Psaki Worries About Dems Criticizing Trans Rights as One of the Issues of ‘What Went Wrong’: ‘Adopting Panic from the Other Side’

PSAKI There s obviously ░░░░░░░░ lot of soul searching ░░░░░░░░ now going on within ░░░░░░░░ Democratic Party and that ░░░░░░░░ a good thing But ░░░░░░░░ I worry about is ░░░░░░░░ in the course of ░░░░░░░░ of that soul searching ░░░░░░░░ Democrats might reach the ░░░░░░░░ sweeping conclusions And there ░░░░░░░░ a lot of issues ░░░░░░░░ fall into that bucket ░░░░░░░░ one in particular that ░░░░░░░░ out to me is ░░░░░░░░ rights Republicans spent hundreds ░░░░░░░░ millions on anti trans ░░░░░░░░ this election cycle including ░░░░░░░░ which shows Vice President ░░░░░░░░ talking about government funding ░░░░░░░░ gender reaffirming care for ░░░░░░░░ and detainees If that ░░░░░░░░ like a particularly obscure ░░░░░░░░ it is because it ░░░░░░░░ to a tiny group ░░░░░░░░ people And it s ░░░░░░░░ a policy by the ░░░░░░░░ that was in place ░░░░░░░░ the first Trump presidency ░░░░░░░░ one of the lines ░░░░░░░░ ran over and over ░░░░░░░░ in the ad and ░░░░░░░░ right wing media is ░░░░░░░░ idea that America is ░░░░░░░░ with a crisis of ░░░░░░░░ playing in girls sports ░░░░░░░░ these ads created the ░░░░░░░░ that the issues of ░░░░░░░░ kids playing sports was ░░░░░░░░ schools across the country ░░░░░░░░ is completely false Some ░░░░░░░░ got pulled into the ░░░░░░░░ Immediately after the election ░░░░░░░░ Seth Moulton told The ░░░░░░░░ York Times that Democrats ░░░░░░░░ way too much time ░░░░░░░░ not to offend anyone ░░░░░░░░ than being brutally honest ░░░░░░░░ the challenges many Americans ░░░░░░░░ I have two little ░░░░░░░░ I don t want ░░░░░░░░ getting run over on ░░░░░░░░ playing field by a ░░░░░░░░ or a formerly male ░░░░░░░░ but as a Democrat ░░░░░░░░ m supposed to be ░░░░░░░░ to say that And ░░░░░░░░ last week Congressman Moulton ░░░░░░░░ on this network to ░░░░░░░░ those comments Clip starts ░░░░░░░░ I was just speaking ░░░░░░░░ as a dad about ░░░░░░░░ of many issues where ░░░░░░░░ think we re just ░░░░░░░░ of touch with the ░░░░░░░░ of voters And I ░░░░░░░░ by my position You ░░░░░░░░ maybe I didn t ░░░░░░░░ all the words exactly ░░░░░░░░ but the point is ░░░░░░░░ the backlash I ve ░░░░░░░░ proves my point that ░░░░░░░░ can t even have ░░░░░░░░ discussions as a party ░░░░░░░░ ends PSAKI Look reflection ░░░░░░░░ good but if that ░░░░░░░░ actually an issue at ░░░░░░░░ of schools across the ░░░░░░░░ it would be worthy ░░░░░░░░ a debate but there ░░░░░░░░ just incredibly few examples ░░░░░░░░ transgender girls playing in ░░░░░░░░ sports And when we ░░░░░░░░ those examples there isn ░░░░░░░░ evidence that these kids ░░░░░░░░ a threat to safety ░░░░░░░░ fairness When I say ░░░░░░░░ examples I mean that ░░░░░░░░ you were to account ░░░░░░░░ examples of transgender girls ░░░░░░░░ youth sports in any ░░░░░░░░ state the number often ░░░░░░░░ to zero Take Utah ░░░░░░░░ a transgender athlete ban ░░░░░░░░ passed there in 2022 ░░░░░░░░ was a grand total ░░░░░░░░ one one transgender girl ░░░░░░░░ in youth sports When ░░░░░░░░ Dakota passed a ban ░░░░░░░░ one transgender girl had ░░░░░░░░ in high school sports ░░░░░░░░ 2013 In fact when ░░░░░░░░ bans were making their ░░░░░░░░ through Republican state houses ░░░░░░░░ 2021 legislators in more ░░░░░░░░ 20 states could not ░░░░░░░░ a single instance in ░░░░░░░░ own state or region ░░░░░░░░ a transgender athlete competing ░░░░░░░░ a problem And yet ░░░░░░░░ noise on this issue ░░░░░░░░ been constant And according ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump that is ░░░░░░░░ purpose Clip starts Trump ░░░░░░░░ s amazing how strongly ░░░░░░░░ feel about that You ░░░░░░░░ I m talking about ░░░░░░░░ taxes and people go ░░░░░░░░ that I talk about ░░░░░░░░ and everyone goes crazy ░░░░░░░░ would have thought Five ░░░░░░░░ ago you didn t ░░░░░░░░ what the hell it ░░░░░░░░ Clip ends PSAKI See ░░░░░░░░ Trump and the Republicans ░░░░░░░░ managed to amplify their ░░░░░░░░ faith attacks to the ░░░░░░░░ that people do have ░░░░░░░░ as misguided and misinformed ░░░░░░░░ those concerns may be ░░░░░░░░ this is a good ░░░░░░░░ for Democrats to self ░░░░░░░░ about what went wrong ░░░░░░░░ what to do better ░░░░░░░░ forward of course it ░░░░░░░░ is But during that ░░░░░░░░ it s important not ░░░░░░░░ yield to manufactured panic ░░░░░░░░ to align with the ░░░░░░░░ facts before making sweeping ░░░░░░░░ Echoing and adopting the ░░░░░░░░ from the other side ░░░░░░░░ not leading It s ░░░░░░░░ meeting people where they ░░░░░░░░ It s simply falling ░░░░░░░░ to right wing propaganda ░░░░░░░░ checking the facts first.”
