Charles Blow: Republicans Are a ‘Threat to Democracy’

O DONNELL You have ░░░░░░░░ what has been clear ░░░░░░░░ very long time The ░░░░░░░░ is the voters They ░░░░░░░░ the people who delivered ░░░░░░░░ Trump to the Electoral ░░░░░░░░ victory They are the ░░░░░░░░ who believe his lies ░░░░░░░░ are the people who ░░░░░░░░ gone beyond his lies ░░░░░░░░ wilder beliefs in the ░░░░░░░░ space that even Donald ░░░░░░░░ doesn t advocate But ░░░░░░░░ is a news convention ░░░░░░░░ I think it is ░░░░░░░░ the convention I think ░░░░░░░░ s built into the ░░░░░░░░ mindset of so many ░░░░░░░░ in the news business ░░░░░░░░ you must never even ░░░░░░░░ that the voters are ░░░░░░░░ problem It has to ░░░░░░░░ something else it can ░░░░░░░░ be them BLOW Absolutely ░░░░░░░░ I am the first ░░░░░░░░ say that propaganda is ░░░░░░░░ and misinformation is big ░░░░░░░░ they are real things ░░░░░░░░ they do lead some ░░░░░░░░ a stray But this ░░░░░░░░ not what is happening ░░░░░░░░ with conservatism in this ░░░░░░░░ and particularly in this ░░░░░░░░ Conservatism in this country ░░░░░░░░ always been against democracy ░░░░░░░░ never wanted full democracy ░░░░░░░░ always pushed against it ░░░░░░░░ never even had anything ░░░░░░░░ real democracy until 1870 ░░░░░░░░ the passage of the ░░░░░░░░ Amendment which finally gave ░░░░░░░░ men the right to ░░░░░░░░ but women in general ░░░░░░░░ didn t have the ░░░░░░░░ to vote That didn ░░░░░░░░ happen until 1920 with ░░░░░░░░ passage of the 19th ░░░░░░░░ right But by that ░░░░░░░░ Jim Crow was already ░░░░░░░░ and black people were ░░░░░░░░ disenfranchised in the American ░░░░░░░░ where most of them ░░░░░░░░ So you didn t ░░░░░░░░ something that approached democracy ░░░░░░░░ 1965 with the passage ░░░░░░░░ the Voting Rights Act ░░░░░░░░ years later the Supreme ░░░░░░░░ goes and guts that ░░░░░░░░ So all along conservatism ░░░░░░░░ wanted Americans electoral system ░░░░░░░░ be less than democratic ░░░░░░░░ we have now though ░░░░░░░░ the last 20 30 ░░░░░░░░ is people casting about ░░░░░░░░ for another vehicle that ░░░░░░░░ I can latch onto ░░░░░░░░ give my anti democratic ░░░░░░░░ And for a long ░░░░░░░░ they were latching onto ░░░░░░░░ who said You need ░░░░░░░░ be more moderate They ░░░░░░░░ latching onto the Reagans ░░░░░░░░ the Bushes But Donald ░░░░░░░░ comes along and says ░░░░░░░░ can actually do your ░░░░░░░░ democratic thing without having ░░░░░░░░ moderate that you can ░░░░░░░░ headfirst into it and ░░░░░░░░ your full self and ░░░░░░░░ say that you do ░░░░░░░░ want to be a ░░░░░░░░ and that is okay ░░░░░░░░ that is what we ░░░░░░░░ seeing now And right ░░░░░░░░ the conservative party is ░░░░░░░░ Republican Party and therefore ░░░░░░░░ have become the threat ░░░░░░░░ democracy I don t ░░░░░░░░ care if people are ░░░░░░░░ about it I don ░░░░░░░░ care if they think ░░░░░░░░ it is hyperbolic to ░░░░░░░░ that I don t ░░░░░░░░ if people say Well ░░░░░░░░ are pushing us toward ░░░░░░░░ War if you say ░░░░░░░░ the country is problematic ░░░░░░░░ they are You know ░░░░░░░░ you were answering on ░░░░░░░░ poll that you don ░░░░░░░░ believe that someone who ░░░░░░░░ the election actually did ░░░░░░░░ you don t believe ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump created a ░░░░░░░░ with the insurrection and ░░░░░░░░ have you you are ░░░░░░░░ problem If you are ░░░░░░░░ people who want to ░░░░░░░░ a legitimate election and ░░░░░░░░ actually saying that they ░░░░░░░░ basically saying that they ░░░░░░░░ not into democracy anymore ░░░░░░░░ you are the problem ░░░░░░░░ can t put that ░░░░░░░░ on somebody else You ░░░░░░░░ t say Oh I ░░░░░░░░ to Fox News I ░░░░░░░░ to QAnon It s ░░░░░░░░
