the 43rd war ░░░░░░░░ b mohammed s financial ░░░░░░░░ head of u s ░░░░░░░░ affairs Mary kenny civic ░░░░░░░░ senior vice president Tom ░░░░░░░░ and neighborhood rightwood neighborhoods ░░░░░░░░ president faraz sardiga thank ░░░░░░░░ for the work that ░░░░░░░░ did thank you for ░░░░░░░░ Applause earlier today an ░░░░░░░░ was introduced to establish ░░░░░░░░ long term permanent version ░░░░░░░░ the city s expanded ░░░░░░░░ dining program and as ░░░░░░░░ of you recall we ░░░░░░░░ launched this initiative in ░░░░░░░░ to support our restaurants ░░░░░░░░ were deeply impacted by ░░░░░░░░ economic fallout during the ░░░░░░░░ at that time indoor ░░░░░░░░ was not an option ░░░░░░░░ so many restaurant tours ░░░░░░░░ advantage of the opportunity ░░░░░░░░ expand their offerings to ░░░░░░░░ outside they got very ░░░░░░░░ and even some of ░░░░░░░░ continued through that first ░░░░░░░░ and we want to ░░░░░░░░ sure that we continue ░░░░░░░░ do everything we can ░░░░░░░░ help the hospitality industry ░░░░░░░░ its footing and exceed ░░░░░░░░ pandemic levels and this ░░░░░░░░ another important step in ░░░░░░░░ direction making the expanded ░░░░░░░░ dining program permanent will ░░░░░░░░ what was once a ░░░░░░░░ into long term assistance ░░░░░░░░ result in the continuation ░░░░░░░░ creation of inviting dining ░░░░░░░░ throughout our neighborhoods throughout ░░░░░░░░ this ordinance eligible restaurants ░░░░░░░░ be able to responsibly ░░░░░░░░ their operations into the ░░░░░░░░ way and other private ░░░░░░░░ and further contribute to ░░░░░░░░ vibrancy of their communities ░░░░░░░░ want to thank commissioner ░░░░░░░░ and commissioner Meyer for ░░░░░░░░ collaboration on this important ░░░░░░░░ I also want to ░░░░░░░░ the many restauranteurs who ░░░░░░░░ out there who gave ░░░░░░░░ tremendous feedback over the ░░░░░░░░ of these last two ░░░░░░░░ about what worked what ░░░░░░░░ challenges were and we ░░░░░░░░ always working to be ░░░░░░░░ uh to the needs ░░░░░░░░ our residents and clearly ░░░░░░░░ hospitality industry given everything ░░░░░░░░ they ve gone through ░░░░░░░░ at the top of ░░░░░░░░ list and I m ░░░░░░░░ that this ordinance will ░░░░░░░░ them second another ordinance ░░░░░░░░ introduced that stands to ░░░░░░░░ support the north lawndale ░░░░░░░░ this measure would authorize ░░░░░░░░ 35 million in funding ░░░░░░░░ finance the construction of ░░░░░░░░ manor apartments a new ░░░░░░░░ affordable housing development in ░░░░░░░░ 24th ward represented by ░░░░░░░░ monique Scott there was ░░░░░░░░ lot of conversation today ░░░░░░░░ city council about affordability ░░░░░░░░ ve been taking concrete ░░░░░░░░ steps from day one ░░░░░░░░ this administration to address ░░░░░░░░ huge affordable housing deficit ░░░░░░░░ we inherited and this ░░░░░░░░ another step in the ░░░░░░░░ direction I want to ░░░░░░░░ congratulations to all norman ░░░░░░░░ this new six story ░░░░░░░░ will feature a ground ░░░░░░░░ devoted to residential amenities ░░░░░░░░ and community space as ░░░░░░░░ as the space for ░░░░░░░░ training and wealth building ░░░░░░░░ the remaining floors will ░░░░░░░░ 65 affordable housing units ░░░░░░░░ a mix of one ░░░░░░░░ two bedroom layouts as ░░░░░░░░ as a rooftop deck ░░░░░░░░ tenants to enjoy all ░░░░░░░░ our residents no matter ░░░░░░░░ neighborhood they live in ░░░░░░░░ access to high quality ░░░░░░░░ spaces that they can ░░░░░░░░ to live in and ░░░░░░░░ a family and we ░░░░░░░░ am hand the glove ░░░░░░░░ alderwoman Scott to make ░░░░░░░░ that we re creating ░░░░░░░░ kinds of opportunities to ░░░░░░░░ sure that people in ░░░░░░░░ lawndale and other communities ░░░░░░░░ our city have the ░░░░░░░░ to stay in their ░░░░░░░░ at an affordable rate ░░░░░░░░ m incredibly supportive of ░░░░░░░░ ordinance and will urge ░░░░░░░░ council to enable us ░░░░░░░░ make such an important ░░░░░░░░ in our north London ░░░░░░░░ I m confident that ░░░░░░░░ Scott also will be ░░░░░░░░ her colleagues because this ░░░░░░░░ a great