Rachel Goldberg-Polin: Six Months Without the Release of All Hostages Is a Complete Failure on Everybody’s Part

BRENNAN I cannot imagine ░░░░░░░░ painful the last six ░░░░░░░░ have been for you ░░░░░░░░ 184 days that your ░░░░░░░░ has been away from ░░░░░░░░ But I know you ░░░░░░░░ been on a mission ░░░░░░░░ met with the pope ░░░░░░░░ ve been to the ░░░░░░░░ N You have been ░░░░░░░░ the White House And ░░░░░░░░ you will be back ░░░░░░░░ the White House What ░░░░░░░░ you expecting to hear ░░░░░░░░ POLIN Well you know ░░░░░░░░ is such a painful ░░░░░░░░ indescribable odyssey that we ░░░░░░░░ on And as you ░░░░░░░░ you can t imagine ░░░░░░░░ often say Oh I ░░░░░░░░ can t imagine what ░░░░░░░░ re going through And ░░░░░░░░ we are going to ░░░░░░░░ returning to Washington tomorrow ░░░░░░░░ have meetings with different ░░░░░░░░ in the administration And ░░░░░░░░ really want to understand ░░░░░░░░ is happening to ensure ░░░░░░░░ these people and remember ░░░░░░░░ we have eight American ░░░░░░░░ who have been held ░░░░░░░░ 184 days and we ░░░░░░░░ feeling extreme desperation despair ░░░░░░░░ we ve had wonderful ░░░░░░░░ and sympathy and open ░░░░░░░░ and lots of hugs ░░░░░░░░ everyone in the U ░░░░░░░░ government but this is ░░░░░░░░ very binary situation We ░░░░░░░░ our people back period ░░░░░░░░ that s what we ░░░░░░░░ going to be talking ░░░░░░░░ about is what is ░░░░░░░░ going to be happening ░░░░░░░░ leverage what levers need ░░░░░░░░ be pulled in order ░░░░░░░░ make this happen Because ░░░░░░░░ months is actually a ░░░░░░░░ failure on everybody s ░░░░░░░░ And I include myself ░░░░░░░░ that as a parent ░░░░░░░░ I have not been ░░░░░░░░ to save my son ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ think that you re ░░░░░░░░ parent anyone who is ░░░░░░░░ parent can appreciate our ░░░░░░░░ is to keep our ░░░░░░░░ safe And when they ░░░░░░░░ in a situation when ░░░░░░░░ re not safe our ░░░░░░░░ is to save them ░░░░░░░░ I feel that I ░░░░░░░░ failed and I feel ░░░░░░░░ our governments have failed ░░░░░░░░ I feel that all ░░░░░░░░ parties at the table ░░░░░░░░ failed to get these ░░░░░░░░ souls back home BRENNAN ░░░░░░░░ have said in the ░░░░░░░░ you wish the mothers ░░░░░░░░ be at the negotiating ░░░░░░░░ I also read you ░░░░░░░░ Israeli leaders are not ░░░░░░░░ straight because they re ░░░░░░░░ from a place of ░░░░░░░░ ridden trauma And you ░░░░░░░░ asked the Jewish communities ░░░░░░░░ the world to press ░░░░░░░░ men in power What ░░░░░░░░ you asking people at ░░░░░░░░ to do to help ░░░░░░░░ Goldberg POLIN Well there ░░░░░░░░ so many different things ░░░░░░░░ can be done You ░░░░░░░░ there s advocacy really ░░░░░░░░ needs to be done ░░░░░░░░ that people around the ░░░░░░░░ understand who is this ░░░░░░░░ of hostages that are ░░░░░░░░ held I think there ░░░░░░░░ so much noise and ░░░░░░░░ and hatred in the ░░░░░░░░ that people are forgetting ░░░░░░░░ there are so there ░░░░░░░░ a representation of all ░░░░░░░░ types of people being ░░░░░░░░ You know we still ░░░░░░░░ eight Muslim Arabs being ░░░░░░░░ in this hostage cohort ░░░░░░░░ have seven Thai Buddhists ░░░░░░░░ held We have two ░░░░░░░░ African Christians being held ░░░░░░░░ have people from Nepal ░░░░░░░░ people from Mexico and ░░░░░░░░ from Germany and people ░░░░░░░░ France people from all ░░░░░░░░ the world This is ░░░░░░░░ just one homogeneous group ░░░░░░░░ people that is being ░░░░░░░░ And I think that ░░░░░░░░ kind of gets lost ░░░░░░░░ all the noise I ░░░░░░░░ talking to your leaders ░░░░░░░░ you are in the ░░░░░░░░ certainly your local elected ░░░░░░░░ in America writing to ░░░░░░░░ White House again the ░░░░░░░░ Administration has been wonderful ░░░░░░░░ very supportive but we ░░░░░░░░ one goal We need ░░░░░░░░ people home.”
