Los Angeles county is ░░░░░░░░ Mass evacuations right now ░░░░░░░░ three wildfires tear through ░░░░░░░░ area leaving thousands of ░░░░░░░░ scorched dozens of homes ░░░░░░░░ businesses are believed have ░░░░░░░░ been destroyed by the ░░░░░░░░ dire warnings have been ░░░░░░░░ with officials saying there ░░░░░░░░ an immediate threat to ░░░░░░░░ in several towns Fox ░░░░░░░░ Channel s Carly shimkus ░░░░░░░░ that update or that ░░░░░░░░ breaking news alert on ░░░░░░░░ dramatic and chaotic and ░░░░░░░░ catastrophic uh event taking ░░░░░░░░ in Southern California right ░░░░░░░░ the visuals of this ░░░░░░░░ sweeping over neighborhoods is ░░░░░░░░ that I have ever ░░░░░░░░ before and we want ░░░░░░░░ talk to our friend ░░░░░░░░ murck about it right ░░░░░░░░ dry it s good ░░░░░░░░ have you back on ░░░░░░░░ show of course you ░░░░░░░░ nationally syndicated columnist a ░░░░░░░░ News contributor but these ░░░░░░░░ wildfires as I understand ░░░░░░░░ hit a bit close ░░░░░░░░ home for you uh ░░░░░░░░ no doubt about that ░░░░░░░░ happy New Year I ░░░░░░░░ t know if that ░░░░░░░░ really the appropriate phrase ░░░░░░░░ use today but it ░░░░░░░░ first speaking in 2025 ░░░░░░░░ what a what a ░░░░░░░░ an unfortunate start to ░░░░░░░░ year we ve had ░░░░░░░░ far and and yeah ░░░░░░░░ fires are quite personal ░░░░░░░░ me I grew up ░░░░░░░░ Los Angeles as you ░░░░░░░░ know and specifically I ░░░░░░░░ to Palisades High School ░░░░░░░░ which is right in ░░░░░░░░ middle of all the ░░░░░░░░ uh in Mayhem we ░░░░░░░░ seeing right now um ░░░░░░░░ m not exactly certain ░░░░░░░░ the status of of ░░░░░░░░ High School is at ░░░░░░░░ moment uh I think ░░░░░░░░ same as Palisades Charter ░░░░░░░░ School or is that ░░░░░░░░ correct same when I ░░░░░░░░ there it was called ░░░░░░░░ high school then it ░░░░░░░░ changed to Pal Charter ░░░░░░░░ there s actually a ░░░░░░░░ News Alert that says ░░░░░░░░ the that it has ░░░░░░░░ destroyed cuz it listed ░░░░░░░░ s listed as being ░░░░░░░░ in the movie Carrie ░░░░░░░░ Freaky Friday and it ░░░░░░░░ that the fire has ░░░░░░░░ reached it I m ░░░░░░░░ to say that to ░░░░░░░░ uh well thanks for ░░░░░░░░ update it s obviously ░░░░░░░░ changing situation but yeah ░░░░░░░░ t Freaky Friday Freaky ░░░░░░░░ uh and a number ░░░░░░░░ other pictures and uh ░░░░░░░░ s a beautiful was ░░░░░░░░ say was a beautiful ░░░░░░░░ but U because of ░░░░░░░░ lovely weather rather than ░░░░░░░░ kind of a closed ░░░░░░░░ uh you basically have ░░░░░░░░ big big um U ░░░░░░░░ all over the place ░░░░░░░░ big wide hallways and ░░░░░░░░ the classrooms which open ░░░░░░░░ the onto the U ░░░░░░░░ hallways open air hallways ░░░░░░░░ open air you know ░░░░░░░░ Terraces Verandas and so ░░░░░░░░ so very physically open ░░░░░░░░ lots of sunshine palm ░░░░░░░░ when I was there ░░░░░░░░ of 1982 I was ░░░░░░░░ between 1979 and 1982 ░░░░░░░░ we had uh you ░░░░░░░░ wonderful time great weather ░░░░░░░░ it was just almost ░░░░░░░░ you know a beach ░░░░░░░░ where they happen to ░░░░░░░░ some classes