opportunity for ░░░░░░░░ residents in her ward ░░░░░░░░ but absolutely not least ░░░░░░░░ have the great pleasure ░░░░░░░░ introducing our new 43rd ░░░░░░░░ alderman timmy knudsen you ░░░░░░░░ from him briefly on ░░░░░░░░ council floor let me ░░░░░░░░ you a little bit ░░░░░░░░ him he s truly ░░░░░░░░ himself out as an ░░░░░░░░ leader already within the ░░░░░░░░ ward community for years ░░░░░░░░ has worked as a ░░░░░░░░ grassroots organizer having organized ░░░░░░░░ large food drive during ░░░░░░░░ pandemic to support those ░░░░░░░░ food and security and ░░░░░░░░ multiple times as a ░░░░░░░░ voter protection officer on ░░░░░░░░ days alderman knudsen also ░░░░░░░░ to us from the ░░░░░░░░ world where he has ░░░░░░░░ to help other people ░░░░░░░░ just paying clients for ░░░░░░░░ he provided counsel to ░░░░░░░░ startup companies founders and ░░░░░░░░ investors to help them ░░░░░░░░ challenges creatively and grow ░░░░░░░░ business furthermore through his ░░░░░░░░ firm alderman knudsen provided ░░░░░░░░ Bono services to over ░░░░░░░░ LGBT LGBTQ plus asylum ░░░░░░░░ in Chicago and tijuana ░░░░░░░░ I could go on ░░░░░░░░ I think his record ░░░░░░░░ speaks for himself it ░░░░░░░░ a dedicated track record ░░░░░░░░ success and engaging with ░░░░░░░░ of the 43rd world ░░░░░░░░ I got a lot ░░░░░░░░ positive feedback from community ░░░░░░░░ about his candidacy he ░░░░░░░░ a deep passion for ░░░░░░░░ and protecting those who ░░░░░░░░ often face social and ░░░░░░░░ barriers I want to ░░░░░░░░ him for stepping up ░░░░░░░░ also want to thank ░░░░░░░░ single other person who ░░░░░░░░ for this automatic position ░░░░░░░░ is a very important ░░░░░░░░ a lot of diversity ░░░░░░░░ lot of challenges I ░░░░░░░░ want to thank the ░░░░░░░░ organizations in the ward ░░░░░░░░ had great conversation with ░░░░░░░░ they are dedicated most ░░░░░░░░ them are working as ░░░░░░░░ they love their community ░░░░░░░░ to make sure that ░░░░░░░░ keep that community front ░░░░░░░░ center in everything that ░░░░░░░░ do and I think ░░░░░░░░ we have appointed and ░░░░░░░░ the city councils approve ░░░░░░░░ aldermen who will continue ░░░░░░░░ engage with them and ░░░░░░░░ sure the needs of ░░░░░░░░ residents and those community ░░░░░░░░ are front and center ░░░░░░░░ forward as we head ░░░░░░░░ challenging times for a ░░░░░░░░ city but challenging times ░░░░░░░░ a great deal of ░░░░░░░░ because people all over ░░░░░░░░ city are engaged as ░░░░░░░░ found in this process ░░░░░░░░ selecting the new 43rd ░░░░░░░░ alderman I also would ░░░░░░░░ to thank former alderman ░░░░░░░░ Smith for over 10 ░░░░░░░░ of exemplary service as ░░░░░░░░ 43rd ward alderman as ░░░░░░░░ said today former chairman ░░░░░░░░ has been truly an ░░░░░░░░ for the communities that ░░░░░░░░ represents and has undoubtedly ░░░░░░░░ a meaningful positive change ░░░░░░░░ the ward lots of ░░░░░░░░ happen in that ward ░░░░░░░░ the course of all ░░░░░░░░ woman Smith s tenure ░░░░░░░░ she handled all of ░░░░░░░░ challenges all the different ░░░░░░░░ with great ability to ░░░░░░░░ to bring people together ░░░░░░░░ consensus but also importantly ░░░░░░░░ leadership and I met ░░░░░░░░ I said alderman Smith ░░░░░░░░ only is a great ░░░░░░░░ for her award but ░░░░░░░░ also was an incredible ░░░░░░░░ for the entire city ░░░░░░░░ leadership will be missed ░░░░░░░░ I m hoping that ░░░░░░░░ will be able to ░░░░░░░░ her engaged in some ░░░░░░░░ activity as she enjoys ░░░░░░░░ retirement and now with ░░░░░░░░ it s my pleasure ░░░░░░░░ welcome the new 43rd ░░░░░░░░ alderman timmy knudsen alderman ░░░░░░░░ what a day thank ░░░░░░░░ mayor lightfoot it is ░░░░░░░░ the honor of a ░░░░░░░░ to be entrusted with ░░░░░░░░ opportunity to serve the ░░░░░░░░ ward community which I ░░░░░░░░ so proud to call ░░░░░░░░ it must not be ░░░░░░░░ on any of us ░░░░░░░░ the first black woman ░░░░░░░░ lead the city of ░░░░░░░░ and the highest ranking ░░░░░░░░ mayor in u s ░░░░░░░░ has blazed a trail ░░░░░░░░ the first openly