COOPER Some of these ░░░░░░░░ s professors on the ░░░░░░░░ at Columbia who are ░░░░░░░░ these protests They have ░░░░░░░░ They can t be ░░░░░░░░ The students can be ░░░░░░░░ out I was amazed ░░░░░░░░ learn that one of ░░░░░░░░ heads of the protests ░░░░░░░░ Columbia during a disciplinary ░░░░░░░░ Zoom call said that ░░░░░░░░ should be killed and ░░░░░░░░ t deserve to live ░░░░░░░░ that wasn t grounds ░░░░░░░░ expulsion It s only ░░░░░░░░ that that person has ░░░░░░░░ expelled from the school ░░░░░░░░ after that was already ░░░░░░░░ there SUMMERS I don ░░░░░░░░ I m not going ░░░░░░░░ comment on the facts ░░░░░░░░ that situation because I ░░░░░░░░ t precisely know it ░░░░░░░░ yes something I saw ░░░░░░░░ Harvard was a Dean ░░░░░░░░ who had the title ░░░░░░░░ was busy feeding passing ░░░░░░░░ burritos into protesters who ░░░░░░░░ occupied one of our ░░░░░░░░ buildings And our administration ░░░░░░░░ nothing about that And ░░░░░░░░ they re surprised that ░░░░░░░░ have grown and mushroomed ░░░░░░░░ I think there s ░░░░░░░░ real question about accountability ░░░░░░░░ everyone I think it ░░░░░░░░ integral even though it ░░░░░░░░ sometimes painful and problematic ░░░░░░░░ faculty to have the ░░░░░░░░ to express opinions in ░░░░░░░░ very free way That ░░░░░░░░ academic freedom But acting ░░░░░░░░ those opinions with respect ░░░░░░░░ student discipline having that ░░░░░░░░ be extended to making ░░░░░░░░ on behalf of the ░░░░░░░░ having that freedom be ░░░░░░░░ to what they do ░░░░░░░░ they re supposed to ░░░░░░░░ objective judges COOPER Yes ░░░░░░░░ that s a much ░░░░░░░░ more problematic thing And ░░░░░░░░ think there needs to ░░░░░░░░ a lot of soul ░░░░░░░░ about the way universities ░░░░░░░░ governed And my own ░░░░░░░░ is that trustees who ░░░░░░░░ the ultimate fiduciaries who ░░░░░░░░ all these rules about ░░░░░░░░ and everything else have ░░░░░░░░ much too passive through ░░░░░░░░ much of this episode.”