from the ░░░░░░░░ floor uh classrooms you ░░░░░░░░ look down to mesal ░░░░░░░░ you may have seen ░░░░░░░░ Canyon Road on some ░░░░░░░░ the coverage and look ░░░░░░░░ down at Will Rogers ░░░░░░░░ and see the waves ░░░░░░░░ up on the shore ░░░░░░░░ and some of the ░░░░░░░░ would say well the ░░░░░░░░ waves are a little ░░░░░░░░ big to miss so ░░░░░░░░ re just going to ░░░░░░░░ to skip algebra class ░░░░░░░░ whatever it might be ░░░░░░░░ go down and surf ░░░░░░░░ a couple hours and ░░░░░░░░ know come back and ░░░░░░░░ out some way to ░░░░░░░░ a you get an ░░░░░░░░ in the parent or ░░░░░░░░ falsify one or what ░░░░░░░░ you so anyway it ░░░░░░░░ a wonderful place to ░░░░░░░░ to school and um ░░░░░░░░ part of uh La ░░░░░░░░ very um Scenic and ░░░░░░░░ and lovely and um ░░░░░░░░ it s just very ░░░░░░░░ it s excruciating watch ░░░░░░░░ footage and see that ░░░░░░░░ know so well just ░░░░░░░░ demolished well Dy we ░░░░░░░░ speaking you know here ░░░░░░░░ St Louis I was ░░░░░░░░ a little bit in ░░░░░░░░ first segment about how ░░░░░░░░ we are very familiar ░░░░░░░░ tornadoes we are right ░░░░░░░░ the New Madrid fault ░░░░░░░░ we ve been hearing ░░░░░░░░ at decades about the ░░░░░░░░ earthquake that is eventually ░░░░░░░░ to happen it hasn ░░░░░░░░ happened yet but it ░░░░░░░░ a top of mind ░░░░░░░░ for people who are ░░░░░░░░ here uh and have ░░░░░░░░ for some time I ░░░░░░░░ never lived in California ░░░░░░░░ I have visited several ░░░░░░░░ that area of the ░░░░░░░░ I got to think ░░░░░░░░ people are aware of ░░░░░░░░ threat existing of wildfires ░░░░░░░░ I m wondering should ░░░░░░░░ have been more preparation ░░░░░░░░ push back against what ░░░░░░░░ happening or maybe it ░░░░░░░░ possible that this is ░░░░░░░░ so magnificently awful that ░░░░░░░░ got out of hand ░░░░░░░░ it could get under ░░░░░░░░ well this um is ░░░░░░░░ magnificently awful um it ░░░░░░░░ unusual to have it ░░░░░░░░ not that unusual and ░░░░░░░░ winds which come in ░░░░░░░░ the desert uh sometimes ░░░░░░░░ they re low low ░░░░░░░░ it can be quite ░░░░░░░░ you basically get a ░░░░░░░░ you get days up ░░░░░░░░ the 80s and 90s ░░░░░░░░ very very dry the ░░░░░░░░ the smog and and ░░░░░░░░ Marine layer and haze ░░░░░░░░ blow off the sea ░░░░░░░░ you get incredibly beautiful ░░░░░░░░ days uh you know ░░░░░░░░ can see forever and ░░░░░░░░ at night you d ░░░░░░░░ it s like being ░░░░░░░░ planetarium all the stars ░░░░░░░░ out and there s ░░░░░░░░ very nice sort of ░░░░░░░░ almost static electricity kind ░░░░░░░░ crackle in the air ░░░░░░░░ think if it s ░░░░░░░░ mild sand is lovely ░░░░░░░░ it gets up into ░░░░░░░░ 6070s 80s 90s it ░░░░░░░░ another story and because ░░░░░░░░ the very low humidity ░░░░░░░░ the wind fires break ░░░░░░░░ and then they just ░░░░░░░░ uh turbocharged like what ░░░░░░░░ re seeing right now ░░░░░░░░ I think certainly what ░░░░░░░░ have happened and I ░░░░░░░░ has not been happening ░░░░░░░░ that there should be ░░░░░░░░ in times where you ░░░░░░░░ t have winds blowing ░░░░░░░░ be