gay ░░░░░░░░ of the 43rd ward ░░░░░░░░ I become the seventh ░░░░░░░░ of the LGBT lgbt ░░░░░░░░ in a city with ░░░░░░░░ 150 000 queer adults ░░░░░░░░ want to thank judge ░░░░░░░░ rose quinn I want ░░░░░░░░ thank alderman Smith and ░░░░░░░░ want to thank the ░░░░░░░░ ward selection committee for ░░░░░░░░ faith that was put ░░░░░░░░ me having the opportunity ░░░░░░░░ share my own experiences ░░░░░░░░ uplift those of other ░░░░░░░░ members of our community ░░░░░░░░ a responsibility that I ░░░░░░░░ so seriously and one ░░░░░░░░ rests on the shoulders ░░░░░░░░ many giants now allow ░░░░░░░░ to introduce myself I ░░░░░░░░ timmy knutson we can ░░░░░░░░ talking about the timmy ░░░░░░░░ it s timmy knutson ░░░░░░░░ with a hard k ░░░░░░░░ I m the alderman ░░░░░░░░ the 43rd ward of ░░░░░░░░ thank you my story ░░░░░░░░ in my hometown of ░░░░░░░░ Illinois my completely public ░░░░░░░░ education took me to ░░░░░░░░ where I earned a ░░░░░░░░ s and law degree ░░░░░░░░ the university of Illinois ░░░░░░░░ I ve got to ░░░░░░░░ a shout out orange ░░░░░░░░ blue the 43rd ward ░░░░░░░░ been home ever since ░░░░░░░░ for any of you ░░░░░░░░ are up super late ░░░░░░░░ night watching cable TV ░░░░░░░░ can probably find me ░░░░░░░░ an episode of house ░░░░░░░░ it s it s ░░░░░░░░ late at night or ░░░░░░░░ mute in your dentist ░░░░░░░░ throughout my career I ░░░░░░░░ a proven track record ░░░░░░░░ bringing private sector results ░░░░░░░░ public service as a ░░░░░░░░ and advocate I ve ░░░░░░░░ entrepreneurs grow their innovative ░░░░░░░░ and assisted dozens of ░░░░░░░░ people seeking asylum I ░░░░░░░░ collaborative community conversation around ░░░░░░░░ develops around local developments ░░░░░░░░ the chairman of the ░░░░░░░░ zoning board of appeals ░░░░░░░░ I ve heard from ░░░░░░░░ ward residents and advanced ░░░░░░░░ priorities through my grassroots ░░░░░░░░ for campaigns and other ░░░░░░░░ near to my heart ░░░░░░░░ aldermen I seek to ░░░░░░░░ an advocate and a ░░░░░░░░ builder that starts with ░░░░░░░░ a good listener I ░░░░░░░░ the last six weeks ░░░░░░░░ with residents one on ░░░░░░░░ to hear what s ░░░░░░░░ their mind related to ░░░░░░░░ current state of our ░░░░░░░░ and that s on ░░░░░░░░ of the last eight ░░░░░░░░ of working door to ░░░░░░░░ in the 43rd ward ░░░░░░░░ is clear to me ░░░░░░░░ that the 43rd ward ░░░░░░░░ fresh leadership neighbors have ░░░░░░░░ me they want an ░░░░░░░░ who will fight for ░░░░░░░░ safety in public schools ░░░░░░░░ open dialogue and champion ░░░░░░░░ community leaders and organizations ░░░░░░░░ every step of the ░░░░░░░░ as aldermen I will ░░░░░░░░ every day to answer ░░░░░░░░ call I m honored ░░░░░░░░ have a new way ░░░░░░░░ give back to the ░░░░░░░░ I call home and ░░░░░░░░ opportunity to bring a ░░░░░░░░ perspective to the 43rd ░░░░░░░░ and to Chicago city ░░░░░░░░ I look forward to ░░░░░░░░ relationships with my colleagues ░░░░░░░░ city hall and representing ░░░░░░░░ voices of the residents ░░░░░░░░ Lincoln park old town ░░░░░░░░ and the gold coast ░░░░░░░░ 43rd ward is filled ░░░░░░░░ Chicago s most beautiful ░░░░░░░░ historic streets and opportunities ░░░░░░░░ small businesses it is ░░░░░░░░ of families who want ░░░░░░░░ neighborhoods in the very ░░░░░░░░ schools for their children ░░░░░░░░ is brimming with a ░░░░░░░░ and an energy and ░░░░░░░░ possibility that inspires me ░░░░░░░░ single day I m ░░░░░░░░ looking forward to getting ░░░░░░░░ work for the people ░░░░░░░░ my neighbors in the ░░░░░░░░ ward and I want ░░░░░░░░ thank you all and ░░░░░░░░ I m going to ░░░░░░░░ commissioner biaggidy from the ░░░░░░░░ of Transportation thank you ░░░░░░░░ right thank you so ░░░░░░░░ of the things that ░░░░░░░░ wanted to just put ░░░░░░░░ finer point on is ░░░░░░░░ important this expanded outdoor ░░░░░░░░ ordinance uh is that ░░░░░░░░ introduced today back in ░░░░░░░░ as you can recall ░░░░░░░░ was a totally different ░░░░░░░░ we were trying to ░░░░░░░░ out how to throw ░░░░░░░░ lifeline to the