Clyburn Says He Would Support ‘Mini-Primary’ Ahead of DNC Convention if Biden Steps Aside

HILL Our recent polling ░░░░░░░░ shows the vice president ░░░░░░░░ Harris in a hypothetical ░░░░░░░░ with Donald Trump She ░░░░░░░░ within the margin of ░░░░░░░░ and actually does better ░░░░░░░░ that head to head ░░░░░░░░ the president does There ░░░░░░░░ been some talk you ░░░░░░░░ said you would support ░░░░░░░░ Harris if Biden stays ░░░░░░░░ aside but there has ░░░░░░░░ talk as well about ░░░░░░░░ there be sort of ░░░░░░░░ mini primary for lack ░░░░░░░░ a better term so ░░░░░░░░ is not simply a ░░░░░░░░ for the vice president ░░░░░░░░ the president were to ░░░░░░░░ aside but that there ░░░░░░░░ be a race she ░░░░░░░░ ultimately come out on ░░░░░░░░ in that moment If ░░░░░░░░ were to happen would ░░░░░░░░ support that move for ░░░░░░░░ a bit of a ░░░░░░░░ primary leading into the ░░░░░░░░ Clyburn Well I think ░░░░░░░░ re going to have ░░░░░░░░ mini primary leading into ░░░░░░░░ convention As you know ░░░░░░░░ of the legal issues ░░░░░░░░ involved in Ohio it ░░░░░░░░ my understanding that we ░░░░░░░░ have some kind of ░░░░░░░░ virtual roll call before ░░░░░░░░ convention opens HILL But ░░░░░░░░ you envision somebody other ░░░░░░░░ Joe Biden as a ░░░░░░░░ Clyburn I m sorry ░░░░░░░░ Part of that yes ░░░░░░░░ that needs to happen ░░░░░░░░ Ohio as we know ░░░░░░░░ of the balloting issues ░░░░░░░░ But are you saying ░░░░░░░░ you think in that ░░░░░░░░ call which I believe ░░░░░░░░ to happen before August ░░░░░░░░ I think is the ░░░░░░░░ perhaps it s the ░░░░░░░░ that there would be ░░░░░░░░ candidates that this would ░░░░░░░░ an expanded field Clyburn ░░░░░░░░ will definitely be other ░░░░░░░░ My understanding is there ░░░░░░░░ 700 uncommitted delegates And ░░░░░░░░ course there are delegates ░░░░░░░░ have pled It would ░░░░░░░░ to me that any ░░░░░░░░ of these people who ░░░░░░░░ to being president who ░░░░░░░░ like to see a ░░░░░░░░ taking place look at ░░░░░░░░ 700 delegates who are ░░░░░░░░ uncommitted and get into ░░░░░░░░ action And I do ░░░░░░░░ that all the delegates ░░░░░░░░ committed only for the ░░░░░░░░ round And so you ░░░░░░░░ actually fashion the process ░░░░░░░░ s already in place ░░░░░░░░ make it a mini ░░░░░░░░ and I would support ░░░░░░░░ absolutely We can t ░░░░░░░░ that down and we ░░░░░░░░ open up everything for ░░░░░░░░ general elected And I ░░░░░░░░ that Kamala Harris would ░░░░░░░░ herself very well in ░░░░░░░░ kind of a process ░░░░░░░░ then it will be ░░░░░░░░ to everybody So all ░░░░░░░░ the other governors who ░░░░░░░░ be interested and there ░░░░░░░░ some that I would ░░░░░░░░ interested in hearing from ░░░░░░░░ well because if she ░░░░░░░░ to be the nominee ░░░░░░░░ need to have a ░░░░░░░░ mate and need strong ░░░░░░░░ mate And so all ░░░░░░░░ us would give us ░░░░░░░░ good opportunity not just ░░░░░░░░ measure up who would ░░░░░░░░ good it s going ░░░░░░░░ be at the top ░░░░░░░░ the ticket but also ░░░░░░░░ will be best in ░░░░░░░░ place HILL Congressman James ░░░░░░░░ always appreciate your time ░░░░░░░░ Thank you Clyburn Thank ░░░░░░░░ very much for having ░░░░░░░░
