Pence: The Need for Affirmative Action Is ‘Over’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT Jonathan thank ░░░░░░░░ both I spoke earlier ░░░░░░░░ vice president Mike Pence ░░░░░░░░ these major decisions Thank ░░░░░░░░ for joining us I ░░░░░░░░ to start with the ░░░░░░░░ Supreme Court decisions Thank ░░░░░░░░ jon Good to be ░░░░░░░░ Jonathan specifically the decision ░░░░░░░░ affirmative action as we ░░░░░░░░ it I understand you ░░░░░░░░ support this decision but ░░░░░░░░ the end result is ░░░░░░░░ America s most selective ░░░░░░░░ and universities have fewer ░░░░░░░░ and Hispanic students is ░░░░░░░░ a problem for America ░░░░░░░░ look I think I ░░░░░░░░ t be more proud ░░░░░░░░ the progress we ve ░░░░░░░░ toward a more perfect ░░░░░░░░ in my lifetime The ░░░░░░░░ rights acts in the ░░░░░░░░ and I think there ░░░░░░░░ a time for affirmative ░░░░░░░░ jon to open the ░░░░░░░░ of our colleges and ░░░░░░░░ to minority students and ░░░░░░░░ African Americans who may ░░░░░░░░ been denied access but ░░░░░░░░ think those days are ░░░░░░░░ you know it was ░░░░░░░░ sandra day o connor ░░░░░░░░ more than 20 years ░░░░░░░░ who said she thought ░░░░░░░░ action would go away ░░░░░░░░ 25 years It went ░░░░░░░░ a little sooner than ░░░░░░░░ and I think that ░░░░░░░░ a tribute that ouro ░░░░░░░░ minority students to African ░░░░░░░░ students and Asian American ░░░░░░░░ and Hispanic students The ░░░░░░░░ Court decision today was ░░░░░░░░ acknowledgment of the incredible ░░░░░░░░ that Americans have made ░░░░░░░░ extraordinary educational achievements and ░░░░░░░░ have every confidence that ░░░░░░░░ Americans and other minority ░░░░░░░░ are going to continue ░░░░░░░░ compete and succeed in ░░░░░░░░ around the country but ░░░░░░░░ re going to do ░░░░░░░░ with a colorblind society ░░░░░░░░ I think is the ░░░░░░░░ of every American Jonathan ░░░░░░░░ you didn t answer ░░░░░░░░ question We ve seen ░░░░░░░░ has happened in nine ░░░░░░░░ that have banned affirmative ░░░░░░░░ We ve seen in ░░░░░░░░ and California and Florida ░░░░░░░░ after affirmative action was ░░░░░░░░ away with the result ░░░░░░░░ that you saw fewer ░░░░░░░░ and black students at ░░░░░░░░ elite universities So again ░░░░░░░░ question to you if ░░░░░░░░ is the result here ░░░░░░░░ that a concern Is ░░░░░░░░ a concern for you ░░░░░░░░ just look I haven ░░░░░░░░ seen your studies I ░░░░░░░░ t know the numbers ░░░░░░░░ job I ever had ░░░░░░░░ as an admissions counselor ░░░░░░░░ the college I graduated ░░░░░░░░ and I m just ░░░░░░░░ confident with the progress ░░░░░░░░ we have made now ░░░░░░░░ 2023 a fourth of ░░░░░░░░ way through the 21st ░░░░░░░░ the achievements of African ░░░░░░░░ leaving aside the achievements ░░░░░░░░ the first African American ░░░░░░░░ and African Americans all ░░░░░░░░ the country I m ░░░░░░░░ confident that African Americans ░░░░░░░░ Americans and other minorities ░░░░░░░░ going to be able ░░░░░░░░ compete and succeed but ░░░░░░░░ re going to be ░░░░░░░░ to do it with ░░░░░░░░ Martin Luther King jr ░░░░░░░░ vision in place It know I ░░░░░░░░ got two service members ░░░░░░░░ our immediate family The ░░░░░░░░ military has been has ░░░░░░░░ an instrument of advanceing ░░░░░░░░ since virtually the founding ░░░░░░░░ this country I mean ░░░░░░░░ were African American officers ░░░░░░░░ new England regiments in ░░░░░░░░ revolutionary war that we ░░░░░░░░ be celebrating on independence ░░░░░░░░ and the military has ░░░░░░░░ its door you know ░░░░░░░░ celebrate and I m ░░░░░░░░ that we appointed him ░░░░░░░░ the joint chiefs I ░░░░░░░░ our new chairman of ░░░░░░░░ joint chiefs of staff ░░░░░░░░ first the first ░░░░░░░░ use race as a ░░░░░░░░ in admissions Shouldn t ░░░░░░░░ you agree that this ░░░░░░░░ the way it should ░░░░░░░░ for universities across the ░░░░░░░░ shouldn t it also ░░░░░░░░ to the military academies ░░░░░░░░ the carveout Well you ░░░░░░░░ I would refer your ░░░░░░░░ to the decision itself ░░░░░░░░ but I just have ░░░░░░░░ tell you I m ░░░░░░░░ pleased to see the ░░░░░░░░ Court so strengthened by ░░░░░░░░ of the conservative justices ░░░░░░░░ we appointed This week ░░░░░░░░ up to in this ░░░░░░░░ and other critical cases ░░░░░░░░ vision for this country ░░░░░░░░ is really