restaurant ░░░░░░░░ and outdoor dining was ░░░░░░░░ way that we did ░░░░░░░░ putting our streets and ░░░░░░░░ sidewalks and something called ░░░░░░░░ curb lane which I ░░░░░░░░ explain in service of ░░░░░░░░ people needed and what ░░░░░░░░ wanted in a time ░░░░░░░░ we were just navigating ░░░░░░░░ together how to make ░░░░░░░░ that the restaurant industry ░░░░░░░░ t collapse and how ░░░░░░░░ make sure that chicagoans ░░░░░░░░ a place to go ░░░░░░░░ with enough space to ░░░░░░░░ the dining in their ░░░░░░░░ neighborhoods and in other ░░░░░░░░ across the city so ░░░░░░░░ started as a lifeline ░░░░░░░░ is now becoming something ░░░░░░░░ and as the mayor ░░░░░░░░ it s permanent in ░░░░░░░░ to what we ve ░░░░░░░░ able to learn over ░░░░░░░░ last couple of years ░░░░░░░░ administering this program so ░░░░░░░░ s a partnership between ░░░░░░░░ and bacp commissioner Meyer ░░░░░░░░ there to make sure ░░░░░░░░ this is a permanent ░░░░░░░░ that works for everyone ░░░░░░░░ s easier to use ░░░░░░░░ ve taken some of ░░░░░░░░ bureaucracy out of it ░░░░░░░░ it a simpler process ░░░░░░░░ also made it work ░░░░░░░░ for people who are ░░░░░░░░ and rolling and moving ░░░░░░░░ their neighborhoods so the ░░░░░░░░ establishes an outdoor dining ░░░░░░░░ permit issued by cdot ░░░░░░░░ that allows eligible restaurants ░░░░░░░░ operate on the roadway ░░░░░░░░ to their business it ░░░░░░░░ the same rules as ░░░░░░░░ in terms of you ░░░░░░░░ three groups three restaurants ░░░░░░░░ a restaurant and a ░░░░░░░░ and a tavern together ░░░░░░░░ apply for a permit ░░░░░░░░ right now you know ░░░░░░░░ have we ve served ░░░░░░░░ from 600 to 700 ░░░░░░░░ across the city across ░░░░░░░░ and dozens of locations ░░░░░░░░ these establishments full street ░░░░░░░░ would be allowed if ░░░░░░░░ makes sense in that ░░░░░░░░ through our review and ░░░░░░░░ with all of the ░░░░░░░░ departments as well as ░░░░░░░░ aldermen on making sure ░░░░░░░░ it works for everybody ░░░░░░░░ the neighborhoods but to ░░░░░░░░ ada accessibility one of ░░░░░░░░ things that we re ░░░░░░░░ now is a curb ░░░░░░░░ permit okay what is ░░░░░░░░ curve lane right you ░░░░░░░░ where the sidewalk is ░░░░░░░░ know where the curb ░░░░░░░░ and you know where ░░░░░░░░ typically drive your car ░░░░░░░░ s that space between ░░░░░░░░ travel lane and the ░░░░░░░░ itself and you probably ░░░░░░░░ through this program we ░░░░░░░░ were creating room for ░░░░░░░░ and having people walk ░░░░░░░░ that curb lane off ░░░░░░░░ curb and back on ░░░░░░░░ we recognize that we ░░░░░░░░ do better and so ░░░░░░░░ we are doing as ░░░░░░░░ of this outdoor dining ░░░░░░░░ ordinance is enabling the ░░░░░░░░ lane to be used ░░░░░░░░ that dining to make ░░░░░░░░ we still have sidewalk ░░░░░░░░ we want pedestrians and ░░░░░░░░ in wheelchairs and people ░░░░░░░░ trolls we want you ░░░░░░░░ the sidewalk and so ░░░░░░░░ will be a huge ░░░░░░░░ and it activates part ░░░░░░░░ the street that we ░░░░░░░░ t using before in ░░░░░░░░ large way for this ░░░░░░░░ of improvement so that ░░░░░░░░ mobility it makes it ░░░░░░░░ it increases ada accessibility ░░░░░░░░ s a big win ░░░░░░░░ the program so this ░░░░░░░░ complement a lot of ░░░░░░░░ city initiatives and in ░░░░░░░░ to our outdoor dining ░░░░░░░░ probably have heard about ░░░░░░░░ Chicago alfresco program which ░░░░░░░░ a way that we ░░░░░░░░ taken what works in ░░░░░░░░ and made it possible ░░░░░░░░ over the city to ░░░░░░░░ places for people to ░░░░░░░░ that is anchored by ░░░░░░░░ restaurant that is an ░░░░░░░░ and that is a ░░░░░░░░ with choose Chicago donors ░░░░░░░░ and then many neighborhoods ░░░░░░░░ Austin to humboldt park ░░░░░░░░ woodlawn and Rogers park ░░░░░░░░ Morgan park all over ░░░░░░░░ city and so this ░░░░░░░░ this evolution of the ░░░░░░░░ so at the end ░░░░░░░░ the day we re ░░░░░░░░ our streets in service ░░░░░░░░ what residents need and ░░░░░░░░ we are continuing to ░░░░░░░░ our restaurant industry and ░░░░░░░░ mayor lightfoot s leadership ░░░░░░░░ are making permanent a ░░░░░░░░ that really moves Chicago ░░░░░░░░ on so many levels ░░░░░░░░ I d be happy ░░░░░░░░ take questions in that ░░░░░░░░ when it s appropriate ░░░░░░░░ I think my last ░░░░░░░░ can take a look ░░░░░░░░ can take questions whatever ░░░░░░░░ boss is like thank ░░░░░░░░ let me uh say ░░░░░░░░ more thing before we ░░░░░░░░ your questions I neglected ░░░░░░░░ thank somebody who s ░░░░░░░░ important to the process ░░░░░░░░ selecting new alderman and ░░░░░░░░ is alderwoman Michelle Harris ░░░░░░░░ alderwoman Harris not only ░░░░░░░░ I think an important ░░░░░░░░ as these processes have ░░░░░░░░ forward she s also ░░░░░░░░ as a resource for ░░░░░░░░ committee but also a ░░░░░░░░ for the new alderman ░░░░░░░░ I just want to ░░░░░░░░ thank you all to ░░░░░░░░ Harris and now happy ░░░░░░░░ take your questions thanks ░░░░░░░░ appreciate it uh one ░░░░░░░░ per reporter asha and ░░░░░░░░ will be passing on ░░░░░░░░ mic uh we ll ░░░░░░░░ with mariah from wbz ░░░░░░░░ hi there how are ░░░░░░░░ good how are you ░░░░░░░░ in the back row ░░░░░░░░ you share your timeline ░░░░░░░░ plan for replacing chair ░░░░░░░░ Michelle Smith and chairman ░░░░░░░░ Scott on the ethics ░░░░░░░░ education committees please yeah ░░░░░░░░ we were aware that ░░░░░░░░ were some aldermen who ░░░░░░░░ going to be uh ░░░░░░░░ some that were going ░░░░░░░░ not run for re ░░░░░░░░ and so kind of ░░░░░░░░ to see um let ░░░░░░░░ process play itself out ░░░░░░░░ think we re probably ░░░░░░░░ to the end now ░░░░░░░░ we ll be taking ░░░░░░░░ steps to make sure ░░░░░░░░ we uh fill those ░░░░░░░░ is there a deadline ░░░░░░░░ you have no there ░░░░░░░░ no deadline like I ░░░░░░░░ I ve been waiting ░░░░░░░░ kind of get the ░░░░░░░░ word of folks who ░░░░░░░░ deciding us whether or ░░░░░░░░ they were going to ░░░░░░░░ I think I have ░░░░░░░░ sense of what that ░░░░░░░░ looks like now so ░░░░░░░░ ll be moving expeditiously ░░░░░░░░ this point to make ░░░░░░░░ that we fill those ░░░░░░░░ thanks mayor mallory wls ░░░░░░░░ ahead blue mayor I ░░░░░░░░ to get your comments ░░░░░░░░ state senator emile Jones ░░░░░░░░ betterly charged as well ░░░░░░░░ what it says about ░░░░░░░░ red light camera program ░░░░░░░░ maybe it s sucking ░░░░░░░░ I I m obviously ░░░░░░░░ that the charges were ░░░░░░░░ but I don t ░░░░░░░░ any of the substance ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ would be fair to ░░░░░░░░ or to the process ░░░░░░░░ dig into and speculate ░░░░░░░░ something I ve known ░░░░░░░░ not well but the ░░░░░░░░ interaction I ve had ░░░░░░░░ him has always been ░░░░░░░░ but I think we ░░░░░░░░ got to respect the ░░░░░░░░ I m assuming he ░░░░░░░░ made some statements about ░░░░░░░░ innocence we ve got ░░░░░░░░ respect that process and ░░░░░░░░ it play itself out ░░░░░░░░ Mary Justin crains hey ░░░░░░░░ next week you re ░░░░░░░░ to roll out some ░░░░░░░░ for lasalle street possibly ░░░░░░░░ public subsidies tiff money ░░░░░░░░ to help you know ░░░░░░░░ the gap in to ░░░░░░░░ some affordable housing on ░░░░░░░░ on the street uh ░░░░░░░░ you just why is ░░░░░░░░ important to use public ░░░░░░░░ to to help invest ░░░░░░░░ that street why is ░░░░░░░░ important to get residents ░░░░░░░░ there uh do those ░░░░░░░░ conversions you re getting ░░░░░░░░ little ahead of ourselves ░░░░░░░░ we haven t made ░░░░░░░░ official announcements so I ░░░░░░░░ not going to comment ░░░░░░░░ the substance but look ░░░░░░░░ know there s no ░░░░░░░░ that lasalle street I ░░░░░░░░ is an important iconic ░░░░░░░░ historic um stretch of ░░░░░░░░ central business district there ░░░░░░░░ been a lot of ░░░░░░░░ um with law firms ░░░░░░░░ banks moving to other ░░░░░░░░ um we want to ░░░░░░░░ make sure that that ░░░░░░░░ from really the board ░░░░░░░░ trade to whacker remains ░░░░░░░░ the Google announcement which ░░░░░░░░ the largest corporate expansion ░░░░░░░░ the downtown I think ░░░░░░░░ the history of our ░░░░░░░░ is really I think ░░░░░░░░ catching people s attention ░░░░░░░░ I think also gives ░░░░░░░░ a real opportunity to ░░░░░░░░ the vision uh for ░░░░░░░░ salle street so we ░░░░░░░░ those existing businesses but ░░░░░░░░ reimagine the opportunities for ░░░░░░░░ of those historic buildings ░░░░░░░░ I still call it ░░░░░░░░ bank but more recently ░░░░░░░░ of America obviously the ░░░░░░░░ of Illinois is going ░░░░░░░░ take occupancy in some ░░░░░░░░ those buildings but there ░░░░░░░░ much more that I ░░░░░░░░ we can and must ░░░░░░░░ particularly the rookery and ░░░░░░░░ spaces so we ll ░░░░░░░░ making some announcements soon ░░░░░░░░ then get into the ░░░░░░░░ of it at that ░░░░░░░░ correct wbbm hello mayor ░░░░░░░░ how are you all ░░░░░░░░ hope you re well ░░░░░░░░ you did make the ░░░░░░░░ of course about the ░░░░░░░░ the lawndale uh development ░░░░░░░░ for the bigger picture ░░░░░░░░ can you say to ░░░░░░░░ who ve been listening ░░░░░░░░ this debate about soccer ░░░░░░░░ and and housing in ░░░░░░░░ who are saying but ░░░░░░░░ re still getting promises ░░░░░░░░ we ve been getting ░░░░░░░░ for 20 years and ░░░░░░░░ it still doesn t ░░░░░░░░ to be moving that ░░░░░░░░ always seem to be ░░░░░░░░ other excuses or things ░░░░░░░░ are slowing things down ░░░░░░░░ I wouldn t call ░░░░░░░░ excuses I mean if ░░░░░░░░ was if it was ░░░░░░░░ to solve the issue ░░░░░░░░ affordability we would have ░░░░░░░░ it when I came ░░░░░░░░ office by most estimates ░░░░░░░░ were down about 120 ░░░░░░░░ units of affordability I ░░░░░░░░ we ve made great ░░░░░░░░ in addressing those challenges ░░░░░░░░ the least of which ░░░░░░░░ our announcement last December ░░░░░░░░ we were going to ░░░░░░░░ a billion dollars to ░░░░░░░░ new affordable projects to ░░░░░░░░ areas of the city ░░░░░░░░ you ve heard me ░░░░░░░░ this before to really ░░░░░░░░ some specific concrete strides ░░░░░░░░ break down the segregation ░░░░░░░░ has plagued our city ░░░░░░░░ far too long I ░░░░░░░░ you heard from many ░░░░░░░░ the members who actually ░░░░░░░░ about the project that ░░░░░░░░ was an extensive amount ░░░░░░░░ community engagement in the ░░░░░░░░ area with community members ░░░░░░░░ members of the oblah ░░░░░░░░ but also other residents ░░░░░░░░ that area to make ░░░░░░░░ that the development really ░░░░░░░░ what the community members ░░░░░░░░ that they needed and ░░░░░░░░ to me this is ░░░░░░░░ about automatic prerogative as ░░░░░░░░ members I m trying ░░░░░░░░ make it it s ░░░░░░░░ we have this vacant ░░░░░░░░ for which there was ░░░░░░░░ plan we have a ░░░░░░░░ investor who s not ░░░░░░░░ willing to invest building ░░░░░░░░ headquarters of the Chicago ░░░░░░░░ team keeping them in ░░░░░░░░ city which is important ░░░░░░░░ s also going to ░░░░░░░░ a range of opportunities ░░░░░░░░ junior soccer players getting ░░░░░░░░ kids involved and then ░░░░░░░░ heard about the various ░░░░░░░░ benefits that are going ░░░░░░░░ ignore to that community ░░░░░░░░ I jose monsuedo has ░░░░░░░░ very intentional about answering ░░░░░░░░ call for business people ░░░░░░░░ invest in areas of ░░░░░░░░ city that either have ░░░░░░░░ little to no investment ░░░░░░░░ have frankly been disinvested ░░░░░░░░ that s not the ░░░░░░░░ place where he s ░░░░░░░░ an investment we last ░░░░░░░░ um in Hong Kong ░░░░░░░░ at a development called ░░░░░░░░ terminal which is a ░░░░░░░░ of an old furniture ░░░░░░░░ we cut the ribbon ░░░░░░░░ the first tenet in ░░░░░░░░ in that development a ░░░░░░░░ computing company which is ░░░░░░░░ to I think really ░░░░░░░░ the world on fire ░░░░░░░░ what they re able ░░░░░░░░ do and taking advantage ░░░░░░░░ the federal government s ░░░░░░░░ uh in quantum computing ░░░░░░░░ in our city um ░░░░░░░░ believe that at 40 ░░░░░░░░ of every dollar in ░░░░░░░░ computing is invested here ░░░░░░░░ Chicago that s just ░░░░░░░░ example and why I ░░░░░░░░ that up is because ░░░░░░░░ mansueto and his company ░░░░░░░░ the anchor investors I ░░░░░░░░ t see a lot ░░░░░░░░ folks uh