CNN’s Kirsten Powers Cuts Off Gun Reporter, Calls to Ban Assault Weapons: ‘This Is Like a Game You Guys Play’

GUTOWSKI Something has changed ░░░░░░░░ culturally or otherwise to ░░░░░░░░ to this what we ░░░░░░░░ now There hasn t ░░░░░░░░ necessarily a huge uptick ░░░░░░░░ the number of public ░░░░░░░░ killings with a gun ░░░░░░░░ the last since 2006 ░░░░░░░░ to the Associated Press ░░░░░░░░ But certainly yes there ░░░░░░░░ a difference between America ░░░░░░░░ a lot of other ░░░░░░░░ countries in terms of ░░░░░░░░ levels of gun of ░░░░░░░░ overall as well There ░░░░░░░░ there are significant differences ░░░░░░░░ I think there s ░░░░░░░░ lot of factors that ░░░░░░░░ into it I mean ░░░░░░░░ s hard to pick ░░░░░░░░ HUNT I mean is ░░░░░░░░ access to guns Or ░░░░░░░░ it a cultural thing ░░░░░░░░ has to do with ░░░░░░░░ than just the weapons ░░░░░░░░ people are because I ░░░░░░░░ there does seem to ░░░░░░░░ I mean I understand ░░░░░░░░ this very much divides ░░░░░░░░ including a lot of ░░░░░░░░ who read your publication ░░░░░░░░ are on the side ░░░░░░░░ allowing these weapons to ░░░░░░░░ legal But the reason ░░░░░░░░ you can kill so ░░░░░░░░ people so fast and ░░░░░░░░ example the Colorado shooting ░░░░░░░░ because people here have ░░░░░░░░ to assault weapons GUTOWSKI ░░░░░░░░ think it s a ░░░░░░░░ of access to guns ░░░░░░░░ certain people who oftentimes ░░░░░░░░ these situations have exhibited ░░░░░░░░ towards violence or in ░░░░░░░░ Colorado Springs shooter s ░░░░░░░░ committed what seemed to ░░░░░░░░ felonies which should have ░░░░░░░░ prosecuted and made them ░░░░░░░░ to own firearms for ░░░░░░░░ had he had the ░░░░░░░░ been convicted HUNT Had ░░░░░░░░ followed through GUTOWSKI Yeah ░░░░░░░░ you do see that ░░░░░░░░ often in these situations ░░░░░░░░ think it s important ░░░░░░░░ look at them as ░░░░░░░░ situations if you re ░░░░░░░░ to find a policy ░░░░░░░░ to the shootings because ░░░░░░░░ the outcome is horrific ░░░░░░░░ all of these situations ░░░░░░░░ details are rather different ░░░░░░░░ Springs was somebody who ░░░░░░░░ should have been prevented ░░░░░░░░ owning guns based on ░░░░░░░░ criminal history what he ░░░░░░░░ done with the bomb ░░░░░░░░ and threatening police and ░░░░░░░░ mother but wasn t ░░░░░░░░ used an AR 15 ░░░░░░░░ a handgun Whereas in ░░░░░░░░ Walmart shooting we don ░░░░░░░░ know yet the background ░░░░░░░░ that attacker HUNT Right ░░░░░░░░ And he used a ░░░░░░░░ Both states had red ░░░░░░░░ laws but they weren ░░░░░░░░ implemented We don t ░░░░░░░░ exactly why for either ░░░░░░░░ Both had universal background ░░░░░░░░ Neither had a ban ░░░░░░░░ AR 15s There s ░░░░░░░░ lot that goes into ░░░░░░░░ think the details of ░░░░░░░░ situations if you re ░░░░░░░░ to come up with ░░░░░░░░ policy solution to solve ░░░░░░░░ issues HUNT Right But ░░░░░░░░ mean I think Kirsten ░░░░░░░░ the Democrat on the ░░░░░░░░ but as someone who ░░░░░░░░ who understands and has ░░░░░░░░ on campaigns in areas ░░░░░░░░ Second Amendment rights are ░░░░░░░░ always a cut and ░░░░░░░░ issue I mean people ░░░░░░░░ just sick of this ░░░░░░░░ are so sick of ░░░░░░░░ And there s no ░░░░░░░░ to change it beyond ░░░░░░░░ mean obviously Chris Murphy ░░░░░░░░ as Doug noted a ░░░░░░░░ with Republicans in the ░░░░░░░░ to make some changes ░░░░░░░░ the wake of the ░░░░░░░░ shooting Is there a ░░░░░░░░ out there that can ░░░░░░░░ what is happening in ░░░░░░░░ Or is there not ░░░░░░░░ Well I mean one ░░░░░░░░ the things that have ░░░░░░░░ in the last couple ░░░░░░░░ decades is the assault ░░░░░░░░ ban expired And that ░░░░░░░░ something that Republicans have ░░░░░░░░ when the Democrats have ░░░░░░░░ it up before I ░░░░░░░░ t have any trouble ░░░░░░░░ that the problem is ░░░░░░░░ guns HUNT Yes POWERS ░░░░░░░░ mentally unwell people exist ░░░░░░░░ And another big difference ░░░░░░░░ the United States and ░░░░░░░░ countries is they actually ░░░░░░░░ services for mentally unwell ░░░░░░░░ And this is another ░░░░░░░░ that Republicans always bring ░░░░░░░░ whenever there s a ░░░░░░░░ shooting but never have ░░░░░░░░ to say about any ░░░░░░░░ time of the year ░░░░░░░░ Democrats are trying to ░░░░░░░░ bills to expand mental ░░░░░░░░ services whether it s ░░░░░░░░ expanding Medicaid whether it ░░░░░░░░ through ObamaCare whether it ░░░░░░░░ through specific mental health ░░░░░░░░ Republicans are opposing them ░░░░░░░░ to sit here and ░░░░░░░░ like there s nothing ░░░░░░░░ can do There are ░░░░░░░░ many things that we ░░░░░░░░ do I grew up ░░░░░░░░ a house in Alaska ░░░░░░░░ dozens of guns So ░░░░░░░░ s not as though ░░░░░░░░ don t understand guns ░░░░░░░░ I didn t grow ░░░░░░░░ around I mean everybody ░░░░░░░░ knew had a gun ░░░░░░░░ Everybody hunted And most ░░░░░░░░ those people would often ░░░░░░░░ mean if my father ░░░░░░░░ still alive and he ░░░░░░░░ sitting here he would ░░░░░░░░ Get rid of the ░░░░░░░░ power weapons They re ░░░░░░░░ down people That s ░░░░░░░░ he would say It ░░░░░░░░ not there is no ░░░░░░░░ for this And when ░░░░░░░░ was growing up we ░░░░░░░░ shotguns That s what ░░░░░░░░ used Now suddenly everybody ░░░░░░░░ they have to be ░░░░░░░░ and that they have ░░░░░░░░ constitutional right to be ░░░░░░░░ Constitutional rights have limits ░░░░░░░░ just do You can ░░░░░░░░ yell Fire in a ░░░░░░░░ room And the idea ░░░░░░░░ we could never limit ░░░░░░░░ because people want to ░░░░░░░░ it because they like ░░░░░░░░ go to the range ░░░░░░░░ shoot it while children ░░░░░░░░ getting gunned down I ░░░░░░░░ sorry I just I ░░░░░░░░ t accept that GUTOWSKI ░░░░░░░░ mean for me HUNT ░░░░░░░░ briefly GUTOWSKI Yeah I ░░░░░░░░ think that the shootings ░░░░░░░░ mass
