J.D. Vance: ‘If You Discard’ a Lifelong Friendship Because Somebody Votes for the Other Team, ‘You’ve Made a Terrible Mistake’

Vance To me the ░░░░░░░░ threat to democracy is ░░░░░░░░ rising tide of censorship ░░░░░░░░ idea that we should ░░░░░░░░ trying to silence our ░░░░░░░░ Americans rather than persuade ░░░░░░░░ and talk to them ░░░░░░░░ s always going to ░░░░░░░░ That s always going ░░░░░░░░ lead to people being ░░░░░░░░ off because they don ░░░░░░░░ like to be told ░░░░░░░░ to think or what ░░░░░░░░ say They like to ░░░░░░░░ to one another And ░░░░░░░░ s one thing that ░░░░░░░░ ll always commit to ░░░░░░░░ you know your vice ░░░░░░░░ for the next four ░░░░░░░░ I ll always try ░░░░░░░░ talk to people We ░░░░░░░░ go out there and ░░░░░░░░ ll do events with ░░░░░░░░ who disagree with us ░░░░░░░░ ll answer questions from ░░░░░░░░ who don t always ░░░░░░░░ eye to eye but ░░░░░░░░ think if we set ░░░░░░░░ tone at the top ░░░░░░░░ leadership of this country ░░░░░░░░ all about communicating with ░░░░░░░░ another I think that ░░░░░░░░ how we start to ░░░░░░░░ the divides But we ░░░░░░░░ have a role in ░░░░░░░░ And one final point ░░░░░░░░ say about this You ░░░░░░░░ don t get too ░░░░░░░░ all the time but ░░░░░░░░ of the things I ░░░░░░░░ seen especially from some ░░░░░░░░ my my wife s ░░░░░░░░ and some of my ░░░░░░░░ is that they disagree ░░░░░░░░ us on politics sometimes ░░░░░░░░ ll get very personal ░░░░░░░░ it And if you ░░░░░░░░ discarding a lifelong friendship ░░░░░░░░ somebody votes for the ░░░░░░░░ team then you ve ░░░░░░░░ a terrible terrible mistake ░░░░░░░░ you should do something ░░░░░░░░ Applause Like don t ░░░░░░░░ t cast aside like ░░░░░░░░ of my family obviously ░░░░░░░░ going to vote for ░░░░░░░░ Trump and JD Vance ░░░░░░░░ if they re not ░░░░░░░░ I need to talk ░░░░░░░░ them but I ve ░░░░░░░░ friends who like me ░░░░░░░░ acquaintances who aren t ░░░░░░░░ going to vote for ░░░░░░░░ That doesn t make ░░░░░░░░ bad people And we ░░░░░░░░ t this is my ░░░░░░░░ important advice Whether you ░░░░░░░░ for me whether you ░░░░░░░░ for Donald Trump whether ░░░░░░░░ vote for Kamala Harris ░░░░░░░░ t cast aside family ░░░░░░░░ and lifelong friendships Politics ░░░░░░░░ not worth it And ░░░░░░░░ think if we follow ░░░░░░░░ principle we ll heal ░░░░░░░░ divide in this country.”
