Texas Dem Sheriff: Law Enforcement Leaders See ‘Complete Absence from Washington’ on Border

talk to ░░░░░░░░ just me but at ░░░░░░░░ 12 other Texas sheriffs ░░░░░░░░ major counties in the ░░░░░░░░ of Texas that are ░░░░░░░░ with this issue firsthand ░░░░░░░░ I d like to ░░░░░░░░ somebody from Washington come ░░░░░░░░ here get boots on ░░░░░░░░ ground get eyes on ░░░░░░░░ issue at hand and ░░░░░░░░ talk to us a ░░░░░░░░ group of Texas sheriffs ░░░░░░░░ are really taking a ░░░░░░░░ sense approach because we ░░░░░░░░ to on this DIAZ ░░░░░░░░ So when you say ░░░░░░░░ re taking a common ░░░░░░░░ approach and that you ░░░░░░░░ not having federal assistance ░░░░░░░░ is that approaching you ░░░░░░░░ taking and what is ░░░░░░░░ that you need SALAZAR ░░░░░░░░ we d like to ░░░░░░░░ up with something that ░░░░░░░░ sense At present and ░░░░░░░░ hate to have to ░░░░░░░░ this at present we ░░░░░░░░ got a governor that ░░░░░░░░ this as a campaign ░░░░░░░░ I mean I hate ░░░░░░░░ say that but it ░░░░░░░░ a whole lot of ░░░░░░░░ being poured into the ░░░░░░░░ just for the point ░░░░░░░░ just for the stance ░░░░░░░░ making a point to ░░░░░░░░ right They re putting ░░░░░░░░ people into state prisons ░░░░░░░░ a backlog in the ░░░░░░░░ system That affects affects ░░░░░░░░ sheriffs But also like ░░░░░░░░ these folks to Washington ░░░░░░░░ C and then dropping ░░░░░░░░ at the figurative doorstep ░░░░░░░░ the president you re ░░░░░░░░ doing that to make ░░░░░░░░ point and you re ░░░░░░░░ resources in the process ░░░░░░░░ don t you talk ░░░░░░░░ some law enforcement officers ░░░░░░░░ are handling this and ░░░░░░░░ us see if we ░░░░░░░░ together come up with ░░░░░░░░ basic you know no ░░░░░░░░ approach to this situation ░░░░░░░░ needs to be handled ░░░░░░░░ can t tell me ░░░░░░░░ the immigration situation in ░░░░░░░░ country is working just ░░░░░░░░ DIAZ BALART So yours What are you ░░░░░░░░ to tell the president ░░░░░░░░ Mr President we need ░░░░░░░░ help With all due ░░░░░░░░ the perception here what ░░░░░░░░ ve seen in talking ░░░░░░░░ other law enforcement leaders ░░░░░░░░ my precious state of ░░░░░░░░ is the perception is ░░░░░░░░ there s been a ░░░░░░░░ absence from Washington D ░░░░░░░░ Now I know that ░░░░░░░░ got a whole world ░░░░░░░░ protect and serve However ░░░░░░░░ down in Texas we ░░░░░░░░ your help We need ░░░░░░░░ here to talk to ░░░░░░░░ and see if we ░░░░░░░░ be part of the ░░░░░░░░ You know right now ░░░░░░░░ we re doing is ░░░░░░░░ re allowing the state ░░░░░░░░ to control that narrative ░░░░░░░░ maybe they re trying ░░░░░░░░ best I don t ░░░░░░░░ but at this point ░░░░░░░░ results that we re ░░░░░░░░ are just not satisfactory ░░░░░░░░ We re dealing with ░░░░░░░░ 50 people dead That ░░░░░░░░ the approach isn t ░░░░░░░░ And so we need ░░░░░░░░ president himself to come ░░░░░░░░ here and talk to ░░░░░░░░ law enforcement and let ░░░░░░░░ see if we can ░░░░░░░░ figure something out DIAZ ░░░░░░░░ And sheriff there are ░░░░░░░░ of people of organ ░░░░░░░░ are organizations in Mexico ░░░░░░░░ Central America and South ░░░░░░░░ throughout the world and ░░░░░░░░ in the United States ░░░░░░░░ are making muchisimo dinero ░░░░░░░░ of dollars exploiting people ░░░░░░░░ have an American dream ░░░░░░░░ are willing to risk ░░░░░░░░ all to come to ░░░░░░░░ country How do you ░░░░░░░░ with something like that ░░░░░░░░ and millions and millions ░░░░░░░░ dollars in cash every ░░░░░░░░ exploiting humans in our ░░░░░░░░ country sheriff SALAZAR Absolutely ░░░░░░░░ that s what that ░░░░░░░░ why I mentioned being ░░░░░░░░ at the president in ░░░░░░░░ letter You know I ░░░░░░░░ angry I was angry ░░░░░░░░ I wrote it I ░░░░░░░░ still angry today so ░░░░░░░░ me if during talking ░░░░░░░░ you I get a ░░░░░░░░ more angry because it ░░░░░░░░ me bristle with anger ░░░░░░░░ 50 people died in ░░░░░░░░ community and I couldn ░░░░░░░░ do anything to stop ░░░░░░░░ It s frustrating I ░░░░░░░░ the fact that these ░░░░░░░░ folks the vast majority ░░░░░░░░ them I m not ░░░░░░░░ say all of them ░░░░░░░░ vast majority of them ░░░░░░░░ just coming here looking ░░░░░░░░ a better life because ░░░░░░░░ have no prospects in ░░░░░░░░ home country and right ░░░░░░░░ we re putting them ░░░░░░░░ re in a situation ░░░░░░░░ they re more afraid ░░░░░░░░ me who I mean ░░░░░░░░ no harm they re ░░░░░░░░ afraid of me than ░░░░░░░░ are the drug cartels ░░░░░░░░ are charging them 10 ░░░░░░░░ cramming them into an ░░░░░░░░ wheeler like cattle and ░░░░░░░░ maybe they make it ░░░░░░░░ their location maybe they ░░░░░░░░ t but the cartels ░░░░░░░░ got their money at ░░░░░░░░ point We ve got ░░░░░░░░ flip that narrative somehow ░░░░░░░░ them be able to ░░░░░░░░ there s a way ░░░░░░░░ can create a process ░░░░░░░░ they come into the ░░░░░░░░ legally Let s create ░░░░░░░░ front door that tjey ░░░░░░░░ come through legally with