clamoring to ░░░░░░░░ in that particular area ░░░░░░░░ uh older women miss ░░░░░░░░ so there s a ░░░░░░░░ of that was said ░░░░░░░░ what I know of ░░░░░░░░ is he s a ░░░░░░░░ who is very thoughtful ░░░░░░░░ smart but also very ░░░░░░░░ to the city of ░░░░░░░░ and brings all of ░░░░░░░░ sensibilities in his experience ░░░░░░░░ in his commitment to ░░░░░░░░ investments that he makes ░░░░░░░░ really uplift areas of ░░░░░░░░ city that need economic ░░░░░░░░ so I m grateful ░░░░░░░░ Joe mansueto the head ░░░░░░░░ his real estate group ░░░░░░░░ the company for really ░░░░░░░░ being very focused on ░░░░░░░░ economic development in areas ░░░░░░░░ our city that need ░░░░░░░░ most alyssa welcome hi ░░░░░░░░ um I wanted to ░░░░░░░░ you about the proposed ░░░░░░░░ at navy pier why ░░░░░░░░ your administration opposed to ░░░░░░░░ well my recollection is ░░░░░░░░ we re in litigation ░░░░░░░░ that matter so I ░░░░░░░░ not going to comment ░░░░░░░░ it Aaron daily line ░░░░░░░░ um so kind of ░░░░░░░░ mariah s question alderman ░░░░░░░░ Martin proposed today that ░░░░░░░░ be chair of the ░░░░░░░░ committee in a measure ░░░░░░░░ was introduced replacing Michelle ░░░░░░░░ is that something that ░░░░░░░░ ll support and should ░░░░░░░░ just be left up ░░░░░░░░ aldermen as they can ░░░░░░░░ to pick their own ░░░░░░░░ well you know that ░░░░░░░░ s a process by ░░░░░░░░ we do that and ░░░░░░░░ process is that the ░░░░░░░░ makes the final picks ░░░░░░░░ so I don t ░░░░░░░░ any reason to break ░░░░░░░░ that long standing precedent ░░░░░░░░ as I said and ░░░░░░░░ that I have a ░░░░░░░░ sense of who s ░░░░░░░░ to be here and ░░░░░░░░ s not we ll ░░░░░░░░ decisions in short order ░░░░░░░░ tribby hi mayor is ░░░░░░░░ next and final step ░░░░░░░░ the Chicago fire deal ░░░░░░░░ get hud approval and ░░░░░░░░ you think the federal ░░░░░░░░ will sign off I ░░░░░░░░ t tell you as ░░░░░░░░ sit here today what ░░░░░░░░ next step is but ░░░░░░░░ hud has been consulted ░░░░░░░░ step of the way ░░░░░░░░ deal would not have ░░░░░░░░ forward with the cha ░░░░░░░░ hud hadn t been ░░░░░░░░ um and but I ░░░░░░░░ I I don t ░░░░░░░░ the particulars we can ░░░░░░░░ that to you as ░░░░░░░░ whether or not there ░░░░░░░░ a next step with ░░░░░░░░ to hud but I ░░░░░░░░ assure you that hud ░░░░░░░░ consulted from the very ░░░░░░░░ when this was first ░░░░░░░░ of as a potential ░░░░░░░░ marianne mbc I hope ░░░░░░░░ ll indulge me for ░░░░░░░░ one to the new ░░░░░░░░ and one for you ░░░░░░░░ right alderman if you ░░░░░░░░ go first I know ░░░░░░░░ live in Lincoln park ░░░░░░░░ is just a great ░░░░░░░░ but the neighborhood also ░░░░░░░░ seen an uptick in ░░░░░░░░ what can you do ░░░░░░░░ ease those residents fears ░░░░░░░░ you know I ve ░░░░░░░░ hearing this at the ░░░░░░░░ I ve been at ░░░░░░░░ doors for six weeks ░░░░░░░░ thing we re going ░░░░░░░░ do in the office ░░░░░░░░ take a look at ░░░░░░░░ the menu budget dollars ░░░░░░░░ wards menu budget dollars ░░░░░░░░ how those are spent ░░░░░░░░ think with the great ░░░░░░░░ staff we have we ░░░░░░░░ come to some creative ░░░░░░░░ to start working on ░░░░░░░░ quickly but this will ░░░░░░░░ an ongoing discussion both ░░░░░░░░ residents and with other ░░░░░░░░ and neighborhood groups in ░░░░░░░░ ward you know when ░░░░░░░░ TV people aren t ░░░░░░░░ to understand what menu ░░░░░░░░ means what could you ░░░░░░░░ a little more sure ░░░░░░░░ I you know I ░░░░░░░░ walking into it s ░░░░░░░░ in the year every ░░░░░░░░ gets a certain amount ░░░░░░░░ menu dollars for infrastructure ░░░░░░░░ thought is like other ░░░░░░░░ have used on the ░░░░░░░░ their menu dollars for ░░░░░░░░ safety cameras things things ░░░░░░░░ that that like we ░░░░░░░░ potentially use them the ░░░░░░░░ but I need to ░░░░░░░░ into it and at ░░░░░░░░ expertise of staff I ░░░░░░░░ yet to be up ░░░░░░░░ the office as aldermen ░░░░░░░░ we ve got a ░░░░░░░░ of discussions to be ░░░░░░░░ thank you thank you ░░░░░░░░ putting you on the ░░░░░░░░ for