Hogan Gidley: Once We Start Beating the Democrats on Mail-In, Ballot Harvesting They’ll Want to Change the Rules

GRUBER Look we can ░░░░░░░░ about what happened in ░░░░░░░░ a lot of questions ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ s any question that ░░░░░░░░ mail in ballots played ░░░░░░░░ big role in the ░░░░░░░░ ultimately in the 2020 ░░░░░░░░ So when you look ░░░░░░░░ a state like Michigan ░░░░░░░░ I ve got the ░░░░░░░░ here you know suits ░░░░░░░░ been filed against Jocelyn ░░░░░░░░ the Secretary of State ░░░░░░░░ by law you are ░░░░░░░░ to clean up your ░░░░░░░░ rolls She s not ░░░░░░░░ it Where are we ░░░░░░░░ this GIDLEY Well we ░░░░░░░░ not in a good ░░░░░░░░ You know a lot ░░░░░░░░ states across this country ░░░░░░░░ you hit on there ░░░░░░░░ the important swing states ░░░░░░░░ matter in presidential elections ░░░░░░░░ all votes count all ░░░░░░░░ matter All legal voters ░░░░░░░░ be protected and all ░░░░░░░░ votes should be protected ░░░░░░░░ a lot of these ░░░░░░░░ just don t do ░░░░░░░░ And they don t ░░░░░░░░ that by refusing to ░░░░░░░░ up their voter rolls ░░░░░░░░ is one of the ░░░░░░░░ offenders in this And ░░░░░░░░ we did at the ░░░░░░░░ First Policy Institute we ░░░░░░░░ a look at the ░░░░░░░░ of registered active voters ░░░░░░░░ to actually vote in ░░░░░░░░ elections quote unquote and ░░░░░░░░ that with the census ░░░░░░░░ And Michigan is one ░░░░░░░░ those states where 27 ░░░░░░░░ its counties 27 counties ░░░░░░░░ a percentage of registered ░░░░░░░░ over 100 percent So ░░░░░░░░ people than exists in ░░░░░░░░ county are registered to ░░░░░░░░ It makes absolutely no ░░░░░░░░ It s obviously an ░░░░░░░░ Michigan s not the ░░░░░░░░ one Georgia has 22 ░░░░░░░░ with registered voters over ░░░░░░░░ percent Nevada has two ░░░░░░░░ those all important Clark ░░░░░░░░ Washoe counties over 100 ░░░░░░░░ These are all significant ░░░░░░░░ because the secretaries of ░░░░░░░░ in these states are ░░░░░░░░ following the law Cleaning ░░░░░░░░ voter rolls politically is ░░░░░░░░ very popular issue 90 ░░░░░░░░ of people in this ░░░░░░░░ won t clean inaccurate ░░░░░░░░ rolls So just on ░░░░░░░░ politics of it you ░░░░░░░░ the secretaries of state ░░░░░░░░ stand up and say ░░░░░░░░ right we want to ░░░░░░░░ voters GRUBER Sure GIDLEY ░░░░░░░░ know it s popular ░░░░░░░░ s get it fixed ░░░░░░░░ re just not doing ░░░░░░░░ which is also a ░░░░░░░░ of federal law GRUBER ░░░░░░░░ would think this would ░░░░░░░░ easy Hogan I mean ░░░░░░░░ s the law It ░░░░░░░░ a popular thing politically ░░░░░░░░ the country as you ░░░░░░░░ out would be an ░░░░░░░░ thing to do You ░░░░░░░░ up the voter rolls ░░░░░░░░ don t want somebody ░░░░░░░░ s dead or moved ░░░░░░░░ to be on your ░░░░░░░░ rolls and have the ░░░░░░░░ to vote where they ░░░░░░░░ not supposed to or ░░░░░░░░ somebody vote in their ░░░░░░░░ which we learned recently ░░░░░░░░ polling But a lot ░░░░░░░░ people in mass mail ░░░░░░░░ ballots in 2022 filled ░░░░░░░░ somebody else s ballot ░░░░░░░░ somebody else s ballot ░░░░░░░░ the rules across the ░░░░░░░░ This is why Europe ░░░░░░░░ t allow all this ░░░░░░░░ in balloting But we ░░░░░░░░ it we have to ░░░░░░░░ with it and we ░░░░░░░░ to figure out how ░░░░░░░░ win with it don ░░░░░░░░ we GIDLEY Oh no ░░░░░░░░ Look if the rule ░░░░░░░░ your state if the ░░░░░░░░ exists where you have ░░░░░░░░ ballot harvests where you ░░░░░░░░ to mass mail in ░░░░░░░░ have to do these ░░░░░░░░ Republicans need to do ░░░░░░░░ much better job of ░░░░░░░░ Listen of those are ░░░░░░░░ rules let s play ░░░░░░░░ those rules and let ░░░░░░░░ beat them at their ░░░░░░░░ game Think about how ░░░░░░░░ wasn t really known ░░░░░░░░ understood in 2012 but ░░░░░░░░ Obama weaponized it Boy ░░░░░░░░ media say what a ░░░░░░░░ job he had done ░░░░░░░░ fast forward to 2016 ░░░░░░░░ then Donald Trump comes ░░░░░░░░ and he does Facebook ░░░░░░░░ And what was the ░░░░░░░░ reaction Oh well we ░░░░░░░░ probably ban and censor ░░░░░░░░ You begin to beat ░░░░░░░░ at their own game ░░░░░░░░ they re going to ░░░░░░░░ to change it So ░░░░░░░░ have to understand that ░░░░░░░░ rule exists in that ░░░░░░░░ that the local parties ░░░░░░░░ the local advocacy organizations ░░░░░░░░ grassroots organizations all the ░░░░░░░░ need to get involved ░░░░░░░░ say All right if ░░░░░░░░ is the way we ░░░░░░░░ going to play the ░░░░░░░░ let s play it ░░░░░░░░ t violate any laws ░░░░░░░░ let s make sure ░░░░░░░░ do it better than ░░░░░░░░ other side And once ░░░░░░░░ start beating them at ░░░░░░░░ I promise you they ░░░░░░░░ going to want to ░░░░░░░░ the rules and tighten ░░░░░░░░ up a little bit ░░░░░░░░ it doesn t work ░░░░░░░░ their advantage anymore GRUBER ░░░░░░░░ they always do right ░░░░░░░░ The fact is we ░░░░░░░░ saying free and fair ░░░░░░░░ and a lot of ░░░░░░░░ states just don t ░░░░░░░░ it at this point.”
