GEIST Yeah as we ░░░░░░░░ said many times on ░░░░░░░░ show the answer the ░░░░░░░░ from our country after ░░░░░░░░ school shootings can t ░░░░░░░░ to throw up it ░░░░░░░░ hands and say Well ░░░░░░░░ can we do What ░░░░░░░░ we going to do ░░░░░░░░ you haven t done ░░░░░░░░ I think it s ░░░░░░░░ to underline that because ░░░░░░░░ is sort of a ░░░░░░░░ in some ways When ░░░░░░░░ see this on the ░░░░░░░░ it s terrible their ░░░░░░░░ breaks it s awful ░░░░░░░░ think about their own ░░░░░░░░ their own schools their ░░░░░░░░ and loved ones and ░░░░░░░░ they kind of move ░░░░░░░░ and then there will ░░░░░░░░ another one in a ░░░░░░░░ weeks So can you ░░░░░░░░ just to remind people ░░░░░░░░ what you all were ░░░░░░░░ to do a couple ░░░░░░░░ ago and why that ░░░░░░░░ in fact had an ░░░░░░░░ here MURPHY Yeah one ░░░░░░░░ the things we did ░░░░░░░░ that bill was to ░░░░░░░░ it harder for young ░░░░░░░░ Unfortunately it does tend ░░░░░░░░ be young men 18 ░░░░░░░░ 20 years old who ░░░░░░░░ in these shootings That ░░░░░░░░ put an enhanced background ░░░░░░░░ on young buyers of ░░░░░░░░ You still can t ░░░░░░░░ a pistol in this ░░░░░░░░ if you re under ░░░░░░░░ but you could buy ░░░░░░░░ AR 15 So we ░░░░░░░░ much more careful about ░░░░░░░░ those guns to young ░░░░░░░░ And we have stories ░░░░░░░░ all across the country ░░░░░░░░ law enforcement actually stopped ░░░░░░░░ people mostly young men ░░░░░░░░ crisis from buying a ░░░░░░░░ that they maybe were ░░░░░░░░ to use in a ░░░░░░░░ shooting We eliminated what ░░░░░░░░ called the boyfriend loophole ░░░░░░░░ used to be if ░░░░░░░░ beat up your girlfriend ░░░░░░░░ could keep your weapons ░░░░░░░░ if you beat up ░░░░░░░░ wife and were convicted ░░░░░░░░ domestic violence you lost ░░░░░░░░ to weapons That s ░░░░░░░░ millions of abused women ░░░░░░░░ across this country And ░░░░░░░░ are doing a lot ░░░░░░░░ background checks now The ░░░░░░░░ said that anybody who ░░░░░░░░ engaged in the commercial ░░░░░░░░ of weapons even if ░░░░░░░░ don t have a ░░░░░░░░ and mortar store has ░░░░░░░░ perform background checks So ░░░░░░░░ s a lot fewer ░░░░░░░░ who are getting their ░░░░░░░░ on guns a lot ░░░░░░░░ people in mental health ░░░░░░░░ who are getting their ░░░░░░░░ on guns because we ░░░░░░░░ doing a lot more ░░░░░░░░ checks That s all ░░░░░░░░ news Listen it s ░░░░░░░░ universal background checks It ░░░░░░░░ not a ban on ░░░░░░░░ weapons But this mythology ░░░░░░░░ the gun industry proffered ░░░░░░░░ years that the way ░░░░░░░░ we make ourselves safer ░░░░░░░░ by putting more guns ░░░░░░░░ our community isn t ░░░░░░░░ We have proved our ░░░░░░░░ that if you re ░░░░░░░░ little bit smarter about ░░░░░░░░ gun laws you can ░░░░░░░░ a big difference That ░░░░░░░░ good news.”