that and on ░░░░░░░░ same note mayor any ░░░░░░░░ to counter the McDonald ░░░░░░░░ CEO who says people ░░░░░░░░ afraid to come back ░░░░░░░░ the headquarters well I ░░░░░░░░ that what would have ░░░░░░░░ helpful is for the ░░░░░░░░ s CEO to educate ░░░░░░░░ um before he spoke ░░░░░░░░ ve had those some ░░░░░░░░ conversations with other members ░░░░░░░░ his leadership team I ░░░░░░░░ you saw that McDonald ░░░░░░░░ itself put out a ░░░░░░░░ page ad talking about ░░░░░░░░ full support of the ░░░░░░░░ of Chicago I m ░░░░░░░░ to look in on ░░░░░░░░ engagement and not look ░░░░░░░░ the rearview mirror today ░░░░░░░░ s an article that ░░░░░░░░ think is posted that ░░░░░░░░ a letter from the ░░░░░░░░ of world business Chicago ░░░░░░░░ lays out in exacting ░░░░░░░░ all the good news ░░░░░░░░ news about what s ░░░░░░░░ in our city so ░░░░░░░░ m going to focus ░░░░░░░░ those things and not ░░░░░░░░ comments of the CEO ░░░░░░░░ McDonald s greg pratt ░░░░░░░░ uh good afternoon mayor ░░░░░░░░ so um hang on ░░░░░░░░ got this written down ░░░░░░░░ I um so there ░░░░░░░░ competing uh proposals today ░░░░░░░░ revise all demanding salaries ░░░░░░░░ and you know there ░░░░░░░░ been a lot of ░░░░░░░░ about uh discussing how ░░░░░░░░ demanded raises are rolled ░░░░░░░░ do you think the ░░░░░░░░ should be changed and ░░░░░░░░ you think that the ░░░░░░░░ s salary should be ░░░░░░░░ well I haven t ░░░░░░░░ those specific proposals yet ░░░░░░░░ I want to have ░░░░░░░░ opportunity to to review ░░░░░░░░ there s always lots ░░░░░░░░ conversation mostly in the ░░░░░░░░ about what automatic salary ░░░░░░░░ be so we ll ░░░░░░░░ a look at those ░░░░░░░░ and see what makes ░░░░░░░░ on a going forward ░░░░░░░░ I have not raised ░░░░░░░░ issue I think there ░░░░░░░░ conversation around some of ░░░░░░░░ other city wide elected ░░░░░░░░ you re aware that ░░░░░░░░ mayor s compensation hasn ░░░░░░░░ been changed in I ░░░░░░░░ almost 20 years but ░░░░░░░░ s not really what ░░░░░░░░ m focused on I ░░░░░░░░ focused on making sure ░░░░░░░░ we do the work ░░░░░░░░ the people of the ░░░░░░░░ every single day column ░░░░░░░░ club there you go ░░░░░░░░ I m complete hi ░░░░░░░░ hi there how are ░░░░░░░░ I m ready to ░░░░░░░░ home and have some ░░░░░░░░ or lunch whatever who ░░░░░░░░ what time it is ░░░░░░░░ it s dinner time ░░░░░░░░ should my lunch will ░░░░░░░░ my dinner so anyway ░░░░░░░░ light of the delayed ░░░░░░░░ do you support the ░░░░░░░░ of private lot car ░░░░░░░░ to the entire city ░░░░░░░░ should it stay award ░░░░░░░░ ward basis yeah I ░░░░░░░░ actually surprised that that ░░░░░░░░ that got delayed there ░░░░░░░░ the reality is is ░░░░░░░░ in some areas of ░░░░░░░░ city this is a ░░░░░░░░ challenge that um vacant ░░░░░░░░ and abandoned vehicles are ░░░░░░░░ up on vacant lots ░░░░░░░░ of which are owned ░░░░░░░░ of which are not ░░░░░░░░ s a real issue ░░░░░░░░ we ve heard I ░░░░░░░░ extensive commentary by alderman ░░░░░░░░ who s in whose ░░░░░░░░ that this is a ░░░░░░░░ issue so I can ░░░░░░░░ say that this is ░░░░░░░░ a city wide problem ░░░░░░░░ I know it s ░░░░░░░░ real challenge in wards ░░░░░░░░ where there are a ░░░░░░░░ of vacant lots and ░░░░░░░░ think we have a ░░░░░░░░ to address that but ░░░░░░░░ it responsibly make sure ░░░░░░░░ we re giving proper ░░░░░░░░ uh to the landowners ░░░░░░░░ proper notice to the ░░░░░░░░ owners but in some ░░░░░░░░ of the city you ░░░░░░░░ travel and you see ░░░░░░░░ lots with you know ░░░░░░░░ 10 different vehicles on ░░░░░░░░ some of which feel ░░░░░░░░ they re rusting in ░░░░░░░░ and a real eyesore ░░░░░░░░ attract I think crime ░░░░░░░░ other other things people ░░░░░░░░ those wards want a ░░░░░░░░ quality of life they ░░░░░░░░ and really where also ░░░░░░░░ starts is the the ░░░░░░░░ spaces public spaces so ░░░░░░░░ is a significant issue ░░░░░░░░ and I m confident ░░░░░░░░ we ll be able ░░░░░░░░ move something forward thanks ░░░░░░░░ that s wrap everyone ░░░░░░░░ a great day thank you
