BERMAN Senator what is ░░░░░░░░ housing Smith Well so ░░░░░░░░ I announced with my ░░░░░░░░ Alexandria Ocasio Cortez a ░░░░░░░░ bill with a new ░░░░░░░░ for building affordable housing ░░░░░░░░ this country Do you ░░░░░░░░ that in over 90 ░░░░░░░░ of American counties most ░░░░░░░░ wage workers can t ░░░░░░░░ even a modest one ░░░░░░░░ apartment The private market ░░░░░░░░ not building the housing ░░░░░░░░ we need We have ░░░░░░░░ severe housing shortage So ░░░░░░░░ housing is way of ░░░░░░░░ permanently affordable housing to ░░░░░░░░ the needs of middle ░░░░░░░░ Americans and regular Americans ░░░░░░░░ m excited about this ░░░░░░░░ and I think it ░░░░░░░░ going to really give ░░░░░░░░ a new way of ░░░░░░░░ about how to address ░░░░░░░░ severe housing shortage that ░░░░░░░░ have in this country ░░░░░░░░ Is it public housing ░░░░░░░░ s the difference Smith ░░░░░░░░ it would be funded ░░░░░░░░ a public bank and ░░░░░░░░ it would create affordable ░░░░░░░░ units as well as ░░░░░░░░ for homeownership And instead ░░░░░░░░ relying on the private ░░░░░░░░ which has a profit ░░░░░░░░ it would put it ░░░░░░░░ be housing that is ░░░░░░░░ by public entities It ░░░░░░░░ be nonprofits It could ░░░░░░░░ state or local governments ░░░░░░░░ Minnesota we have great ░░░░░░░░ of this through our ░░░░░░░░ movement which we ve ░░░░░░░░ around for a long ░░░░░░░░ And community land trusts ░░░░░░░░ are owning the land ░░░░░░░░ the home and keeping ░░░░░░░░ keeping that home permanently ░░░░░░░░ but allowing the people ░░░░░░░░ own the home to ░░░░░░░░ equity and be able ░░░░░░░░ move forward So it ░░░░░░░░ exciting I think to ░░░░░░░░ able to think about ░░░░░░░░ new way of doing ░░░░░░░░ This strategy is in ░░░░░░░░ in many countries around ░░░░░░░░ world and in Minnesota ░░░░░░░░ well as in The ░░░░░░░░ where Rep Ocasio Cortez ░░░░░░░░ So I think I ░░░░░░░░ excited to see where ░░░░░░░░ can how we can ░░░░░░░░ this forward BERMAN Senator ░░░░░░░░ Smith from Minnesota Thanks ░░░░░░░░ being with us this ░░░░░░░░ Kate?”
