░ the end of the ░░░░░░░░ experiment and now just ░░░░░░░░ of the rituals of ░░░░░░░░ funeral it is normalized ░░░░░░░░ default We are just ░░░░░░░░ there well I guess ░░░░░░░░ are just sitting and ░░░░░░░░ small talk with the ░░░░░░░░ who we have said ░░░░░░░░ going to end everything ░░░░░░░░ s very strange I ░░░░░░░░ not sure what the ░░░░░░░░ is but it was ░░░░░░░░ surreal moment for that ░░░░░░░░ other reasons SCARBOROUGH Well ░░░░░░░░ by the way you ░░░░░░░░ not just sitting talking ░░░░░░░░ the guy who said ░░░░░░░░ of those things during ░░░░░░░░ campaign you are sitting ░░░░░░░░ talking to a guy ░░░░░░░░ 77 78 million Americans ░░░░░░░░ they wanted him to ░░░░░░░░ the next president He ░░░░░░░░ the representative of the ░░░░░░░░ people who voted for ░░░░░░░░ So that is who ░░░░░░░░ are sitting next to ░░░░░░░░ when Barack Obama was ░░░░░░░░ to Donald Trump and ░░░░░░░░ civil and they were ░░░░░░░░ back and forth you ░░░░░░░░ that is again Andrew ░░░░░░░░ s story cuts to ░░░░░░░░ You don t just ░░░░░░░░ to people with whom ░░░░░░░░ agree and you don ░░░░░░░░ just talk to people ░░░░░░░░ whom you find morally ░░░░░░░░ with you You talk ░░░░░░░░ people who you have ░░░░░░░░ into terrible political fights ░░░░░░░░ And that is what ░░░░░░░░ and Carter was about ░░░░░░░░ I know it s ░░░░░░░░ the same thing blah ░░░░░░░░ blah but that is ░░░░░░░░ message that I think ░░░░░░░░ Obama was sending.”
