HARLOW This morning five ░░░░░░░░ deemed wrongfully detained in ░░░░░░░░ are now one step ░░░░░░░░ to coming home This ░░░░░░░░ as the Biden Administration ░░░░░░░░ issued a waiver and ░░░░░░░░ allows international banks to ░░░░░░░░ a total of 6 ░░░░░░░░ in frozen Iranian funds ░░░░░░░░ South Korea to Qatar ░░░░░░░░ sanctions United States also ░░░░░░░░ to release five detained ░░░░░░░░ citizens This is all ░░░░░░░░ of the broader deal ░░░░░░░░ Bertrand has been following ░░░░░░░░ very closely This was ░░░░░░░░ right It s getting ░░░░░░░░ lot of criticism from ░░░░░░░░ on the Hill but ░░░░░░░░ was a necessary step ░░░░░░░░ try to bring them ░░░░░░░░ I think the question ░░░░░░░░ morning is when will ░░░░░░░░ come home BERTRAND Yeah ░░░░░░░░ Well the White House ░░░░░░░░ us in a statement ░░░░░░░░ night that no Americans ░░░░░░░░ be released into U ░░░░░░░░ custody this week It ░░░░░░░░ unclear when they will ░░░░░░░░ But this waiver is ░░░░░░░░ key step in the ░░░░░░░░ Secretary of state Antony ░░░░░░░░ he approved that waiver ░░░░░░░░ last week and that ░░░░░░░░ banks in Germany Ireland ░░░░░░░░ South Korea and Switzerland ░░░░░░░░ transfer that 6 billion ░░░░░░░░ restricted Iranian funds to ░░░░░░░░ in Qatar without fear ░░░░░░░░ sanctions That is key ░░░░░░░░ waiver is a sign ░░░░░░░░ a deal with Iran ░░░░░░░░ free those five Americans ░░░░░░░░ have been deemed wrongfully ░░░░░░░░ by the State Department ░░░░░░░░ moving forward In a ░░░░░░░░ to Congress detailing that ░░░░░░░░ Blinken also confirmed that ░░░░░░░░ part of the deal ░░░░░░░░ U S has committed ░░░░░░░░ release five Iranian nationals ░░░░░░░░ detained in the U ░░░░░░░░ meaning that there is ░░░░░░░░ prisoner swap aspect to ░░░░░░░░ agreement Now as you ░░░░░░░░ the prospective deal has ░░░░░░░░ spurred some criticism from ░░░░░░░░ in Congress who say ░░░░░░░░ re opposed to releasing ░░░░░░░░ money to Iran in ░░░░░░░░ for these detainees But ░░░░░░░░ administration they really stressed ░░░░░░░░ the funds that Iran ░░░░░░░░ receive can only be ░░░░░░░░ for humanitarian goods and ░░░░░░░░ will be dispersed by ░░░░░░░░ and overseen by the ░░░░░░░░ Department The officials have ░░░░░░░░ emphasized that the money ░░░░░░░░ Iran s money which ░░░░░░░░ been stored in South ░░░░░░░░ for several years and ░░░░░░░░ U S taxpayer money ░░░░░░░░ in a statement to ░░░░░░░░ on Monday night National ░░░░░░░░ Council spokesperson Adrian Watson ░░░░░░░░ the waiver as a ░░░░░░░░ step in ongoing process ░░░░░░░░ ensure Iranian funds can ░░░░░░░░ from one restricted account ░░░░░░░░ another and remain restricted ░░░░░░░░ humanitarian aid.’”
