TAPPER Hundreds of demonstrators ░░░░░░░░ protesting a decision by ░░░░░░░░ Governor Ron DeSantis banning ░░░░░░░░ public schools from teaching ░░░░░░░░ Advanced Placement African American ░░░░░░░░ course DeSantis argues that ░░░░░░░░ course is indoctrinating kids ░░░░░░░░ including concepts such as ░░░░░░░░ theory though critics of ░░░░░░░░ argue that prominent black ░░░░░░░░ gay voices such as ░░░░░░░░ Baldwin or Bayard Rustin ░░░░░░░░ be recognized in such ░░░░░░░░ course And as CNN ░░░░░░░░ Leyla Santiago reports for ░░░░░░░░ now Governor DeSantis is ░░░░░░░░ threatening to completely withdraw ░░░░░░░░ funding for all AP ░░░░░░░░ Clip starts Santiago voice ░░░░░░░░ Hundreds of protesters gather ░░░░░░░░ the Florida state capital ░░░░░░░░ SPEAKERS We won t ░░░░░░░░ won t take it ░░░░░░░░ Santiago voice over including ░░░░░░░░ leaders from around the ░░░░░░░░ condemning the Governor s ░░░░░░░░ to block a college ░░░░░░░░ African American Studies course ░░░░░░░░ high schools Sharpton Our ░░░░░░░░ need to know your ░░░░░░░░ story not to not ░░░░░░░░ know how bad you ░░░░░░░░ but to know how ░░░░░░░░ they are Santiago voice ░░░░░░░░ This just days after ░░░░░░░░ Governor Ron DeSantis suggested ░░░░░░░░ state might reevaluate its ░░░░░░░░ with the College Board ░░░░░░░░ administers Advanced Placement or ░░░░░░░░ elective classes and the ░░░░░░░░ in Florida DeSantis Does ░░░░░░░░ have to be done ░░░░░░░░ the College Board or ░░░░░░░░ we utilize some of ░░░░░░░░ other providers who I ░░░░░░░░ have a really really ░░░░░░░░ track record Turns out ░░░░░░░░ are IB courses they ░░░░░░░░ actually more rigorous than ░░░░░░░░ and the colleges accept ░░░░░░░░ You have the Cambridge ░░░░░░░░ is also more rigorous ░░░░░░░░ voice over The College ░░░░░░░░ is the sole provider ░░░░░░░░ AP classes and tests ░░░░░░░░ a move to get ░░░░░░░░ of them could affect ░░░░░░░░ across the state of ░░░░░░░░ CUMMINGS They want to ░░░░░░░░ rid of it all ░░░░░░░░ the classes and that ░░░░░░░░ greatly disadvantage everybody in ░░░░░░░░ Santiago voice over This ░░░░░░░░ with the College Board ░░░░░░░░ from the state s ░░░░░░░░ to a proposed AP ░░░░░░░░ on African American Studies ░░░░░░░░ Florida Department of Education ░░░░░░░░ concern about several topics ░░░░░░░░ study in its pilot ░░░░░░░░ including Black Queer Studies ░░░░░░░░ movements for Black Lives ░░░░░░░░ Black feminism They also ░░░░░░░░ concerns with the works ░░░░░░░░ specific authors and scholars ░░░░░░░░ College Board later released ░░░░░░░░ official framework for the ░░░░░░░░ with many of the ░░░░░░░░ that the state of ░░░░░░░░ objected to removed Instead ░░░░░░░░ can take them on ░░░░░░░░ part of a required ░░░░░░░░ project But the two ░░░░░░░░ are still at odds ░░░░░░░░ what prompted the changes ░░░░░░░░ state claims their objections ░░░░░░░░ them while the College ░░░░░░░░ asserts that politics did ░░░░░░░░ play a role in ░░░░░░░░ final framework for the ░░░░░░░░ and has even accused ░░░░░░░░ Department of Education of ░░░░░░░░ Under DeSantis Florida has ░░░░░░░░ the teaching of Critical ░░░░░░░░ Theory and passed new ░░░░░░░░ barring instruction that suggests ░░░░░░░░ is privileged or oppressed ░░░░░░░░ on their race or ░░░░░░░░ color SLADE We are ░░░░░░░░ tired as hell of ░░░░░░░░ telling us how to ░░░░░░░░ our history Black history ░░░░░░░░ everybody s history It ░░░░░░░░ American history Clip ends ░░░░░░░░ And Jake those who ░░░░░░░░ here today to March ░░░░░░░░ this was about more ░░░░░░░░ protesting This was about ░░░░░░░░ change As for that ░░░░░░░░ course the Department of ░░░░░░░░ says that the College ░░░░░░░░ has not submitted the ░░░░░░░░ framework for the course ░░░░░░░░ be reviewed Jake TAPPER ░░░░░░░░ right Leyla Santiago in ░░░░░░░░ Florida.
