Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky on Massive Winter Storm: ‘Haven’t Had this Much Snow in Over 25 Years’

JANSING Meantime in Kentucky ░░░░░░░░ police have reported more ░░░░░░░░ 170 crashes so far ░░░░░░░░ the Public Works Department ░░░░░░░░ Louisville posted this video ░░░░░░░░ their snow team clearing ░░░░░░░░ roads but even that ░░░░░░░░ pose challenges Clip starts ░░░░░░░░ And the plow trucks ░░░░░░░░ through and pounded back ░░░░░░░░ up against the car ░░░░░░░░ UNKNOWN 2 But half ░░░░░░░░ inch of ice on ░░░░░░░░ whole car kind of ░░░░░░░░ it a little challenging ░░░░░░░░ ends JANSING Anybody who ░░░░░░░░ ever been in a ░░░░░░░░ area knows what that ░░░░░░░░ like I want to ░░░░░░░░ in the mayor of ░░░░░░░░ Kentucky Craig Greenberg Thanks ░░░░░░░░ much for joining us ░░░░░░░░ are things looking in ░░░░░░░░ city right now Greenberg ░░░░░░░░ are looking much better ░░░░░░░░ they were 24 hours ░░░░░░░░ Our teams have been ░░░░░░░░ round the clock for ░░░░░░░░ straight hours Hundreds of ░░░░░░░░ that have plowed and ░░░░░░░░ 9 000 miles of ░░░░░░░░ roads here in Louisville ░░░░░░░░ million pounds of salt ░░░░░░░░ been put on our ░░░░░░░░ plus the plows So ░░░░░░░░ we re getting back ░░░░░░░░ today and we re ░░░░░░░░ to stay at it ░░░░░░░░ at it to get ░░░░░░░░ kids back in school ░░░░░░░░ get the city moving ░░░░░░░░ But we haven t ░░░░░░░░ this much snow in ░░░░░░░░ 25 years in Louisville ░░░░░░░░ I m very thankful ░░░░░░░░ all the hard work ░░░░░░░░ the dedicated public servants ░░░░░░░░ have on our snow ░░░░░░░░ here JANSING Do you ░░░░░░░░ a sense of a ░░░░░░░░ here I mean for ░░░░░░░░ how many people still ░░░░░░░░ t have power Are ░░░░░░░░ shelters open for people ░░░░░░░░ don t have power ░░░░░░░░ We were very fortunate ░░░░░░░░ we got historic amounts ░░░░░░░░ snow on Sunday night ░░░░░░░░ didn t get as ░░░░░░░░ freezing rain and therefore ░░░░░░░░ as much ice as ░░░░░░░░ predicted And so we ░░░░░░░░ fewer power outages which ░░░░░░░░ a good thing That ░░░░░░░░ very helpful We do ░░░░░░░░ warming centers open We ░░░░░░░░ have shelters that are ░░░░░░░░ We re providing transportation ░░░░░░░░ individuals who need a ░░░░░░░░ to get out of ░░░░░░░░ elements We re going ░░░░░░░░ continue to do that ░░░░░░░░ this entire week because ░░░░░░░░ though the snow and ░░░░░░░░ may have ended we ░░░░░░░░ dealing with freezing cold ░░░░░░░░ for at least the ░░░░░░░░ of the week Mother ░░░░░░░░ isn t helping us ░░░░░░░░ with the cleanup from ░░░░░░░░ storm JANSING So no ░░░░░░░░ snow coming though Greenberg ░░░░░░░░ are going to get ░░░░░░░░ little bit more snow ░░░░░░░░ Friday we re expecting ░░░░░░░░ we re well practiced ░░░░░░░░ and we ll be ░░░░░░░░ to handle that OK ░░░░░░░░ Friday JANSING Do you ░░░░░░░░ I mean obviously I ░░░░░░░░ sure you keep track ░░░░░░░░ the folks who are ░░░░░░░░ the 911 phones Have ░░░░░░░░ been getting calls Are ░░░░░░░░ people who can t ░░░░░░░░ out who need help ░░░░░░░░ need support who need ░░░░░░░░ What s your biggest ░░░░░░░░ right now Mr Mayor ░░░░░░░░ My biggest concern right ░░░░░░░░ is that when people ░░░░░░░░ going back out you ░░░░░░░░ people are getting impatient ░░░░░░░░ ve been home for ░░░░░░░░ couple days I get ░░░░░░░░ They want to go ░░░░░░░░ and enjoy that sledding ░░░░░░░░ you just saw happening ░░░░░░░░ Washington D C The ░░░░░░░░ is happening here in ░░░░░░░░ People want to go ░░░░░░░░ to the groceries that ░░░░░░░░ still need to use ░░░░░░░░ caution when they re ░░░░░░░░ the roadways Just because ░░░░░░░░ road has been plowed ░░░░░░░░ salted doesn t mean ░░░░░░░░ s back to totally ░░░░░░░░ conditions yet There might ░░░░░░░░ spots of ice So ░░░░░░░░ re going to continue ░░░░░░░░ it We re going ░░░░░░░░ continue working 24 7 ░░░░░░░░ re going to continue ░░░░░░░░ those in need And ░░░░░░░░ we ve got so ░░░░░░░░ snow that even when ░░░░░░░░ plow now we have ░░░░░░░░ that are stuck in ░░░░░░░░ have driveways that are ░░░░░░░░ So we still have ░░░░░░░░ cleanup work to do ░░░░░░░░ we re going to ░░░░░░░░ that we re going ░░░░░░░░ help get our kids ░░░░░░░░ in school and get ░░░░░░░░ city moving again JANSING ░░░░░░░░ our final minute you ░░░░░░░░ that there are folks ░░░░░░░░ who are working I ░░░░░░░░ into their third day ░░░░░░░░ And yet you have ░░░░░░░░ who for their own ░░░░░░░░ maybe just to get ░░░░░░░░ get food have been ░░░░░░░░ 170 crashes so far ░░░░░░░░ is your message to ░░░░░░░░ about the next couple ░░░░░░░░ days before one would ░░░░░░░░ the weather warms and ░░░░░░░░ some of this goes ░░░░░░░░ Greenberg Continue to use ░░░░░░░░ when you go out ░░░░░░░░ warm and stay safe ░░░░░░░░ you go out to ░░░░░░░░ just be very aware ░░░░░░░░ your surroundings Don t ░░░░░░░░ Be aware of others ░░░░░░░░ you can walk and ░░░░░░░░ help others out You ░░░░░░░░ there are some folks ░░░░░░░░ do need to get ░░░░░░░░ work that are having ░░░░░░░░ emergencies that are having ░░░░░░░░ And so if there ░░░░░░░░ a way you can ░░░░░░░░ a neighbor in need ░░░░░░░░ try to help them ░░░░░░░░ these coming days and ░░░░░░░░ be aware of it ░░░░░░░░ Louisville has heeded the ░░░░░░░░ That was really helpful ░░░░░░░░ helping us get our ░░░░░░░░ reopened They re in ░░░░░░░░ much better place today ░░░░░░░░ they were yesterday And ░░░░░░░░ I m really thankful ░░░░░░░░ the community for the ░░░░░░░░ of Louisville You really ░░░░░░░░ it in times like ░░░░░░░░ during historic storms like ░░░░░░░░ ve been facing over ░░░░░░░░ last 48 hours