controlled fires they ░░░░░░░░ to uh uh reduce ░░░░░░░░ go in and take ░░░░░░░░ vegetation out and that ░░░░░░░░ of thing and um ░░░░░░░░ many cases that s ░░░░░░░░ not been done in ░░░░░░░░ years or decades and ░░░░░░░░ you get all this ░░░░░░░░ uh potential fuel that ░░░░░░░░ fire and you get ░░░░░░░░ you re seeing on ░░░░░░░░ TV screens today what ░░░░░░░░ um these people who ░░░░░░░░ fleeing obviously there s ░░░░░░░░ neighborhoods that are here ░░░░░░░░ s not like this ░░░░░░░░ something that people there ░░░░░░░░ because it s they ░░░░░░░░ been there for a ░░░░░░░░ time uh what does ░░░░░░░░ look like for these ░░░░░░░░ who are losing everything ░░░░░░░░ than you know God ░░░░░░░░ they manag to save ░░░░░░░░ lives what happens in ░░░░░░░░ recovery here uh listen ░░░░░░░░ ve been hearing from ░░░░░░░░ of mine know people ░░░░░░░░ the area but uh ░░░░░░░░ basically Sunset Boulevard from ░░░░░░░░ muli going all the ░░░░░░░░ west to the coast ░░░░░░░░ winding roads with Mansions ░░░░░░░░ side all that apparently ░░░░░░░░ been burned uh to ░░░░░░░░ ground uh there s ░░░░░░░░ Gelson s Market near ░░░░░░░░ stats high school that ░░░░░░░░ gone there s a ░░░░░░░░ s a whole bunch ░░░░░░░░ other shops and other ░░░░░░░░ been burned down um ░░░░░░░░ below sunset uh sort ░░░░░░░░ the uh Riviera Palisades ░░░░░░░░ out down towards shitaka ░░░░░░░░ you know where that ░░░░░░░░ that apparently is burned ░░░░░░░░ the ground so I ░░░░░░░░ I think there apparently ░░░░░░░░ thousand homes that have ░░░░░░░░ destroyed people I guess ░░░░░░░░ re going to try ░░░░░░░░ rebuild but that s ░░░░░░░░ very expensive part of ░░░░░░░░ uh uh of the ░░░░░░░░ uh these homes start ░░░░░░░░ two and three million ░░░░░░░░ up um I we ░░░░░░░░ see what happens with ░░░░░░░░ with the insurance companies ░░░░░░░░ mean if I were ░░░░░░░░ president of U All ░░░░░░░░ or mut of Omaha ░░░░░░░░ would be biting my ░░░░░░░░ big time right now ░░░░░░░░ these are going to ░░░░░░░░ some major insurance claims ░░░░░░░░ uh you know I ░░░░░░░░ some people will rebuild ░░░░░░░░ it s going to ░░░░░░░░ a long time but ░░░░░░░░ part of the beauty ░░░░░░░░ that area is the ░░░░░░░░ uh many cases old ░░░░░░░░ uh beautiful trees lovely ░░░░░░░░ it s it s ░░░░░░░░ to take you know ░░░░░░░░ and years and years ░░░░░░░░ put all that back ░░░░░░░░ and and have it ░░░░░░░░ anywhere like it uh ░░░░░░░░ it did yesterday the ░░░░░░░░ before Jory Murdoch speaking ░░░░░░░░ us right now Fox ░░░░░░░░ contributor nationally syndicated of ░░░░░░░░ and also project 21 ░░░░░░░░ I I want to ░░░░░░░░ to you about not ░░░░░░░░ necessarily politics leading into ░░░░░░░░ uh catastrophe but politics ░░░░░░░░ have something to do ░░░░░░░░ what happens after this ░░░░░░░░ for people who are ░░░░░░░░ gosh do I want ░░░░░░░░ down that route cuz ░░░░░░░░ if if you were ░░░░░░░░ going to leave a ░░░░░░░░ after all of this ░░░░░░░░ might be the thing ░░░░░░░░ makes you say all ░░░░░░░░ you know everything that ░░░░░░░░ had here that is ░░░░░░░░ now I m going ░░░░░░░░ have to reestablish Roots ░░░░░░░░ do you what is ░░░░░░░░ advice to the governor ░░░░░░░░ of the State of ░░░░░░░░ and the people who ░░░░░░░░ running these more local ░░░░░░░░ right now because California ░░░░░░░░ t seem to be ░░░░░░░░ most you know comfortable ░░░░░░░░ economically over regulated place ░░░░░░░░ live you you raised ░░░░░░░░ very good point Annie ░░░░░░░░ is if you have ░░░░░░░░ situation like this that ░░░░░░░░ people you really puts ░░░░░░░░ in the fork of ░░░░░░░░ road you know do ░░░░░░░░ want to spend the ░░░░░░░░ and energy to clean ░░░░░░░░ the mess uh get ░░░░░░░░ hire an architect hire ░░░░░░░░ contractor build the house ░░░░░░░░ you going to live ░░░░░░░░ the meantime do you ░░░░░░░░ in a hotel for ░░░░░░░░ years while you rebuild ░░░░░░░░ house Etc or you ░░░░░░░░ you know what um ░░░░░░░░ Beach is looking pretty ░░░░░░░░ or I m off ░░░░░░░░ Nashville or gee maybe ░░░░░░░░ s time to go ░░░░░░░░ Austin whatever it might ░░░░░░░░ and um I think ░░░░░░░░ lot of people are ░░░░░░░░ to have that choice ░░░░░░░░ lot of say you ░░░░░░░░ what it s just ░░░░░░░░ worth it I m ░░░░░░░░ of here especially if ░░░░░░░░ you look at things ░░░░░░░░ the uh lack of ░░░░░░░░ for the fires apparently ░░░░░░░░ U uh the uh ░░░░░░░░ that feed the water ░░░░░░░░ have been not replenished ░░░░░░░░ enough so the firefighters ░░░░░░░░ Out of Water uh ░░░░░░░░ mayor of Los Angeles ░░░░░░░░ Bass she s not ░░░░░░░░ at City Hall maybe ░░░░░░░░ s there now but ░░░░░░░░ this thing erupted she ░░░░░░░░ t even in California ░░░░░░░░ was in the United ░░░░░░░░ she was in Ghana ░░░░░░░░ all places a lot ░░░░░░░░ people are like okay ░░░░░░░░ are you why are ░░░░░░░░ in GH while we ░░░░░░░░ burning the ground so ░░░░░░░░ lack of leadership I ░░░░░░░░ will probably lead some ░░░░░░░░ get up and leave ░░░░░░░░ would say what I ░░░░░░░░ say to Karen Bass ░░░░░░░░ to Gavin Newsome if ░░░░░░░░ ve got people who ░░░░░░░░ in that situation you ░░░░░░░░ to give them every ░░░░░░░░ to stick around that ░░░░░░░░ um more easy uh ░░░░░░░░ access to permits uh ░░░░░░░░ approvals if they if ░░░░░░░░ decision is no you ░░░░░░░░ t build for whatever ░░░░░░░░ at least give people ░░░░░░░░ quick answer and then ░░░░░░░░ know we re thinking ░░░░░░░░ it we re thinking ░░░░░░░░ it you can t ░░░░░░░░ an answer one way ░░░░░░░░ other hopefully it s ░░░░░░░░ yes but if it ░░░░░░░░ no make it a ░░░░░░░░ no and then make ░░░░░░░░ um uh as easy ░░░░░░░░ possible to hire people ░░░░░░░░ people in place and ░░░░░░░░ for those who want ░░░░░░░░ rebuild you know don ░░░░░░░░ make the road any ░░░░░░░░ make the road flatter ░░░░░░░░ them and I don ░░░░░░░░ know people like Gavin ░░░░░░░░ and and Karen Bass ░░░░░░░░ you know if they ░░░░░░░░ wired that way they ░░░░░░░░ they re wired generally ░░░░░░░░ say no rather than ░░░░░░░░ say yes unfortunately they ░░░░░░░░ going to have to ░░░░░░░░ that if they want ░░░░░░░░ get people to stick ░░░░░░░░ and rebuild is supposed ░░░░░░░░ pack up and um ░░░░░░░░ know take take the ░░░░░░░░ flight to uh Florida ░░░░░░░░ or uh Tennessee yeah ░░░░░░░░ mean you don t ░░░░░░░░ have to pack your ░░░░░░░░ because the things are ░░░░░░░░ I m I live ░░░░░░░░ to pack yeah dy ░░░░░░░░ live in the state ░░░░░░░░ Illinois and I work ░░░░░░░░ in the state of ░░░░░░░░ and it s such ░░░░░░░░ stark difference in the ░░░░░░░░ business is done just ░░░░░░░░ an Illinois regulatory process ░░░░░░░░ want to you know ░░░░░░░░ a deck on your ░░░░░░░░ it s super complicated ░░░░░░░░ do it in one ░░░░░░░░ it s less complicated ░░░░░░░░ do it in another ░░░░░░░░ homes and permitting and ░░░░░░░░ know in I I ░░░░░░░░ I ve been looking ░░░░░░░░ building a home and ░░░░░░░░ kind of insulation you ░░░░░░░░ to have in Illinois ░░░░░░░░ different than what you ░░░░░░░░ to have in Missouri ░░░░░░░░ Illinois I sometimes feel ░░░░░░░░ Illinois is the test ░░░░░░░░ for for Liberal left ░░░░░░░░ crazy because people don ░░░░░░░░ pay attention to it ░░░░░░░░ the way they might ░░░░░░░░ attention to it on ░░░░░░░░ East Coast or in ░░░░░░░░ but if you want ░░░░░░░░ talk about regulatory measures ░░░░░░░░ like where do the ░░░░░░░░ of what kind of ░░░░░░░░ you can have in ░░░░░░░░ house or what kind ░░░░░░░░ uh shower faucet can ░░░░░░░░ have this this stuff ░░░░░░░░ comes out of California ░░░░░░░░ do how do you ░░░░░░░░ a thousand new homes ░░░░░░░░ all of this red ░░░░░░░░ is in the way ░░░░░░░░ I think that there ░░░░░░░░ going to be some ░░░░░░░░ of political Reckoning that ░░░░░░░░ place in the wake ░░░░░░░░ this because in Mass ░░░░░░░░ re going to see ░░░░░░░░ punitive over regulatory babysitter ░░░░░░░░ actually is well there ░░░░░░░░ two points one is ░░░░░░░░ you say if people ░░░░░░░░ you know hey we ░░░░░░░░ going to stick around ░░░░░░░░ re going to rebuild ░░░░░░░░ really love the Palisades ░░░░░░░░ re going to make ░░░░░░░░ effort to stay here ░░░░░░░░ then you ve got ░░░░░░░░ buy this particular stove ░░░░░░░░ that particular refrigerator and ░░░░░░░░ kind of dishwasher very ░░░░░░░░ they re more expensive ░░░░░░░░ the standard models and ░░░░░░░░ also don t often ░░░░░░░░ t work as well ░░░░░░░░ the standard models um ░░░░░░░░ that s one problem ░░░░░░░░ other problem is uh ░░░░░░░░ Gavin Newsome and Karen ░░░░░░░░ should have been saying ░░░░░░░░ we want to get ░░░░░░░░ in the hills to ░░░░░░░░ cut that uh brush ░░░░░░░░ you know peel back ░░░░░░░░ on the uh on ░░░░░░░░ vegetation you let s ░░░░░░░░ the fuel out of ░░░░░░░░ so that we if ░░░░░░░░ had a fire it ░░░░░░░░ a small fire not ░░░░░░░░ Armageddon uh but instead ░░░░░░░░ focused on that we ░░░░░░░░ focused on oh you ░░░░░░░░ to have this kind ░░░░░░░░ a shower and you ░░░░░░░░ to have electric vehicle ░░░░░░░░ and know that dishwasher ░░░░░░░░ too much energy and ░░░░░░░░ need to have this ░░░░░░░░ of of a microwave ░░░░░░░░ you got to have ░░░░░░░░ kind of stove and ░░░░░░░░ spend all this time ░░░░░░░░ you know let s ░░░░░░░░ things quote unquote