Charlie Crist: I Left GOP Because its Racism Made Me Uncomfortable

RAMOS As a politician ░░░░░░░░ it difficult to get ░░░░░░░░ of that image that ░░░░░░░░ re flip flopping That ░░░░░░░░ were a Republican and ░░░░░░░░ you were independent and ░░░░░░░░ a Democrat CRIST Really ░░░░░░░░ only thing that s ░░░░░░░░ about me is my ░░░░░░░░ affiliation When I saw ░░░░░░░░ was happening with the ░░░░░░░░ Party Jeb Bush said ░░░░░░░░ better than anybody could ░░░░░░░░ it he said it ░░░░░░░░ than I could They ░░░░░░░░ perceived now as being ░░░░░░░░ women anti immigrant anti ░░░░░░░░ anti gay anti education ░░░░░░░░ environment You know I ░░░░░░░░ wasn t comfortable being ░░░░░░░░ with myself my core ░░░░░░░░ RAMOS That s not ░░░░░░░░ you left Republican Party ░░░░░░░░ Yes it is Yes ░░░░░░░░ is RAMOS You left ░░░░░░░░ Republican Party because you ░░░░░░░░ going to lose to ░░░░░░░░ Rubio CRIST No it ░░░░░░░░ because I couldn t ░░░░░░░░ consistent with myself and ░░░░░░░░ core beliefs and stay ░░░░░░░░ a party that was ░░░░░░░░ unfriendly toward the African ░░░░░░░░ president I ll just ░░░░░░░░ there You know because ░░░░░░░░ was a Republican and ░░░░░░░░ saw the activists and ░░░░░░░░ they were doing it ░░░░░░░░ intolerable to me And ░░░░░░░░ saw how the party ░░░░░░░░ of them were treating ░░░░░░░░ African American president and ░░░░░░░░ couldn t take it ░░░░░░░░ That s a big ░░░░░░░░ of why I left ░░░░░░░░ party RAMOS Now you ░░░░░░░░ supporting ObamaCare right now ░░░░░░░░ Always RAMOS But not ░░░░░░░░ I mean once ObamaCare ░░░░░░░░ became law you tweeted ░░░░░░░░ couple of times saying ░░░░░░░░ you did not support ░░░░░░░░ So CRIST It s ░░░░░░░░ fair point I think ░░░░░░░░ of this in the ░░░░░░░░ of something big like ░░░░░░░░ happening until you can ░░░░░░░░ really comfortable with it ░░░░░░░░ s hard to embrace ░░░░░░░░ I fully embrace it ░░░░░░░░ know it s the ░░░░░░░░ thing to do RAMOS ░░░░░░░░ you didn t before ░░░░░░░░ But we re talking ░░░░░░░░ the future RAMOS Yeah ░░░░░░░░ I mean that s ░░░░░░░░ image When we started ░░░░░░░░ conversation that s exactly ░░░░░░░░ I was mentioning that ░░░░░░░░ might have two different ░░░░░░░░ and people might be ░░░░░░░░ with that CRIST I ░░░░░░░░ t think they re ░░░░░░░░ at all I think ░░░░░░░░ s why we re ░░░░░░░░ well in the polls ░░░░░░░░ think that s why ░░░░░░░░ fundraising is going so ░░░░░░░░ I think the people ░░░░░░░░ Florida understand what Charlie ░░░░░░░░ stands for I ll ░░░░░░░░ their back I ll ░░░░░░░░ their education and our ░░░░░░░░ teachers I ll make ░░░░░░░░ we protect their environment ░░░░░░░░ we go to solar ░░░░░░░░ These are the kinds ░░░░░░░░ things I think we ░░░░░░░░ to do to make ░░░░░░░░ great And I know ░░░░░░░░ is great And if ░░░░░░░░ stay on that path ░░░░░░░░ provide health care and ░░░░░░░░ the kinds of things ░░░░░░░░ this great president is ░░░░░░░░ to do for our ░░░░░░░░ this will be a ░░░░░░░░ place and RAMOS So ░░░░░░░░ me ask you in ░░░░░░░░ tuition that s just ░░░░░░░░ latest supporting state tuition ░░░░░░░░ you didn t support ░░░░░░░░ before CRIST I support ░░░░░░░░ today And I ll ░░░░░░░░ you why RAMOS But ░░░░░░░░ didn t before CRIST ░░░░░░░░ didn t say I ░░░░░░░░ t I agreed with ░░░░░░░░ The point is we ░░░░░░░░ to do what s ░░░░░░░░ for America and we ░░░░░░░░ to do what s ░░░░░░░░ for Florida in my ░░░░░░░░ today and going forward ░░░░░░░░ president had a great ░░░░░░░░ in the campaign right ░░░░░░░░ the end Forward This ░░░░░░░░ about forward There s ░░░░░░░░ moments in time Jorge ░░░░░░░░ past present and future ░░░░░░░░ is a race about ░░░░░░░░ future RAMOS What happened ░░░░░░░░ before You didn t ░░░░░░░░ in state tuition for ░░░░░░░░ immigrants and now you ░░░░░░░░ CRIST It was difficult ░░░░░░░░ was a Republican and ░░░░░░░░ Republicans didn t like ░░░░░░░░ And I really felt ░░░░░░░░ a square point RAMOS ░░░░░░░░ were supporting the party ░░░░░░░░ CRIST May I RAMOS ░░░░░░░░ CRIST I really felt ░░░░░░░░ a round peg in ░░░░░░░░ square hole And so ░░░░░░░░ try to be a ░░░░░░░░ player and it wasn ░░░░░░░░ always comfortable for me ░░░░░░░░ I m being very ░░░░░░░░ with you But now ░░░░░░░░ I m liberated as ░░░░░░░░ Democrat my true soul ░░░░░░░░ able to be seen ░░░░░░░░ I couldn t be ░░░░░░░░ about it.”
