McCarthy on House Passing Debt Bill: ‘We Made History,’ ‘The Biggest Cut and Savings Congress Has Ever Voted For’

McCarthy I ve been ░░░░░░░░ about this before my ░░░░░░░░ for speaker because I ░░░░░░░░ the debt ceiling was ░░░░░░░░ I wanted to make ░░░░░░░░ I wanted to do ░░░░░░░░ no other Congress has ░░░░░░░░ That we would literally ░░░░░░░░ the ship That for ░░░░░░░░ first time in quite ░░░░░░░░ time we d spend ░░░░░░░░ than we spent the ░░░░░░░░ before Tonight we all ░░░░░░░░ history Because this is ░░░░░░░░ biggest cut and savings ░░░░░░░░ Congress has ever voted ░░░░░░░░ And it s not ░░░░░░░░ we re just voting ░░░░░░░░ it This is going ░░░░░░░░ be law 2 1 ░░░░░░░░ you ve all covered ░░░░░░░░ entire battle You were ░░░░░░░░ on February 1st when ░░░░░░░░ walked out after talking ░░░░░░░░ the president I was ░░░░░░░░ of hopeful because he ░░░░░░░░ me in that meeting ░░░░░░░░ would meet again He ░░░░░░░░ next to me at ░░░░░░░░ prayer breakfast the next ░░░░░░░░ He told the entire ░░░░░░░░ that we would meet ░░░░░░░░ But for 97 days ░░░░░░░░ said no People look ░░░░░░░░ me and say why ░░░░░░░░ you always an optimist ░░░░░░░░ I know as an ░░░░░░░░ tomorrow will be better ░░░░░░░░ today I had to ░░░░░░░░ an optimist that every ░░░░░░░░ I woke up and ░░░░░░░░ Maybe today the president ░░░░░░░░ change his mind Maybe ░░░░░░░░ he would want to ░░░░░░░░ the country first maybe ░░░░░░░░ he d want to ░░░░░░░░ But he never did ░░░░░░░░ until our entire conference ░░░░░░░░ the bill The Senate ░░░░░░░░ did It took no ░░░░░░░░ The Democrats plan was ░░░░░░░░ do a discharge petition ░░░░░░░░ only raise the debt ░░░░░░░░ and we would have ░░░░░░░░ savings It would take ░░░░░░░░ further off the cliff ░░░░░░░░ when I finally got ░░░░░░░░ meet with the president ░░░░░░░░ couldn t talk about ░░░░░░░░ entire budget We couldn ░░░░░░░░ talk about and look ░░░░░░░░ places where we could ░░░░░░░░ savings We could only ░░░░░░░░ on 11 of the ░░░░░░░░ But of that 11 ░░░░░░░░ only did we give ░░░░░░░░ the greatest savings in ░░░░░░░░ history There will be ░░░░░░░░ who are on welfare ░░░░░░░░ that will no longer ░░░░░░░░ on welfare that they ░░░░░░░░ find a job because ░░░░░░░░ work requirement And not ░░░░░░░░ when they find that ░░░░░░░░ their self worth their ░░░░░░░░ are going to change ░░░░░░░░ are gong to believe ░░░░░░░░ themselves they will be ░░░░░░░░ to buy a house ░░░░░░░░ send their kids to ░░░░░░░░ because of the vote ░░░░░░░░ took tonight Because of ░░░░░░░░ vote we took tonight ░░░░░░░░ largest rescissions in American ░░░░░░░░ All of the Covid ░░░░░░░░ the billions of dollars ░░░░░░░░ out there that they ░░░░░░░░ they would never bring ░░░░░░░░ you know what to ░░░░░░░░ taxpayer to you hardworking ░░░░░░░░ we stood for you ░░░░░░░░ brought that money back ░░░░░░░░ those who are afraid ░░░░░░░░ are going to get ░░░░░░░░ because the president wants ░░░░░░░░ have 87 000 new ░░░░░░░░ agents right now he ░░░░░░░░ zero We took every ░░░░░░░░ dollar they were gonna ░░░░░░░░ somebody this year away ░░░░░░░░ I ll promise you ░░░░░░░░ ll be back next ░░░░░░░░ and next year and ░░░░░░░░ year because I believe ░░░░░░░░ should be here to ░░░░░░░░ you not go after ░░░░░░░░ We did not just ░░░░░░░░ the money from this ░░░░░░░░ We took another 20 ░░░░░░░░ I think we should ░░░░░░░░ some more border agents ░░░░░░░░ that 20 billion I ░░░░░░░░ that s where America ░░░░░░░░ want to see us ░░░░░░░░ We capped the ability ░░░░░░░░ growth of spending in ░░░░░░░░ for the next years ░░░░░░░░ are holding people accountable ░░░░░░░░ do the work you ░░░░░░░░ supposed to do as ░░░░░░░░ member Otherwise cuts across ░░░░░░░░ board We are unshackling ░░░░░░░░ holds ░░░░░░░░ road You can do ░░░░░░░░ in one or two ░░░░░░░░ it s not just ░░░░░░░░ bridges it s not ░░░░░░░░ the roads it s ░░░░░░░░ energy projects that will ░░░░░░░░ us energy independent We ░░░░░░░░ 400 million going from ░░░░░░░░ CDC global health fund ░░░░░░░░ to Americans but taken ░░░░░░░░ money to send it ░░░░░░░░ China I believe in ░░░░░░░░ after America first More ░░░░░░░░ two thirds of our ░░░░░░░░ voted for it We ░░░░░░░░ all the Democrats who ░░░░░░░░ the discharge petition to ░░░░░░░░ that they would never ░░░░░░░░ the debt ceiling only ░░░░░░░░ it clean It got ░░░░░░░░ to vote are weak ░░░░░░░░ crime to make our ░░░░░░░░ safer Tonight I hope ░░░░░░░░ proved it to you ░░░░░░░░ that we put the ░░░░░░░░ of America first But ░░░░░░░░ didn t do it ░░░░░░░░ taking the easy way ░░░░░░░░ didn t do it ░░░░░░░░ the ways of people ░░░░░░░░ it in the past ░░░░░░░░ just lifting it We ░░░░░░░░ that you had to ░░░░░░░░ less and we achieved ░░░░░░░░ goal Is it everything ░░░░░░░░ wanted No But sitting ░░░░░░░░ one House the Democratic ░░░░░░░░ and a Democratic president ░░░░░░░░ did not want to ░░░░░░░░ with us I think ░░░░░░░░ did pretty dang good ░░░░░░░░ the American public
