BERMAN With me now ░░░░░░░░ Barron Lopez White House ░░░░░░░░ for PBS NewsHour and ░░░░░░░░ Herndon national political Reporter ░░░░░░░░ The New York Times ░░░░░░░░ CNN political analysts There ░░░░░░░░ this this drumbeat HERNDON ░░░░░░░░ BERMAN of a Trump ░░░░░░░░ term would be a ░░░░░░░░ to democracy that we ░░░░░░░░ hearing really I d ░░░░░░░░ it s getting louder ░░░░░░░░ the last week You ░░░░░░░░ got this opinion piece ░░░░░░░░ The Washington Post in ░░░░░░░░ Atlantic and a news ░░░░░░░░ in The New York ░░░░░░░░ which just flat out ░░░░░░░░ at what the policies ░░░░░░░░ be This is in ░░░░░░░░ paper and today they ░░░░░░░░ more than anything else ░░░░░░░░ Trump s vowed to ░░░░░░░░ the Justice Department to ░░░░░░░░ vengeance against his adversaries ░░░░░░░░ a naked challenge to ░░░░░░░░ values HERNSON I think ░░░░░░░░ is a growing realization ░░░░░░░░ people are taking Trump ░░░░░░░░ word seriously Over the ░░░░░░░░ of this year I ░░░░░░░░ there s been a ░░░░░░░░ realization that this is ░░░░░░░░ person likely to be ░░░░░░░░ Republican nominee But this ░░░░░░░░ not the same candidate ░░░░░░░░ think from 2016 and ░░░░░░░░ This is someone who ░░░░░░░░ escalated that sense of ░░░░░░░░ and is now promising ░░░░░░░░ to truly put these ░░░░░░░░ into action My colleagues ░░░░░░░░ have been focusing on ░░░░░░░░ s 2025 really lay ░░░░░░░░ three areas where he ░░░░░░░░ really shift in comparison ░░░░░░░░ what the Trump we ░░░░░░░░ as presidency that goes ░░░░░░░░ kind of weaponizing the ░░░░░░░░ Department kind of as ░░░░░░░░ heard those sort of ░░░░░░░░ the swamp fill fill ░░░░░░░░ bureaucratic jobs with some ░░░░░░░░ who are more supportive ░░░░░░░░ Trump but it also ░░░░░░░░ to expanding military powers ░░░░░░░░ immigration and most importantly ░░░░░░░░ the general expansion of ░░░░░░░░ power This is a ░░░░░░░░ who s really pushing ░░░░░░░░ really unify power in ░░░░░░░░ executive Branch and really ░░░░░░░░ after the kind of ░░░░░░░░ and balances that have ░░░░░░░░ American democracy for a ░░░░░░░░ time So although it ░░░░░░░░ of feels like a ░░░░░░░░ a presidential race that ░░░░░░░░ feature Biden versus Trump ░░░░░░░░ I think that s ░░░░░░░░ mistake This is a ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump This is ░░░░░░░░ radicalized Donald Trump.”