sustainable ░░░░░░░░ I m looking at ░░░░░░░░ right now it doesn ░░░░░░░░ look like it s ░░░░░░░░ sustained looks like it ░░░░░░░░ being destroyed I really ░░░░░░░░ these people focused on ░░░░░░░░ do we keep this ░░░░░░░░ place safe and attack ░░░░░░░░ than engaging in in ░░░░░░░░ of green virtue signaling ░░░░░░░░ now has led to ░░░░░░░░ lot of black smoke ░░░░░░░░ and destruction in Mayhem ░░░░░░░░ and it ll be ░░░░░░░░ I I don t ░░░░░░░░ if I don t ░░░░░░░░ if these these governmental ░░░░░░░░ have it in them ░░░░░░░░ religion is their is ░░░░░░░░ regul like the regulatory ░░░░░░░░ is how they worship ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ they re going to ░░░░░░░░ it in them to ░░░░░░░░ it palatable now you ░░░░░░░░ t go to Tennessee ░░░░░░░░ get the pal Palisades ░░░░░░░░ understand that um so ░░░░░░░░ the the landscape God ░░░░░░░░ will be restored and ░░░░░░░░ people will be able ░░░░░░░░ figure it out but ░░░░░░░░ think there will be ░░░░░░░░ lot of interest going ░░░░░░░░ as to how they ░░░░░░░░ able to build that ░░░░░░░░ getting so much in ░░░░░░░░ way of the poor ░░░░░░░░ who are losing everything ░░░░░░░░ we speak I really ░░░░░░░░ you re right about ░░░░░░░░ you know again um ░░░░░░░░ you we re sort ░░░░░░░░ both indicating I don ░░░░░░░░ know if if if ░░░░░░░░ uh those brain cells ░░░░░░░░ in the in the ░░░░░░░░ of uh Gavin Nome ░░░░░░░░ Karen Bass and even ░░░░░░░░ those two the uh ░░░░░░░░ uh State Legislature uh ░░░░░░░░ makes Gavin Newsome look ░░░░░░░░ a little bit like ░░░░░░░░ not Ronald Reagan maybe ░░░░░░░░ Mitt Romney and I ░░░░░░░░ the LA City Council ░░░░░░░░ probably to the left ░░░░░░░░ Karen Bass which is ░░░░░░░░ left that s wild ░░░░░░░░ you know the the ░░░░░░░░ and and local and ░░░░░░░░ state legislators are no ░░░░░░░░ um but in it ░░░░░░░░ perhaps in a situation ░░░░░░░░ this which is so ░░░░░░░░ and so severe and ░░░░░░░░ dramatic and so horrible ░░░░░░░░ they ll Sor maybe ░░░░░░░░ should take our take ░░░░░░░░ boots off people s ░░░░░░░░ a little bit and ░░░░░░░░ them breathe and hope ░░░░░░░░ that gets that encourages ░░░░░░░░ to stick around rather ░░░░░░░░ um as you say ░░░░░░░░ s nothing to pack ░░░░░░░░ s all Trump tr s agenda ░░░░░░░░ uh to restore the ░░░░░░░░ of of deregulation that ░░░░░░░░ saw in his first ░░░░░░░░ uh so that s ░░░░░░░░ think provide would provide ░░░░░░░░ lot of potential uh ░░░░░░░░ um he wants to ░░░░░░░░ rid of all these ░░░░░░░░ know um gas stove ░░░░░░░░ if you want to ░░░░░░░░ gas stove you can ░░░░░░░░ a gas stove so ░░░░░░░░ you re rebuilding a ░░░░░░░░ you can spend money ░░░░░░░░ less money for gas ░░░░░░░░ that works as opposed ░░░░░░░░ a lot of money ░░░░░░░░ electric stove is probably ░░░░░░░░ expensive to install more ░░░░░░░░ to operate uh but ░░░░░░░░ addition to that uh ░░░░░░░░ J Trump is a ░░░░░░░░ bully pulpit in addition ░░░░░░░░ whatever he can do ░░░░░░░░ terms of federal regulations ░░░░░░░░ m sure he will ░░░░░░░░ make it very well ░░░░░░░░ clearly
