The US has brought ░░░░░░░░ against an Afghan National ░░░░░░░░ an alleged Iranian plot ░░░░░░░░ assassinate Donald Trump before ░░░░░░░░ presidential election the indictment ░░░░░░░░ farad shakiri had been ░░░░░░░░ by Teran last month ░░░░░░░░ devise a plan to ░░░░░░░░ Trump two other men ░░░░░░░░ based in the states ░░░░░░░░ also been charged with ░░░░░░░░ plot to assassinate an ░░░░░░░░ journalist benam Ben tblu ░░░░░░░░ a senior fellow at ░░░░░░░░ foundation for defense of ░░░░░░░░ an independent Research Institute ░░░░░░░░ in Washington D C ░░░░░░░░ welcome to the program ░░░░░░░░ s pleasure to be ░░░░░░░░ you thank you thank ░░░░░░░░ for joining us um ░░░░░░░░ of the core questions ░░░░░░░░ is why why would ░░░░░░░░ want to assassinate Trump ░░░░░░░░ would they have to ░░░░░░░░ especially as the details ░░░░░░░░ this suggest they weren ░░░░░░░░ expecting Trump to actually ░░░░░░░░ the election uh well ░░░░░░░░ though one can t ░░░░░░░░ put themselves in the ░░░░░░░░ of the ayas I ░░░░░░░░ it s quite clear ░░░░░░░░ a myriad of policy ░░░░░░░░ ideological reasons first and ░░░░░░░░ when this regime says ░░░░░░░░ to America or death ░░░░░░░░ Israel it means that ░░░░░░░░ s put money and ░░░░░░░░ uh behind those slogans ░░░░░░░░ the past 45 years ░░░░░░░░ with respect to Mr ░░░░░░░░ in particular uh in ░░░░░░░░ last two years of ░░░░░░░░ presidency uh he was ░░░░░░░░ to do macroeconomic in ░░░░░░░░ in a and unilaterally ░░░░░░░░ what previously took over ░░░░░░░░ decade multilaterally to do ░░░░░░░░ that was to really ░░░░░░░░ the squeeze on the ░░░░░░░░ s oil and energy ░░░░░░░░ uh through an an ░░░░░░░░ sanctions regime uh beyond ░░░░░░░░ uh he broke a ░░░░░░░░ sacred cow he slaughtered ░░░░░░░░ a sacred cow as ░░░░░░░░ might say when it ░░░░░░░░ to being a Western ░░░░░░░░ to vifly uh support ░░░░░░░░ protests uh in Iran ░░░░░░░░ and then third uh ░░░░░░░░ actually authorized a drone ░░░░░░░░ on the chief terrorist ░░░░░░░░ the Islamic Republic the ░░░░░░░░ of the Islamic revolutionary ░░░░░░░░ Corp KS force in ░░░░░░░░ January 2020 uh when ░░░░░░░░ individual was in Iraq ░░░░░░░░ for this combination the ░░░░░░░░ has promised something that ░░░░░░░░ says hard revenge and ░░░░░░░░ s put out multiple ░░░░░░░░ videos stat ments uh ░░░░░░░░ even declarations that it ░░░░░░░░ to carry out this ░░░░░░░░ in terms of the ░░░░░░░░ of destabilization even with ░░░░░░░░ details of the plot ░░░░░░░░ clearly has been unsuccessful ░░░░░░░░ was not followed through ░░░░░░░░ even with the details ░░░░░░░░ it is there a ░░░░░░░░ of of further animosity ░░░░░░░░ Trump and Iran what ░░░░░░░░ the likelihood that he ░░░░░░░░ for example ramp ramp ░░░░░░░░ S sanctions when he ░░░░░░░░ president oh well I ░░░░░░░░ it was essentially all ░░░░░░░░ guaranteed that this would ░░░░░░░░ happening any anyway well ░░░░░░░░ news of even such ░░░░░░░░ plot uh made its ░░░░░░░░ into the press and ░░░░░░░░ the Department of Justice ░░░░░░░░ got to uh issue ░░░░░░░░ indictment and the reason ░░░░░░░░ clear both for partisan ░░░░░░░░ for uh professional reasons ░░░░░░░░ partisan I think he ░░░░░░░░ to draw and indeed ░░░░░░░░ did draw a sharp ░░░░░░░░ uh with his predecessor ░░░░░░░░ current US president s ░░░░░░░░ policy the Pres the ░░░░░░░░ of Joe Biden and ░░░░░░░░ might even say that ░░░░░░░░ professional reasons the failures ░░░░░░░░ deterrence over the past ░░░░░░░░ or three years both ░░░░░░░░ the middle least and ░░░░░░░░ large against us power ░░░░░░░░ uh May what may ░░░░░░░░ been what encouraged ton ░░░░░░░░ think it would be ░░░░░░░░ trying to authorize the ░░░░░░░░ of a presidential Contender ░░░░░░░░ less safe uh and ░░░░░░░░ really is a is ░░░░░░░░ Brisk reward ratio and ░░░░░░░░ deterrence calculus that must ░░░░░░░░ Iran s continued Brazen ░░░░░░░░ to Target US citizens ░░░░░░░░ president elect Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ government leaders and dissidents ░░░░░░░░ criticized the regime in ░░░░░░░░ and it does sort ░░░░░░░░ build into this picture ░░░░░░░░ the 2024 presidential campaign ░░░░░░░░ marred actually with threats ░░░░░░░░ and incidents indeed of ░░░░░░░░ um Iran and Russia ░░░░░░░░ of interference with the ░░░░░░░░ we mentioned the unsuccessful ░░░░░░░░ on Trump s life ░░░░░░░░ bomb threats that appear ░░░░░░░░ come from Russian email ░░░░░░░░ um during Election Day ░░░░░░░░ which were found to ░░░░░░░░ be cred but the ░░░░░░░░ thing has has suggested ░░░░░░░░ kind of next level ░░░░░░░░ foreign interference in US ░░░░░░░░ it does and it ░░░░░░░░ very worrying because it ░░░░░░░░ bringing together some separate ░░░░░░░░ that were already problematic ░░░░░░░░ their own one is ░░░░░░░░ foreign actors were already ░░░░░░░░ intent of making quite ░░░░░░░░ pig s breakfast of ░░░░░░░░ entire situation with the ░░░░░░░░ they tried to intervene ░░░░░░░░ 2016 2020 2024 and ░░░░░░░░ is really a through ░░░░░░░░ in America and really ░░░░░░░░ West s authoritarian adversaries ░░░░░░░░ to use use our ░░░░░░░░ space and free internet ░░░░░░░░ against us uh that ░░░░░░░░ one the second of ░░░░░░░░ is also unfortunately the ░░░░░░░░ in the phenomenon of ░░░░░░░░ violence in the west ░░░░░░░░ the third is something ░░░░░░░░ you see specifically from ░░░░░░░░ Islamic Republic which is ░░░░░░░░ far away from its ░░░░░░░░ territory far away from ░░░░░░░░ battlefields of the Middle ░░░░░░░░ where its proxies are ░░░░░░░░ over the past 10 ░░░░░░░░ so years it s ░░░░░░░░ from using proxies and ░░░░░░░░ communities in the countries ░░░░░░░░ those proxies are active ░░░░░░░░ transnational criminal syndicates and ░░░░░░░░ for hire basically local ░░░░░░░░ in each jurisdiction that ░░░░░░░░ it to mask its ░░░░░░░░ even better uh it ░░░░░░░░ why early in January ░░░░░░░░ this year uh the ░░░░░░░░ had indicted a Canadian ░░░░░░░░ of a Canadian biker ░░░░░░░░ who were trying to ░░░░░░░░ an Iranian Defector in ░░░░░░░░ it s why in ░░░░░░░░ story you have even ░░░░░░░░ with American names in ░░░░░░░░ various Burrows of New ░░░░░░░░ City uh who were ░░░░░░░░ of this plot with ░░░░░░░░ shakeri and the Islamic ░░░░░░░░ guard cour what does ░░░░░░░░ say then of The ░░░░░░░░ of these threats if ░░░░░░░░ are being caught by ░░░░░░░░ security services in the ░░░░░░░░ they are not sophisticated ░░░░░░░░ that a sort of ░░░░░░░░ assumption to make that ░░░░░░░░ they can be they ░░░░░░░░ be stopped there is ░░░░░░░░ news and there is ░░░░░░░░ news here the good ░░░░░░░░ is that the vast ░░░░░░░░ of them do appear ░░░░░░░░ have been stopped both ░░░░░░░░ this side and the ░░░░░░░░ side of the Atlantic ░░░░░░░░ and what will continue ░░░░░░░░ stop them is the ░░░░░░░░ Nexus between law enforcement ░░░░░░░░ National Security that allow ░░░░░░░░ on both sides policy ░░░░░░░░ uh intelligent officials what ░░░░░░░░ you uh to be ░░░░░░░░ to spot these trend ░░░░░░░░ that lead to threats ░░░░░░░░ earlier rather than later ░░░░░░░░ have to pay the ░░░░░░░░ on the back end ░░░░░░░░ bad news is is ░░░░░░░░ quantity has a quality ░░░░░░░░ its own this is ░░░░░░░░ regime with an ideology ░░░░░░░░ has consistently preferenced Guns ░░░░░░░░ butter and as you ░░░░░░░░ seen over the past ░░░░░░░░ years and in the ░░░░░░░░ few decades they ve ░░░░░░░░ from Lone Wolf radical ░░░░░░░░ proxy terrorism to now ░░░░░░░░ criminal syndicates and it ░░░░░░░░ a threat that s ░░░░░░░░ to evolve yeah uh ░░░░░░░░ then uh finally of ░░░░░░░░ man at question so ░░░░░░░░ is shakiri uh the ░░░░░░░░ man who has been ░░░░░░░░ here with um uh ░░░░░░░░ this plot against Trump ░░░░░░░░ farad shakiri and the ░░░░░░░░ that he is uh ░░░░░░░░ believed to be in ░░░░░░░░ according to prosecutors when ░░░░░░░░ announced these details is ░░░░░░░░ any chance that he ░░░░░░░░ be brought to a ░░░░░░░░ court I find it ░░░░░░░░ unlikely obviously the US ░░░░░░░░ the Iranians have no ░░░░░░░░ uh treaty they don ░░░░░░░░ even recognize uh each ░░░░░░░░ s Judicial Systems uh ░░░░░░░░ the US has in ░░░░░░░░ past had far reaching ░░░░░░░░ extrajudicial and extr territorial ░░░░░░░░ uh to be able ░░░░░░░░ go after the assets ░░░░░░░░ this individual if they ░░░░░░░░ exist uh or if ░░░░░░░░ re even denominated in ░░░░░░░░ but uh nonetheless I ░░░░░░░░ expect increased ramp up ░░░░░░░░ the National Security of ░░░░░░░░ law enforcement Tool uh ░░░░░░░░ a measure or as ░░░░░░░░ tool of National Security ░░░░░░░░ just against Mr Shak ░░░░░░░░ shakery but his associates ░░░░░░░░ even his employers uh ░░░░░░░░ Islamic revolutionary guard core ░░░░░░░░ thank you very
