GOLODRYGA And Sarah Kate ░░░░░░░░ isn t unfortunately a ░░░░░░░░ that s just isolated ░░░░░░░░ one city or one ░░░░░░░░ Just here in New ░░░░░░░░ City for example in ░░░░░░░░ area a neighborhood of ░░░░░░░░ s Kitchen there have ░░░░░░░░ more police activity and ░░░░░░░░ have been and resources ░░░░░░░░ been sent to that ░░░░░░░░ following a number of ░░░░░░░░ on an LGBTQ area ░░░░░░░░ in New York City ░░░░░░░░ York City and New ░░░░░░░░ state Colorado are typically ░░░░░░░░ friendly states What do ░░░░░░░░ in the community feel ░░░░░░░░ states that aren t ░░░░░░░░ friendly ELLIS You know ░░░░░░░░ think we re all ░░░░░░░░ it We all we ░░░░░░░░ in a dangerous society ░░░░░░░░ you are LGBTQ unfortunately ░░░░░░░░ with that said we ░░░░░░░░ survivors and we re ░░░░░░░░ So as a community ░░░░░░░░ always come together and ░░░░░░░░ lift each other up ░░░░░░░░ will say to that ░░░░░░░░ know we have been ░░░░░░░░ at GLAAD and we ░░░░░░░░ about to release a ░░░░░░░░ that in the past ░░░░░░░░ we ve seen 125 ░░░░░░░░ violent attacks or threats ░░░░░░░░ violent attacks against drag ░░░░░░░░ joyous drag events And ░░░░░░░░ is part of this ░░░░░░░░ machine that the right ░░░░░░░░ has started and that ░░░░░░░░ know social media is ░░░░░░░░ and so it s ░░░░░░░░ important for us as ░░░░░░░░ community to gather and ░░░░░░░░ have safe spaces to ░░░░░░░░ that in GOLODRYGA And ░░░░░░░░ talk about some of ░░░░░░░░ hateful rhetoric that can ░░░░░░░░ found and promoted on ░░░░░░░░ media sites but you ░░░░░░░░ note that the media ░░░░░░░░ be used in a ░░░░░░░░ way as well for ░░░░░░░░ general public to perhaps ░░░░░░░░ get to know people ░░░░░░░░ the LGBTQ community and ░░░░░░░░ that can dissipate some ░░░░░░░░ this hateful rhetoric and ░░░░░░░░ ELLIS Well I think ░░░░░░░░ s two pieces to ░░░░░░░░ One is I think ░░░░░░░░ the mainstream media s ░░░░░░░░ your coverage of this ░░░░░░░░ incident has been really ░░░░░░░░ and equitable and you ░░░░░░░░ addressing the club as ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ safe space you ░░░░░░░░ addressing the hate crime ░░░░░░░░ has been driving it ░░░░░░░░ so I think that ░░░░░░░░ s been really useful ░░░░░░░░ also social media has ░░░░░░░░ a place for our ░░░░░░░░ to gather to meet ░░░░░░░░ other when it hasn ░░░░░░░░ been safe out on ░░░░░░░░ streets or out in ░░░░░░░░ And so but over ░░░░░░░░ past several years what ░░░░░░░░ ve seen is that ░░░░░░░░ been weaponized against us ░░░░░░░░ you go on if ░░░░░░░░ are LGBTQ and you ░░░░░░░░ online and you re ░░░░░░░░ who you are you ░░░░░░░░ and expect to be ░░░░░░░░ online That s no ░░░░░░░░ to live GOLODRYGA Sarah ░░░░░░░░ Ellis thank you for ░░░░░░░░ the time.”
