California Resident: The Response Time to the Wildfires ‘Was So Deficient and Unfortunate’

MCBRIDE We re joined ░░░░░░░░ by a California resident ░░░░░░░░ was forced to evacuate ░░░░░░░░ home in Pacific Palisades ░░░░░░░░ Darvish Rachel I can ░░░░░░░░ imagine what you ve ░░░░░░░░ through in the last ░░░░░░░░ days If you could ░░░░░░░░ take me through what ░░░░░░░░ happened DARVISH Morning Thanks ░░░░░░░░ much for having me ░░░░░░░░ d like to preface ░░░░░░░░ comments if that s ░░░░░░░░ by just addressing the ░░░░░░░░ that this is happening ░░░░░░░░ you whether you are ░░░░░░░░ Democrat or Republican independent ░░░░░░░░ you want And so ░░░░░░░░ comments that I make ░░░░░░░░ d like for the ░░░░░░░░ to be taken as ░░░░░░░░ made by a human ░░░░░░░░ mean I m watching ░░░░░░░░ burn people s homes ░░░░░░░░ re not burning Democrats ░░░░░░░░ MCBRIDE Yes DARVISH They ░░░░░░░░ not burning Republicans homes ░░░░░░░░ didn t vote for ░░░░░░░░ Bass I did not ░░░░░░░░ for her It has ░░░░░░░░ to do with what ░░░░░░░░ ve done or what ░░░░░░░░ has done What is ░░░░░░░░ now is is when ░░░░░░░░ was at my house ░░░░░░░░ peacefully working and turning ░░░░░░░░ and getting a notification ░░░░░░░░ out of my house ░░░░░░░░ seeing the blazes that ░░░░░░░░ see on on the ░░░░░░░░ right now what is ░░░░░░░░ to me is is ░░░░░░░░ the response time was ░░░░░░░░ deficient and unfortunate that ░░░░░░░░ have an an enormous ░░░░░░░░ of damage that could ░░░░░░░░ been avoided That s ░░░░░░░░ unfortunate part The other ░░░░░░░░ part about this is ░░░░░░░░ m a native I ░░░░░░░░ born and raised in ░░░░░░░░ Palisades And to go ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ that s going to ░░░░░░░░ possible You are looking ░░░░░░░░ the elimination of years ░░░░░░░░ years of people s ░░░░░░░░ hard work just enjoying ░░░░░░░░ Yeah DARVISH each other ░░░░░░░░ this town Unfortunately we ░░░░░░░░ leaders that need to ░░░░░░░░ held accountable for what ░░░░░░░░ The buck starts and ░░░░░░░░ with the mayor That ░░░░░░░░ something that we all ░░░░░░░░ There is there is ░░░░░░░░ around that So I ░░░░░░░░ disappointed to see the ░░░░░░░░ Karen Bass to ignore ░░░░░░░░ for for acknowledgement of ░░░░░░░░ she s done That ░░░░░░░░ disappointing as well I ░░░░░░░░ go on and on ░░░░░░░░ fire hydrants why wasn ░░░░░░░░ there any water in ░░░░░░░░ fire hydrants When I ░░░░░░░░ leaving my home which ░░░░░░░░ at around 11 11 ░░░░░░░░ I didn t get ░░░░░░░░ evacuation notice I did ░░░░░░░░ see a fire truck ░░░░░░░░ wasn t able to ░░░░░░░░ a notification from from ░░░░░░░░ Bass s office telling ░░░░░░░░ to leave I went ░░░░░░░░ that s what I ░░░░░░░░ I saw what you ░░░░░░░░ seeing on the screen ░░░░░░░░ now And I couldn ░░░░░░░░ have my family be ░░░░░░░░ by poor decisions So ░░░░░░░░ had to make the ░░░░░░░░ to rush out of ░░░░░░░░ on my own MCBRIDE ░░░░░░░░ I can t imagine ░░░░░░░░ you re going through ░░░░░░░░ you know is your ░░░░░░░░ still standing your neighborhood ░░░░░░░░ you gotten any word ░░░░░░░░ all DARVISH We have ░░░░░░░░ many courageous people that ░░░░░░░░ going into these these ░░░░░░░░ to give people like ░░░░░░░░ an indication of whether ░░░░░░░░ home is still there ░░░░░░░░ not I have seen ░░░░░░░░ video but I have ░░░░░░░░ official confirmation I ve ░░░░░░░░ partial of of the ░░░░░░░░ I ve seen None ░░░░░░░░ have no official confirmation ░░░░░░░░ my structure is there ░░░░░░░░ I can tell you ░░░░░░░░ in the hours that ░░░░░░░░ has happened I took ░░░░░░░░ 30 minutes to doze ░░░░░░░░ And in that 30 ░░░░░░░░ I got notification that ░░░░░░░░ other friends had lost ░░░░░░░░ So this is not ░░░░░░░░ me it s not ░░░░░░░░ my neighbor it s ░░░░░░░░ all of us MCBRIDE ░░░░░░░░ DARVISH And what are ░░░░░░░░ going to do to ░░░░░░░░ our community back That ░░░░░░░░ the next question MCBRIDE ░░░░░░░░ And all those questions ░░░░░░░░ to be asked of ░░░░░░░░ as you said to ░░░░░░░░ Bass and Gavin Newsom ░░░░░░░░ well They have to ░░░░░░░░ held accountable Again I ░░░░░░░░ can t get past ░░░░░░░░ there was no water ░░░░░░░░ those fire hydrants So ░░░░░░░░ issues And as you ░░░░░░░░ could have been prevented ░░░░░░░░ really appreciate you coming ░░░░░░░░ and telling your story ░░░░░░░░ of luck to you ░░░░░░░░ re thinking of you ░░░░░░░░ Thanks for having me.”
