FREEMAN Leah can you ░░░░░░░░ me a bit of ░░░░░░░░ historical perspective here on ░░░░░░░░ precedent there may be ░░░░░░░░ I mean buying a ░░░░░░░░ swath of land say ░░░░░░░░ Greenland WRIGHT RIGUEUR So ░░░░░░░░ s actually larger than ░░░░░░░░ There are historical precedents ░░░░░░░░ the kind of you ░░░░░░░░ essentially savor rattling that ░░░░░░░░ re seeing on these ░░░░░░░░ right now You know ░░░░░░░░ Panama Canal Greenland several ░░░░░░░░ countries have been points ░░░░░░░░ contention for the United ░░░░░░░░ in particular conservatives for ░░░░░░░░ years It s also ░░░░░░░░ of a much larger ░░░░░░░░ of U S empire ░░░░░░░░ U S imperialist notions ░░░░░░░░ by and large there ░░░░░░░░ two things I think ░░░░░░░░ are worth pointing out ░░░░░░░░ the U S has ░░░░░░░░ withdrawn from these attempts ░░░░░░░░ empire and imperialism because ░░░░░░░░ haven t gone very ░░░░░░░░ This also includes the ░░░░░░░░ Canal It has been ░░░░░░░░ point of contention for ░░░░░░░░ many years The reason ░░░░░░░░ Carter administration in part ░░░░░░░░ the two treaties that ░░░░░░░░ the Panama Canal is ░░░░░░░░ the United States was ░░░░░░░░ doing well in Panama ░░░░░░░░ the other thing that ░░░░░░░░ think is important is ░░░░░░░░ even as the United ░░░░░░░░ has made these claims ░░░░░░░░ made these attempts over ░░░░░░░░ years it s actually ░░░░░░░░ Republican administrations that have ░░░░░░░░ acted on you know ░░░░░░░░ sale or the purchase ░░░░░░░░ going after these various ░░░░░░░░ In particular because the ░░░░░░░░ state and the amount ░░░░░░░░ effort and the amount ░░░░░░░░ money it takes to ░░░░░░░░ or the military efforts ░░░░░░░░ it takes to invest ░░░░░░░░ these countries in these ░░░░░░░░ is just far too ░░░░░░░░ and far too difficult ░░░░░░░░ I think for somebody ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump who claims ░░░░░░░░ be an isolationist the ░░░░░░░░ that he s proposing ░░░░░░░░ actually anti isolationists They ░░░░░░░░ very much imperialist and ░░░░░░░░ So I wouldn t ░░░░░░░░ surprised if there s ░░░░░░░░ something else underneath what ░░░░░░░░ Trump is proposing Because ░░░░░░░░ Greenland which is interesting ░░░░░░░░ Kingdom of Denmark just ░░░░░░░░ more money into defense ░░░░░░░░ around protecting Greenland but ░░░░░░░░ Panama in particular the ░░░░░░░░ way that the United ░░░░░░░░ can actually invest in ░░░░░░░░ spaces is through military ░░░░░░░░ So I actually think ░░░░░░░░ else is going on ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump that there ░░░░░░░░ something else that he ░░░░░░░░ to negotiate And he ░░░░░░░░ just using these kind ░░░░░░░░ bombastic claims in order ░░░░░░░░ make a much larger ░░░░░░░░
