Harris Surrogate Sec. Raimondo to CNBC: Invite Me as Commerce Sec. And I Will Talk Port Strike

QUICK Welcome back everybody ░░░░░░░░ us right now is ░░░░░░░░ Raimondo She is the ░░░░░░░░ Commerce secretary but she ░░░░░░░░ joining us this morning ░░░░░░░░ her personal capacity as ░░░░░░░░ surrogate for the Vice ░░░░░░░░ Kamala Harris campaign And ░░░░░░░░ secretary thank you very ░░░░░░░░ for being here this ░░░░░░░░ I realize you re ░░░░░░░░ as a surrogate for ░░░░░░░░ vice president s campaign ░░░░░░░░ there s so much ░░░░░░░░ of the day that ░░░░░░░░ feel we have to ░░░░░░░░ you about I wanted ░░░░░░░░ start with this potential ░░░░░░░░ at the ports that ░░░░░░░░ expected to take place ░░░░░░░░ at midnight Obviously this ░░░░░░░░ the first time since ░░░░░░░░ 1970s that you would ░░░░░░░░ strikes all up and ░░░░░░░░ not only the East ░░░░░░░░ but the Gulf ports ░░░░░░░░ would this mean for ░░░░░░░░ in this country What ░░░░░░░░ this mean for businesses ░░░░░░░░ we go into this ░░░░░░░░ And what do you ░░░░░░░░ about it RAIMONDO Yeah ░░░░░░░░ morning So as you ░░░░░░░░ I m here in ░░░░░░░░ personal capacity I would ░░░░░░░░ look it s not ░░░░░░░░ secret that this would ░░░░░░░░ depending on how long ░░░░░░░░ lasts could be incredibly ░░░░░░░░ to commerce As you ░░░░░░░░ know you know that ░░░░░░░░ much commerce moves through ░░░░░░░░ ports and you know ░░░░░░░░ it goes a few ░░░░░░░░ I think I m ░░░░░░░░ companies probably have their ░░░░░░░░ set but especially we ░░░░░░░░ in peak season getting ░░░░░░░░ for the Christmas season ░░░░░░░░ a strike were to ░░░░░░░░ on I think it ░░░░░░░░ be really very very ░░░░░░░░ to commerce So I ░░░░░░░░ do hope that the ░░░░░░░░ you know stay at ░░░░░░░░ table and resolve it ░░░░░░░░ quickly as possible hopefully ░░░░░░░░ a strike but certainly ░░░░░░░░ know keeping the length ░░░░░░░░ the strike as short ░░░░░░░░ possible The knock on ░░░░░░░░ through the supply chain ░░░░░░░░ quite extensive QUICK Where ░░░░░░░░ the issues most prominent ░░░░░░░░ have you been kind ░░░░░░░░ focused in hearing on ░░░░░░░░ would happen if the ░░░░░░░░ goes let s say ░░░░░░░░ than a week RAIMONDO ░░░░░░░░ I have not been ░░░░░░░░ focused on that I ░░░░░░░░ refer you to the ░░░░░░░░ House or the Transportation ░░░░░░░░ QUICK I know the ░░░░░░░░ and the president himself ░░░░░░░░ said that he is ░░░░░░░░ going to push the ░░░░░░░░ sides together He s ░░░░░░░░ them to talk And ░░░░░░░░ just wonder have you ░░░░░░░░ from business leaders You ░░░░░░░░ are the person in ░░░░░░░░ administration who has business ░░░░░░░░ here more than just ░░░░░░░░ anybody else in terms ░░░░░░░░ what this might mean ░░░░░░░░ them RAIMONDO I m ░░░░░░░░ because again I want ░░░░░░░░ stay in the bounds ░░░░░░░░ the Hatch Act here ░░░░░░░░ if you wanted to ░░░░░░░░ me back as Commerce ░░░░░░░░ later in the week ░░░░░░░░ we could talk about ░░░░░░░░ But as I said ░░░░░░░░ haven t been particularly ░░░░░░░░ QUICK OK We would ░░░░░░░░ to have you back ░░░░░░░░ this week Is there ░░░░░░░░ you can tell us ░░░░░░░░ about what s happening ░░░░░░░░ the southeastern part of ░░░░░░░░ United States Obviously this ░░░░░░░░ huge and we are ░░░░░░░░ trying to figure out ░░░░░░░░ what s taken place ░░░░░░░░ for recovery of people ░░░░░░░░ and trying to get ░░░░░░░░ backing up and running ░░░░░░░░ I would imagine that ░░░░░░░░ s going to have ░░░░░░░░ huge impact on the ░░░░░░░░ too RAIMONDO Yes I ░░░░░░░░ say it it seems ░░░░░░░░ be quite devastating and ░░░░░░░░ my heart goes out ░░░░░░░░ the people there I ░░░░░░░░ the governor of Rhode ░░░░░░░░ which is the ocean ░░░░░░░░ and I know firsthand ░░░░░░░░ dealing in the aftermath ░░░░░░░░ hurricanes nothing like what ░░░░░░░░ re seeing in North ░░░░░░░░ Unless you re on ░░░░░░░░ ground and see it ░░░░░░░░ s impossible to know ░░░░░░░░ how disruptive devastating and ░░░░░░░░ threatening this is You ░░░░░░░░ forget about commerce So ░░░░░░░░ have total confidence that ░░░░░░░░ president will be on ░░░░░░░░ of his team to ░░░░░░░░ with this and and ░░░░░░░░ Cooper the governor But ░░░░░░░░ now I just think ░░░░░░░░ need to be focused ░░░░░░░░ the real suffering that ░░░░░░░░ happening there and do ░░░░░░░░ we can to help ░░░░░░░░ QUICK Thank you Commerce ░░░░░░░░ Why Don t We ░░░░░░░░ about why you re ░░░░░░░░ today And again you ░░░░░░░░ here in your personal ░░░░░░░░ today to talk about ░░░░░░░░ you see in the ░░░░░░░░ and as a surrogate ░░░░░░░░ the — the Harris —”
