Karen Finney: Mike Johnson’s Visit at Columbia University Is Like ‘Throwing Gas at Fire’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT He is ░░░░░░░░ now What would you ░░░░░░░░ So first of all ░░░░░░░░ me say I think ░░░░░░░░ Johnson did was pretty ░░░░░░░░ because that s throwing ░░░░░░░░ on the fire that ░░░░░░░░ not actually trying to ░░░░░░░░ to the university how ░░░░░░░░ we help you solve ░░░░░░░░ problem And that s ░░░░░░░░ we should be doing ░░░░░░░░ should be more concerned ░░░░░░░░ how do we help ░░░░░░░░ campuses create a safe ░░░░░░░░ for not just our ░░░░░░░░ all the people who ░░░░░░░░ there not how can ░░░░░░░░ try to score political ░░░░░░░░ And I think the ░░░░░░░░ thing well what should ░░░░░░░░ have done Well I ░░░░░░░░ all you re saying ░░░░░░░░ Why not call the ░░░░░░░░ and say what can ░░░░░░░░ be doing Well how ░░░░░░░░ do a meeting of ░░░░░░░░ presidents instead of a ░░░░░░░░ bring them together and ░░░░░░░░ what do you need ░░░░░░░░ resources do you need ░░░░░░░░ us Because remember it ░░░░░░░░ also it s governors ░░░░░░░░ mayors who are going ░░░░░░░░ ultimately have to deal ░░░░░░░░ this So I think ░░░░░░░░ s taking an approach ░░░░░░░░ understands this is a ░░░░░░░░ event when this happens ░░░░░░░░ how am I grew ░░░░░░░░ in Berkeley so we ░░░░░░░░ a lot of protesting ░░░░░░░░ And that really collaborative ░░░░░░░░ as part of how ░░░░░░░░ say our number one ░░░░░░░░ is people safety Jewish ░░░░░░░░ should absolutely not feel ░░░░░░░░ David know students should ░░░░░░░░ intimidated as a black ░░░░░░░░ trust me I know ░░░░░░░░ that feels like and ░░░░░░░░ don t want anybody ░░░░░░░░ feel that way I ░░░░░░░░ the president he has ░░░░░░░░ the protests a couple ░░░░░░░░ times He has also ░░░░░░░░ Department of Education has ░░░░░░░░ that they ve developed ░░░░░░░░ I think part of ░░░░░░░░ is talking with these ░░░░░░░░ communities and saying do ░░░░░░░░ have the expertise and ░░░░░░░░ resources that you need ░░░░░░░░ we cannot have this ░░░░░░░░ of disruption But the ░░░░░░░░ thing I ll just ░░░░░░░░ I think we have ░░░░░░░░ be really careful about ░░░░░░░░ we certainly saw this ░░░░░░░░ George Floyd many of ░░░░░░░░ real agitators who are ░░░░░░░░ there to be peaceful ░░░░░░░░ outsiders with their own ░░░░░░░░ We saw students actually ░░░░░░░░ saying that that has ░░░░░░░░ their experience So think ░░░░░░░░ enforcement has to be ░░░░░░░░ who is there peacefully ░░░░░░░░ the say their piece ░░░░░░░░ their First Amendment rights ░░░░░░░░ who s they re ░░░░░░░░ trying to incite violence.
